Her name is Alev Kan, and she is the owner of Pati Veteriner Kliniği, a veterinary practice in Marmaris, Turkey. Today she is being exposed as probably the worst veterinarian in the world.
This is the story of how an ignorant, callous, cruel, merciless and inept veterinarian completely butchered and destroyed the life of a dog that arrived to her in search for help, and instead was handed over a handicap for life.
Ayten Hope‘s case has shocked the world. She was shot by her owner when she was trying to escape the massacre that killed her siblings. She laid there, by the side of the river, bleeding herself to death in total agony.
In that state she was found by someone that did, what she thought was the right thing… she took Ayten Hope to the vet…
What happened in that veterinary clinic defies belief.
Vets all over the world have been shown the Xrays and seen the condition of Ayten Hope today. Two bullets on the legs, this was a bad injury, but it could have been fixed with relative ease. Here is a video of how to perform this procedure in a human femur.
The application of the metal plates and nails that were to sustain and allow the correct rebuilding of the bone after the operation is completely wrong. The Intramedullary nail receives this name because it is placed INSIDE the bone, sustaining it and reinforcing it from within.
But then this veterinarian did the most amazing thing… she placed the nail OUTSIDE the bone, subcutaneously !!
The bones are totally infected due to the incorrect procedure. Both bone and muscle are affected. The pain Ayten Hope has lived in, for months, must have been totally unbearable. This was animal experimentation… and after the experiments, the torture and the starvation ended, Ayten was dumped at the pound like a broken toy!
Veterinarians around the world are horrified. They can’t begin to understand how someone can botch such a surgery.
I have seen a vet cover her mouth with her hands whilst her eyes opened like plates. They describe the case as horrific, embarrassing and atrocious. Some went as far as saying that there is no way Alev Kan didn’t know what she was doing. Others suggested she may have purchased her licence or acquired through means I’m unable to print here. They all concur her license should be revoked at once.
Each and every one of them has suggested us to report this to the Veterinary Association for investigation. Sadly, we know from previous experience the Veterinary Association is not an effective organization and it’s totally useless in such cases. Usually they will do their best to cover up such cases of malpractice. In all my years of activism in Turkey I have never heard of the Veterinary Association disciplining a member for malpractice.
Volunteers in Marmaris are considering taking Alev Kan to court... but this process is long and slow… by the time Ayten Hope receives justice she may even have died of old age.

Totally disgusted at this so-called “proffesional”, and the poor little dog, OMG!!! i can’t even begin to imagine the horrors and pain Ayten Hope had to endure. This evil commited against a loving defenceless animal makes my blood boil!!! Further insult is that no action will be taken against Alev Kan, no justice for Ayten Hope. At the very least i can only hope Alev Kan will be struck off from any further practice with animals but as that is unlikely to happen, each and every pet owner should avoid her clinic like the plague, prayers and good wishes go to Ayten Hope xx

I am sickened by this story. This vet needs serious punishment because she is sick/evil. I hope there is justice for this poor dog, Ayten Hope. I hope she will heal and have a very happy life. Please keep us posted of her recovery, thank you for the good that you every day for animals

I might have swallowed the fact that she is incompetent, but to leave the dog like this and then throw it in the pound!! What the hell! any semi decent person, who made such a mistake should have accepted the responsibility for his/her mistake and seeked other professionals for help. She should have tried with all her might to save Ayten,,, seeking other vets council. Shame Shame..

I am horrified beyond words at what has happened to thıs poor dog, more so as her husband, then my frıend told me about the dog they had supposedly rescued and saved and supposedly wanted to keep but couldnt because they went to Istanbul ın the wınter, so ı was asked ıf ı would foster her over the wınter, ı readily agreed, even sayıng ı dıdnt want payıng ı just wanted to help them and the dog, they even offered to pay me, but ı saıd no, just asked them to gıve a donatıon to anımal welfare as they saw fıt…. only to get up one day to see thıs horrıfıc story and quıckly ı worked out ıt was the poor dog that 2 months earlıer ı had been asked to foster, ıt haunts me, and ı hope she rots ın hell and never has the chance to do thıs to another poor defenceless anımal who put her trust ın thıs butcher x

everyone pls pls share this! i am Turkish, i know that no authority will give her any legal punishment. chances are her licence will not be revoked. There’s no way we can give Ayten Hope back her childhood but we can give her a happy future. if we share hard enough, we can prevent other animals’ lives by exposing this so called vet. we can save lives just by sharing this!
I think in answer to the above question ‘Is this the worst vet in te world?’ I would most definately say YES!!!…not only the most incompetant but the most heartless and greedy too. She has a string of alledged incompetant cases that are flooding in to Marmaris Animal Welfare site from many local people. What she did to Ayten is totally the worst by any means. Before she took down her FB page I was able to look at both her personal one and her clinic one. As far as the clinic one..there was not an animal picture in sight! The only picture was of the head of a dog (her own) poking over the top of a wall. This evil woman was breeding her Mastiff and advertising the puppies for sale for 500 dollars each, she had 10 of them. This I seem to recall was in 2010 but I’m not 100% sure of the year. If that is not horrific enough I have later found out from a fellow shelter volunteer who vaguely new of her activities that 9 of the puppies died!!!!????? AND if that isn’t bad enough, the remaining one ended up in the shelter!!!!!! This woman is SICK and HEARTLESS and needs to be out of the profession FOREVER she needs to be made accountable for her actions and if possible needs to compensate our lovely baby Ayten Hope. Let’s join together and ‘GET HER BIGTIME!!’.
I hope she will never ever be able to (mis)treat another animal. Vets that care more about money than the animals should really find another job and be ashamed of themselves. This story is more than horrible. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a happy ending for the dog and the opposite for the person/people involved in this cruel act of torture to an innocent animal.
Good and I am glad she will get help. You are doing a great thing here. If you ever need any advice or help please let me know. I am a dog trainer and I was taught by Turid Rugaas so it is all soft methods. I have been working with dogs like this and training them to trust people again when I was living in Sweden. If there is anything I can do please let me know. I don’t have the possibility to adopt a dog now unfortunately but hopefully one day.

