I wasn’t there to witness it, but those that were tell me it was one of the most repugnant things they’ve ever seen.
A couple arrives to the clinic with a cat in a box. They ask for the head vet, they tell him they’ve found a cat on the road. The cat seems to have a broken leg and she clearly in pain, so they would want to end the pain by, in their words, putting the cat out of their misery and sending him to the rainbow bridge where all dogs and cats are happy and play fetch forever with the angels.
Our vet stared at the couple and asked them to please give him a chance to figure out what’s wrong with the cat as maybe it’s just pain from an impact and doesn’t need a major surgery.
Xrays are performed and they show two very clear situations…

1. Lady Jane has a very nasty fracture, that requires major surgery and the use of titanium plates to hold the bone together.

and

2. Lady Jane is VERY pregnant with what will no doubt three incredibly cute kittens. You can see it in the Xray. It’s so clear you can practically see their faces. She’s about to deliver. Any minute now.

When the couple saw the Xrays they repeated the same instructions. Send to the rainbow bridge.

At that point the vet made a call and asked for our help… What should we do? If we decided to save the cat we have two possible options, the first would be to abort the kitties and shortly afterwards to operate Lady Jane’s leg… The second option would be to let Lady Jane have her babies and a few days later, once she has started breast feeding the kitties and everything is going well to quickly operate her, fix her leg and let her continue feeding the babies right after she wakes up.

What would you have chosen?

We are a rescue group. We are No-Kill… this was a no-brainer and a clear choice. We choose to save EVERYBODY, Lady Jane, the kitties, we even saved the vet and his conscience, so now he can do his life saving job, not follow the instructions of a despicable character trying to save a buck at the expense of not one but 4 deaths!!!!

Lady Jane is about to have the babies.. it should be happening either this evening or tomorrow, we don’t know yet, but they are due anytime… Shortly after the babies are Β born we’ll have to fix her leg. Operations like these are always delicate, but in this case even more so as we know that if we lost her we would be putting the life of the kitties in jeopardy…

Please, if you can, HELP US SAVE LADY JANE AND HER BABIES… With your help we won’t be saving one, but four lives this time…

*As always, after treatment any funds left over will be used for the treatment of all our other animals under our care.

Many many thanks!!!!

Update 12 January…

Magic has happened… Lady Jane is now a mother..

We are going to wait a couple of days until we operate her broken leg, its a difficult balance, on one side we have two little kitties that need her attention, on the other one we have a terrible bone fracture that needs to be fixed and every day that passes it becomes more difficult.

We have scheduled the operation for Monday… in the meantime let’s enjoy the miracle of love…

Lady Jane’s operation will take place on Monday.. please, if you can, help us making this operation possible.. we have saved her babies, now we must make sure she doesn’t spend the rest of her life limping! πŸ™

*As always, after treatment any funds left over will be used for the treatment of all our other animals under our care.

Many many thanks!!!!

I cry everytime I read a story and see a video invoving sad cases etc. You really have passion for your job Dr. Thanx for giving so unconditionally to the voiceless

I suppose that beautiful cat belonged to the couple – they found out that she’s pregnant and wanted to get rid of her instead of waiting for the kitties to be born and to give up for adoption. Whether the broken leg was made on purpose or not, I don’t dare to think about but she’s just too healthy-looking to have been an abandoned cat living on the streets. However, although I’d gladly like to support every kitty, I just donated to Kola but I believe she’ll be fine thanks to the help done by others and you.

  11. I love her so much I would love to adopt her,!! But sadly I just got a kitten and I would not beable to adopt her

  12. Was one of the kittens stillborn, or died shortly after birth, or was the x-ray wrong? Thank you for saving both Lady Jane and the kittens, as I know many organizations would not have given them a chance.
