An early morning call.
Right under the exit of the airconditioning machine of a fancy restaurant lays a kitty. She cannot move, and only a small flicker of her tiny eyes covered in goo tells me that she is alive.
A massive upper respiratory infection has completely blocked her nasal passages. Barely any air reaches her lungs.
She is very weak. Terrified of me, but barely able to react and even less to run away, the kitty looks at me directly in the eye, and in her silent plea I can see gratitude.
As I reach to her, she instinctively curls in fetal position to let me carry her.
She is very light, under her beautiful calico coat and her dehydrated skin I can feel each and every bone in her tiny frame. There is no fat, there is no muscle mass.
There is barely any life left in this kitty.
Hope is all we have at this moment.
A race through rush hour in the city. We reach our vet that that with a quick sad glance at me confirms the gravity of the situation.
We weigh her. She is 380 grams. Light as feather.
I name her MONICA.
For the last 24 hours Monica has been in intensive care. In just 24 hours Monica has gone from 380 to 815 grams. Since connecting her to the machine that administers IV in tiny dosages, her weight has doubled. She had no more water left in her. I have never before seen a kitty in such a state of dehydration, weeks of scorching heat, no water and no food have reduced her to this state.
Preliminary tests she has no infectious viral diseases like FelV or FIP. A sigh of relief.
Monica has started to eat, and she does so with the ravenous fury of one that has experienced hunger and deprivation and has witnessed her own body consume itself until there is nothing else to consume.
Monica still cannot stand up. Under the watchful eyes of our vets and assisted by the best treatments afforded by modern medecine, Monica is starting to live again… one day at a time. This won’t be quick, but it will be worthy.
Please join us in our efforts, if you can, help us bring Monica back to life, she is an amazing little kitty that I’m sure one day will fill someone’s house with joy. But right now, she needs to fight.. Fight Monica, Fight.

After two days in intensive care and two more days in observation Monica has left the clinic!!!
In this time she has gone from 380 grms, totally dehydrated, skin and bones, to a much more adecuate 1,1 kgs. She still has quite a way to go, she has herpes virus and Feline Calicivirus so she needs to be isolated from the others for now.. but she’ll be fine…
Now we need to find her a very special home. Our conditions for adoption, as always:
1. Family MUST have another animal, dog or cat.
2. Monica will be an indoor cat. Outdoor only if supervised and not during the first six months after adoption
3. Monica will be fed a RAW diet: http://feline-nutrition.org/
4. Monica hates smoking as much as we do so please.. No-Smoking families
5. NO DECLAWING

Update: 1st September
It’s been a month since Monica’s last update… during the month of August she has continued regaining strength and feeling more and more comfortable at home. She is still very shy, but I have no doubt one day she will overcome her fears and go on to become someone’s loved soulmate.
She is beautiful…

UPDATE 9 September… 2 years later… 🙂
No words…
Monica stayed with me, as a foster. During these two years Monica became a truly spectacular kitty.
When I rescued her she was just skin and bones. Today she is absolutely spectacular. Monica remained shy… little by little she started approaching me but never as close as my other cats… I know she loves, me, as I love her, but we love each other from the distance.
I am still looking for the PERFECT HOME for Monica…
Will that home ever be found? Who knows… If you are reading this, and you would like to bring a part of me into your home, write to me.. My email: viktor@myletsadopt.com
Help us continue performing incredible rescues like Monica´s…
Please, if you can, donate to our rescue fund so that more and more animals like Monica can change their lives FOREVER..