I run a TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN project for cats in Marmaris. Most of them are done at the munıcıpalıty and the after care ıs done by me.
Alev Kan Baltacıgil offered to help 2 years ago and I was grateful. The cats ı took for neuterıng were done for free. Mahayko (Marmarıs anımal protectıon socıety) gave Alev the medıcıne and she dıdnt charge for doing the operations. So far so good.
After she had done about 200 cats ı started gettıng feedbacks from people caring for the cats. Since then, about 20 of them have been reported to have kittens.
When I heard of the first cats I confronted Alev myself and asked how this could have happened. She was very surprised and had no idea how this was possible. She had a few theories (like maybe answering the phone while operating and then forgetting to remove the second ovary etc) but she wasnt sure. There wasnt much I could do except try to catch the cat again for a second operatıon. I kept good contact with her but was starting to boil inside as the number was getting higher.
After a while I started hearing things. Quite soon I found out that I was to blame for all of these cats having babies again.
To save themselves Alev and her technician Akif started a rumour about me brıngıng in owned cats and chargıng the owners. The money I then kept for myself accordıng to thıs scenarıo. What they dont get is that their ’excuse’ is worse than their mistakes. Here it comes: To teach me a lesson they decided to open the cat up, close it without operating, eartip it and hand ıt back to me. They then said to people that me knowing the cats had babies was proof that they really had owners. How on earth would ı otherwıse know about ıt..
What they forget is that to run this project I am organısed and have help from people with feeding points and ‘watchers’ that tell me if any newcomers (unneutered cats) arrive to their area.. Thats how ı knew about them. And ı thınk ıf they wanted to teach me a lesson they could just have cut me open and close me up.. The cats were not to blame ın thıs case, where they? They should have hurt me and not them. Another way to handle it would have been to confront me wıth her so called witnesses that said I took money. Or maybe telling the chairwoman of MAHAYKO- she who paid for the medicine. Cutting and hurting an animal is not the ethical way of dealing with this.
I suspected that her assistant technician had been operating on quite a few of the cats as he was very very eager to do so. He always said Alev never let him operate. I even caught him in the act of operating a heavily pregnant cat one nıght when ı came to the clınıc. Alev was out of town. At that time I found ıt hard to belıeve that Alev actually screwed up durıng so many operations and thought maybe Akif did them. But after Ayten I understand it is possible..
I also know that the ‘opening up just to close them back excuse’ is a lie because the few cats ı have been able to catch a second tıme I have taken to other vets. Some have even been photographed during the operations. The vets said the previous operations were a joke, not possibly done by someone professional.
Since I didnt have any proof of the cats being done at her clinic I could never take legal action. I am sorry for Ayten but happy that Alev will finally get her punishment. I have waited patiently for 1.5 years for karma…
Well said Yasemin! Us animal lovers in Marmaris, Turkey, will do everything we can to close this vet down. The official route is being covered but these things take a long time & don’t always bear results ( as Aysegul pointed out ) Any advice on what further action we can take?

I was recently in Turkey,Fethiye, when a young dog got run over we went to help the Turkish who hit him rang a vet, the Vehicle that arrived had En Pati and a tel number which we wrote down. Thinking they would help him, we asked them to let us know how he is. Searching when back in England for information I came across Animal Aid Fethiye, who had the dog, they said he was found a few days later wondering the streets with a bandage and a few stitches by the so called vet, I was disgusted they had done this when we would of taken care of him if they had contacted us. Thanks to the other holiday makers and especially Animal Aid Fethiye he is recovering.
These people, I don’t think are VET’s at all, I really do not think they have any training, or care about any animal, I hope all these so called vets pay for what they have done, or do to vulnerable animals, they sicken me and they have to be very sick to do this.

Why isn’t it mandatory for vets to have any sort of public social networking? Wouldn’t you want an eye on your loved pet if you handed your animal over to some stranger to who asks for money? The background checks needs to include legitimate complaints! There has to be a stone kind of zero tolerance rule when it comes to animals and their very vulnerable owners!

I know this woman and her husband, I stayed many years at Orkide Hotel which his father owns. I’m wondering if all his regular guests know about this, they as a couple are well liked and respected. The evil Alev is often at the hotel relaxing after a hard days butchering!! I’m doing what I can to spread the word, she should not get away with this!!
I wonder if this is the vet that works so closely with Marmaris dog pound. It seems dogs aren’t looked after and have died shortly after leaving the pound…..
