The email I received from Jordan was truly desperate.
It told me about Smokey, a kitty, that after being run over by a car that broke her hip had been left with a limping leg and unable to control her bodily functions. For months Smokey had been living inside a metallic cage at a vet’s office. Barely any human interaction, with her reflection on the metal cage as sole company and no chance of ever getting out.

As usual in those cases, unable to find a home for her and without any other alternative the email told me that I was their last resort, that unless we could figure out a way out for Smokey, she would be euthanized.

I asked for an X-ray and some pictures.

I saw the state of her body, the dilated anus that prolapses whenever she poos. But above all, I kept on looking at her face, a beautiful face of delicate features expressing both sadness and fear in a way only a cat can. That worried look…

– If only knew how close you have been from death Smokey, if you only knew… but don’t worry… well bring back a smile to your face little baby.

Consultations with our vets in Europe confirmed the diagnosis, Cauda Equina Syndrome, a paralyzing condition affecting the nerves in the lower spinal cord. Treatable, but only through surgery, and time is of the essence. Cauda Equina it’s considered a medical emergency. With every passing day her recuperation is going to be more and more difficult.

What followed next was a bureaucratic nightmare, with everyone pulling Smokey onto different directions, rescuers, bureaucrats, local vets… I never thought diplomacy would have to be used in a cat’s rescue. Thank god, in the end, cooler heads prevailed.

Everything is ready now. On Wednesday the 9th Smokey and her rescuer are due to leave Jordan and fly to Munich, Germany, to be operated of Cauda Equina. After the delicate procedure we will find her a home there, her ordeal will be nothing but a distant memory.

What is the alternative for Smokey in Jordan? None. Death. So once again we are left with an extremely simple choice. We either bring everyone’s resources together to help poor little Smokey or we look away and she dies in Jordan.

A very easy choice don’t you think? A non-choice really…

Let’s save Smokey, let’s change her life, let’s do what we do best…

Please, if you can, contribute to Smokey’s Flight+Surgery today. The flight is this Wednesday, and as usual, we practically have run out of time…

*As always, funds left over after treating Smokey will be used to save other animals under our care.

UPDATE: January 24…

The new life of Smokey 🙂

Smokey is one of the hundreds of animals we rescue every year, daring rescues, each one of them with its own set of medical and logistical difficulties, and at times, like in the case of Smokey, BOTH!

Valium is psychotropic medicine. People can buy these drugs with a prescription from a doctor. Such https://www.therapyheals.ca/valium-10mg/ medicine affects the body, so you should not take it without consult by a doctor or exceed the prescribed dose.

These rescues can only take place thanks to the support of our community, so please, if you can, support our fund and Donate on Smokey’s behalf so that we can continue changing lives, both animal and human, forever…

Many thanks!

Viktor

  1. Is there no money anymore ??? You get 35000 $ for Tidus, is all the money away??

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

No.. not at all… but that doesn’t mean we must spend the reserves on a string of rescues without making sure that safety net is not eroded. Smokey is rescued and she will be operated no matter what, but only an idiot, or someone with zero understanding of how to handle the financial aspects of any organization would use all the safety net of the group without raising funds to make sure that net is not eroded in a couple of weeks. I’m sure you understand, or maybe you don’t… who knows. :-). Our community and our donors do, that’s what matter to us..

  2. Kat Jones says:

It is just a matter of bookkeeping… If you use all the money on 1 animal how are you going to be able to take care of the next injured furbaby??? I totally understand…

  3. Amy Morris says:

Great response Viktor! That makes perfect sense 🙂

  4. Hi! My sister always watch your videos and shares your post in FB. I’ve known you through her. I admire your efforts in saving the lives of those little creatures God has created. I admire your love and passion to this kind of job. If only I’m rich, I’ll surely help but I’m not. I can’t even support my own medical needs but who knows? Maybe someday.. I hope for all the best to come in your journey in saving more lives.

  5. Hi Viktor 🙂 I red her story, and also other wonderful rescues! It is amazing work you do! I would like to help all the tiny suffering living souls on earth… You gave me hope and faith to human race…

But still, there is too much pain and abuse and violence against animals and it just makes me so sad and hopeless as much it’s really hurts physically.

I have tried my best to help homeless/injured animals but I have very small resources to do more. And that makes me suffer for those I can not help.

But thank god you are the angel and the lightworker here for all creatures! Lots of love and strength to carry on! And all my love to all animals in there! Everyone deserves to live <3

  6. what you do is beautiful, god is smiling on you.

  7. Well said Viktor.

Even though this is not a Business as such, if it is not treated as one it would not work.

  8. As always an awesome ending!!!

  9. Lia Kelly says:

Just to make things clear, the “Lia” above is not me, Lia Kelly. I don’t know if someone was trying to masquerade as me or what, but I’m Lia Kelly, a supporter of this organization, not that other person who was questioning the organization’s financial situation.

    1. Thank you (the real) Lia Kelly. Trolls will be trolls and have no boundaries. I’m sorry they tried dragging you into their mess. Thank you and we appreciate the support.

  10. Wonderful to see a happy Smokey and she is gorgeous. Well done everyone.
