   What is the next step, operation/treatment or euthanisation? What is the prognosis..??

   My cat and dog are spayed/neutered. However I spayed my cat after 2 births and I found good homes for all her babies.

   Poor Lara, may be doing nothing invasive might be a better solution for her, and keep company and give comfort for the rest of her limited time..I am afraid she might not survive the surgeries .

4. female cats or dogs do not have to give birth before sterilization. This is a cruel cruel myth!
   Kittens can and should be spayed/neutered when they are over 3 lbs (roughly 1.5 kg), which with good care is at the age of about 10-12 weeks.
   Definitely under the age of 6 months, because guess what – your kittens are ready to have babies of their own.
   Momma cat can (and often will) go back into heat within 48 HOURS of giving birth. Which means if it is a free roaming cat, it can get pregnant again while still nursing a litter…and so on and so on.
   I once observed a guy who’s dog ran away and was at the shelter. He didn’t want to pay to have his dog neutered. He said he didn’t want a dog with no balls. The shelter wouldn’t release the dog to him w/o him signing the papers and he turned around and left his (beloved) dog there.
   Didn’t want no dog with no balls, so it can rott and die at the pound.
   This is sick, folks. We need to change the world and how people think. One neighbor, friend, family member at the time. Do it for Lara! Poor baby!

6. Misha is your response referring to my post about not sterilizing my pets. If so, how would you assume that I am believing the urban myth you are stating and did not sterilize my cat .for this reason?

   I did not sterilize my cat before giving birth, mainly because I wanted her to have a sex life for a couple of years since I think it is her natural birth right to have it. As simple as this, not because I believe that dogs and cats should give birth before sterilization. It is my personal choice, and I do not want to start an argument here about to do or not to do sterilization. I just felt like explaining my situation.

   Since I do live in the USA, and since there are not millions of stray cats roaming around here as there are in Turkey(damned shelters euthanising millions a year in the USA which I am against), I think my choice of not sterilizing my cat before her giving birth is none of anybody’s concern especially when I have the decency to find them great homes and in the homes they went all 5 kittens were sterilized and are living happily ever after.

   So your argument might be, “if you had sterilized your cat, these 5 kittens were never born and the people adopted them would have gone to shelter to pick “soon to be euthanised cats” if not adopted. And my response to that assumption would have been “NO”, cause the people adopted them were close friends, neighbors and relatives who were not likely to make another visit to the shelter. so case is closed.

   I am hoping your post is about giving general medical facts to enlighten the public and not a personal response to my post.

   None of my kittens are casualties, how did you come up with that assumption?

   2 of them are adopted by my neighbor, spayed and neutered, living their life indoors very spoiled Neutered/spayed and overweight.

   One of them is living with my best friend in Boston in a multi-cat home indoors(neutered).

   The other two are living with my brother-in-law in San Francisco(spayed/neutered). The oldest of my kittens are already 6 years old and are leading very healthy lives. Do the math and find out the casualty? So you having no doubt that one or more of my kittens will become a casualty and end up in shelter is irrelevant. Your assumptions are uncalled for, biased and prejudiced.

   So basically reproduction of 16.000 kittens(through generations) from a cat is already terminated in my case. How irresponsible of me!!?

   You are missing my point, I am not against sterilization. But that does not neccesarily mean that I will cut my pet’s sexual life short. In my case I feel that it was right to do, and I am 100%behind my decision, since all my kittens went to happy homes, living healthy.

   And you think that the people who adopted my kittens were gonna go to shelter and save 5 kittens waiting to be euthanised, let me clarify your doubt, NO they wouldn’t have gone. They adopted my kittens cause they were available within their reach. Although all are cat lovers none of them were looking to adopt kittens, they did adopt only because I offered them. If not I would have kept all of them anyway and for sure spayed and neutered all under that circumstances. Most of the animal lovers in US do not like to make a trip to shelter because it is a very sad experience to pick an animal knowing that other 100 will be euthanised soon. Very hard choice to make. It is a very traumatizing experience, most people cant take it. I wrote all these details in order to make you understand that 5 kittens waiting in shelters would not have been saved from euthanisation anyway just because of the fact these people adopted my kittens instead. Hopefully you understand my point.

   Under different circumstances it might not be the right decision, such as if I were to still live in Turkey and witness millions of strays roaming around and still not sterilizing my pet would have been very irresponsible.

   So here I am urging all the Turkish pet owners to sterilize their pets. Even that is not enough to control the stray population in Turkey, so each Turkish family who could afford should pick at least one stray cat or dog(especially dogs) and finance the sterilization and return the animal to its environment.

   Please spay/neuter, that’s the only way to control the pet/stray population in Turkey.

10. Cherie I wonder whether you have seen the sentence of Viktor stating he wants to end this discussion here. So instead of respecting his request you are writing a post that puts me in a position to give a response(since you are stating my name in it) therefore prolonging the subject.

    I don’t want to keep going about my choice and defending myself here. First of all I don’t feel a need for it, second I respect Viktor too much to keep going in a subject that he wishes to end.

    But for your info, I am well aware that there about 13 million cats/dogs euthanised by shelters in the US each year, because as an animal lover I would be an idiot not to know this. As you phrased it so well, it would have been obnoxious to think that US has no stray problem, and let me assure you that I am not as obnoxius as you think. If you had read my post carefully you would have seen that I have been talking about euthanisations in shelters. I personally trapped tons of ferral cats, and have them sterilized with the help of East Bay SPCA, Then helped them return to their colonies and I kept feeding them in their own surroundings. I also donate to SPCA’s on regular basis for sterilization of ferrel cats..

    So Cherie thanks for the enlightment, but there is not much you can teach me regarding this issue..But of course the post you wrote here is very informative for the others. Unfortunately since you mentioned my name I had to respond.

