Every day Let’s Adopt! receives no less than twenty letter from golden retrievers owners in Istanbul wanting to get rid of their dogs.
They give us a wide range of amazing reasons, here are some of them
1. I bought a golden but he is not happy in the balcony alone so I must give him away.
2. I bought a golden but dog eats a lot.
3. I bought golden but he wants to have sex all the time.
4. I bought a golden but my wife doesn’t like to clean his hair.
5. I bought golden but now he is old so I want new puppy.
Goldens are beautiful animals, everyone wants one. For reasons I don’t understand people in Turkey associate them with hig-society and status. The opposite is true. Hundreds of goldens are sold daily to completely inadequate families that get rid of them after a while. Either that or the animal runs away because he is not neutered.
I could rant for hours about the goldens of Istanbul but my rant wouldn’t be about them, it would be about their owners, people who get them for their supposed beauty and get rid of them with the same ease as they acquire them.
So this is Rusty‘s story… bought in a pet-shop, had a good life, its owners loved him, but now they are moving to an apartment and all that love doesn’t matter. Either Let’s Adopt! finds Rusty a home or he will be dumped at a shelter.
We need to find him a foster/final home, need a place to put him whilst we find him the perfect family. I could find a place for him in Istanbul in 5 mins, but chances are the family will dump him again in a few years. I find finding homes for Goldens is much more difficult that finding a home for a three legged dog. Everyone wants them but most people are inadequate so the screening process becomes unbearable to handle.
Conditions for adoption:
1. Rusty’s family will have AT LEAST one dog, preferably a rescued dog.
2. Rusty will live INSIDE the home, not in the garden.
3. Rusty will be fed a raw diet (www.rawfed.com).
Rusty will be adopted internationally if no home is found in Istanbul.

i hope someone loves him
with all the love they have to give
that the rest of experiences
be “golden” for
as long as he lives
animals are not fodder for the
garbage can
they are gifts for the creator
to who we should give
the best that we can
what a sad situation.! still never will understand people…If I wouldn’t have just gotten another puppy I would take him in a minute. He is beautiful.I already have 2 rescues and in this complex, that’s all you are allowed, and I would never get rid of the 2 I have, for any reason.poor baby…..I sure hope you find him a loving forever home.

There is a one-year old female (spayed) golden retriever about to be thrown out of her home in Adana. She is very shy. If anybody knows someone who could adopt her in the Çukurova area please let me know.
Dear Victor,
I personnaly would like to eliminate one of the “AMAZING” excuses. I am seriously willing to give one of those special shredding combs if anyone comes up with the 4th excuse you mentioned.
Deal… 🙂
Again, Rusty is more than welcome to come to the States and stay with us as long as he does well with other animals. We have been looking to enlarge our pack and an older dog would bring balance.
Paula & Viktor: My daughter Derin is flying from Turkey to Washington Dulles on August 20 (Viktor I sent you the details a few weeks ago). She can take Rusty with her if someone is willing to pick him up at Dulles.
