Dragan Djilas

Mayor of Belgrade

cc. Susan Michaels Founder, Pasado’s Safe Haven

Paris, 18 April 2010

Dear Mayor Djilas,

My name is Viktor Larkhill. I’m the Founder of Let’s Adopt!, one of the world’s largest animal rescue networks.

About a week ago we were made aware of Mila’s plea. Mila was found lying under a car in Belgrade with her four limbs amputated.

We have discussed Mila’s condition with some of the world’s leading prosthetic surgeons, both in Europe and in the United States. It is clear to all that world-class treatment will be necessary for Mila to recover mobility and have a minimum quality of life.

The closest alternative would have been Germany; unfortunately this would be too complicated due to the lengthy application process and necessary permissions for Mila to enter the EU.

We believe that Mila’s best possible chance has been offered by our friends at Pasado’s Safe Haven (www.pasadosafehaven.org). The internationally renowned American charity has offered to receive Mila in their premises and to finance the entire cost of the necessary treatment.

We know you were personally moved by Mila’s tragedy and that you kindly offered to sponsor her treatment. Your action sets an example of compassion to be followed by all Mayors around the world and is applauded by the international community.

With all of this in mind, we would kindly request your assistance and cooperation in securing the safe transfer of Mila to Pasado’s facilities in the United States.

Yours sincerely,

Viktor Larkhill

Founder, Let’s Adopt!

  7. Mila’s story is so incredible thus far. I am so very curious to know what exactly they will do for her?!?! Is it possible to follow her story like we did with Coco and the Veterinary program in Germany? I mean if they could have someone filming her progress? Mila is in my prayers everyday. Such a beautiful girl…

  8. Well done Viktor.. Please keep us all updated on this .
    I will share everywhere
    Thank you

  9. this story is so sad & never could understand why ppl can be so cruel!! How could u ever do this to a animal! You wouldnt do this to a child why a helpless animal!! So glad that their are ppl like me that would do anythin 4 a child n a animal!! Our leaders in ANY STATE or Country should look at this story & understand that their is a desprete cry 4 help & funding that are needed to help animals!! so sad but so glad that a bad startings can have a GREAT FINISH!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Viktor, a. for setting the wheels in motion once again, and b…..for your undying love of helping the helpless…you have the power to make people listen and act!!! You are in my heart always for all you do. God bless you xxx

  16. Where there is hope miracles can happen!

  17. I am so relieved that this tragic story had a happy ending. Whoever did this needs to suffer the same!! They are not human!! Thank you for your good heart and compassion and for being there for animals in need!

  18. Words escape me….. Mila’s sweet and innocent face is enough to make me cry about her tragic circumstances. For whatever reason she arrived at this horrible point, no living being deserves this kind of pain and suffering. Luckily, she has one of the world’s best animal warriors on her side and with the knowledge of that, I rest a little easier in hope of a good outcome for her. Keep up the amazing work Viktor.

  19. Patti Bahen says:

Thanks for sharing this story Viktor! It is truly a great gift for Mila! Who did this and why? I just don’t understand. As an American police officer for nearly 25 years, I have seen nearly every atrocity man can inflict upon man, and have rescued 3 dogs who were also victims. (Yes, they live IN my house, sleep IN my bed…well, it’s mostly theirs, as they outweigh me…and have many playmates as neighbors. Through your website, however, I have learned of the unimaginible horrors unflicted upon animals, things that I could not, in my wildest imagination, have imagined! Please keep us informed of her progress. And where in my country is this wonderful facility that is willing to take on her care?

You and your troops are heroes to me! My friene Ece, in Turkey, introduced me to your site, and has taught me much about the terrors so many animals face there. Thank God that they have people like you.

I just recently heard about mila and my heart goes out to her, i see that many people have offerd to help some alot closer than i. I would like to let everyone out there helping Mila know that even though iam far away and a very small rescue i will invite her into my home were we can grow old together. If there is a is chance that she can find a terriffic loving forever home there i certainlly will understand my goal on her behalf is to make sure she is given love every day of her life and the best medical care she can receive so with that being said, please keep me posted on her progress and if i can provide her with a safe loving home please email me or phone me at 318-364-7035 . My prayers are with Mila and those who are working so hard to save her.

  21. Thank you for your care!

  22. Doris Ward says:

Thank you so very much Victor, please keep me imformed if i can help in any way

  23. Thank you very much, but I think it would be best if she stayed in Serbia, after operation. There are a lot of people here that are more then willing to take care of her [a groups on Facebook that were made for her support have 300,000 people], and since this terror was made on her here, I believe we have moral obligation to do this.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

I see your point Marko… but things are as they are and I don’t think Serbia can offer the world class veterinary medecine needed right now.
Also, think about this…Mila is going to live for another 15 years or so. She is now living through her 15 minutes of fame. She has 15 very long years ahead of her.
Do you think those 300.000 people will be around to take care of her after the media buzz has vanished?
We are thinking long term… those using Mila as political pawn, circus freak, will not be there in a few weeks time.
We have seen this in other cases internationally.

  24. Nina Davies says:

Thank you Viktor, a no nonsense, straight to the point letter.

  25. Thank you so much, Viktor.

  26. LEJUEZ Vincent says:

it’s a good idea to write this letter, this poor dog diserves more consideration….
I hope this man will be judged loudly…

  27. lynda chabane says:

Any further updates on her please Viktor? x