    So here is my request, I would like noone here to refer to me or to my post anymore so that I don’t end up answering them. On Viktor’s request I would rather prevent this “to or not to sterilize” issue going forever.

    My initial post was about the importance of spaying and neutering, and how there’s no need to breed an animal before doing so.
    You are the one who became very defensive and made this entire post about yourself.

    To respond to your trapping and neutering ‘tons of ferals’ in the East Bay: You must have worked with Fix Our Ferals. If not, I recommend you get in touch with them (and reality) and educated about an animal’s “sex life” (or lack of).
    As a previous poster said before. Cats don’t have a sex life. They breed because their hormones tell them to.
    In 16 years of rescue, and after fostering hundreds and hundreds of cats, kittens and dogs, I’ve seen cats die while giving birth, having still-borns, little runts too weak to take even their first breath – and you are talking about the mother cat had a good f*#% ? Preposterous!
    THAT’s what the posters are taking offense to.
    Your initial statement (from which you back peddled since) that the situation in the US isn’t as bad as in Turkey is equally ignorant.
    40 THOUSAND cats are being killed each year in my metro area! Roughly 200.000 have been euthanized in Northern California last year. That’s TWOHUNDRED THOUSAND!
    That does not count the ones that died of diseases like FIP, FIV, FeLV, were used for bait for dog fights or snake food, that doesn’t count the ones that were sold to research labs, that doesn’t count the ones that were dumped somewhere to survive on their own.
    Turkey is bad – REALLY bad, but don’t give people from outside the US the impression things are not so bad here. Things are horrible.
    The bottom line is to educate people and stop spreading myths about spay/neuter. That’s all this is about – not about Sujen!

    I couldn’t care less if you find me totally ignorant or my ideas and actions preposterous. Because the post is neither about me nor my personality, remember!!

    This link is not about sterilization only, it is about the events, haves or have nots that finally costed Lara her life. Not sterilizing is only one aspect of her complex medical situation . Everybody made her/his point, I don’t know why you dragging this subject forever.

    As I have mentioned above, since Viktor wanted to end the discussion about sterilization 5 posts ago and since I respect his decision, I won’t be responding anymore. Apparently nobody respects the requests of the administrator of this link. You can continue to discuss this subject among each other and enlighten the public about sterilization but I won’t be a part of it. This will be my last post.

    Bu arada ozellikle yurtdisindan yazanlara bir sozum olacak. Turkiye’deki duruma cok uzuluyorlar, uzulunmeyecek gibi degil ama kendi ulkelerinde kisirlastirma calismalarindan ote yaptiklari birsey yok. Zaten onu da kendileri cabalayip yapmiyorlar, vakiflar veya barinaklar ucuz veya bedava kisirlastirma hizmeti sunuyor bunlar da yararlaniyor ve feral kedileri yakalamaya yardim ediyorlar, yani cok fazla kisisel bir basari sayilmaz, sunulan bir olanagi kullaniyorlar. Yani diyorlar ki “TR’da hayvanlar heba oluyor, ah vah..”, ama onlarin Hayvan Haklari Yasasi bizimkinden beter, kanunlarinda hayvan itlaflari yasal. Ama bu ulkede(ABD) bir Allahin kulu cikip ta, belediye barinaklarina veya bu tur lokal yasalara karsi bir protesto duzenleyip, ne hakla bu kadar hayvani itlaf ediyorsunuz diye sorgulamiyor, bu kiyima bir son verin diyen yok..Goz ardinda olunca gonul katlaniyor. Bunu yapmadiklari gibi buraya cikip, “biliyor musun yuzbinlerce hayvan olduruluyor burada da” deyip, istatistik veriyor..Bilmiyor muyuz, peki sen napiyorsun bu cinayetler icin ,ondan haber ver.

    TR’da kurulsular bedava trap saglasalar, “hadi kedileri yakala da biz bedava kisirlastiralim sen alip kolonilerine geri koy” dese kim bu kadar basit bir girisimde bulunmaz ki…Bizdeki bir hayvani bile kurtarmak icin gosterilen caba, bunlarin binlerce hayvani kisirlastirmasi icin gosterdigi cabadan cok daha yuksek. Cunku bizde hem engeller cok, hem olanaklar kisitli ve hem de gercek hayvanseverler cok ozverili. Ayrica “Let’s Adopt” grubunun Turkiye ayaginda kurtarilan bircok kopek ve kedi var ya, onlarin ulkesinde hicbir cabaya gerek gorulmeden euthanise edilmisti, cunku o ulkeler saglikli hayvanlari, adopt edilmediginde genc, bebek ayirmadan itlaf eden ulkeler degil ki boyle yasamasi bile mucize hayvanlar icin bu kadar yatirim yapsinlar.

    Boyle yurtdisindan bedava kahramanlik yapip, haricten gazel okuyanlara hic tahammulum yok. Igneyi biraz da kendilerine batirsinlar..Bana burada akil vereceklerine, dunyaya 5 yavru kedi katmisim diye (hepsine mutlu yuvalar bulmusum onemli degil) cahillikle, ne yaptigini bilmezlikle, bilincsizlikle itham edeceklerine , ben derim ki siz ne yapiyorsunuz yilda 13 milyon hayvanin devletiniz eliyle itlaf edildigini bile bile. Kendi ulklerinde bu kiyimlara goz yuman kisilerden
    icazet alacak halim yok.

    Bunlari neden ingilizce yazmadiniz derseniz, birincisi sirf onlar anlasin diye rahatac kullandigim anadilimden odun verecek degilim, ikincisi de onlari muhatab kabul etmiyorum..Cunku ben onyargili tiplere kendimi savunmaktan biktim. Yapacak daha onemli isler var.
