Gonca and Sarap
Gonca and Sarap

Baby of mine,
Never leave my dreams…
Don’t let me forget your smell.
Always sleep on my right at nights, never leave me alone.
Never let anyone else kiss your mommy, don’t allow them, tell them off.
If you don’t, who can protect me?
With this tiny body of yours you have given me the world.
You made me a mother.
I promise you my baby, I will never kiss anyone like that again.
Don’t look back.
Let me borrow your courage when you leave
So that I can stand being without you.
So that I can be as strong as you.
My baby, you have given me the world.
And I, I couldn’t provide you with a world to live in, forgive me.
Don’t let your bite marks on my hand heal.
Don’t let your perfect smell leave my nose.
Wherever you go, dress up tight, don’t get cold.
Take your jumper with you. How it suited my son…
Let your collar with its bell stay with me.
Let its jingle echo in my room.
I will not wipe off your paw marks off the floors.
Your basket will remain by the window.
Your room will always be your room.
Wherever your little paws stepped your voice remains my baby.
You never made me regret.
Despite being so tired, you didn’t leave me.
Was I good enough for you my beautiful beloved?
I will sing you songs, calling you all night mommy’s mouse.
And a 100 kisses on the cheek.
I told you mommy won’t leave you and she won’t my baby.
Where you go, kiss kittens again, reach them with your milky paws.
Every meal time may you have your favourite cheese to eat.
And mandarins…
Wait for mommy at every ring of the doorbell.
Through that door I will come back to you one day.
And I will love you, without I even take my shoes off.
I love you so much my tiny mouse, my life.
Don’t leave my dreams.
Don’t leave me without you…

You have seen the green of grass only through the window.
They are not always the same color.
Neither is the sky like this every season.
Sometimes it snows in this city.
So white.
You wouldn’t know, you haven’t seen.
I had tens of stories to tell you, they are not finished.
We had such little time, nothing like enough.
I kissed you, smelled you, then I let you go.
And still, it doesn’t feel right.

My lamb…
In the emptiness you have left behind, I am breathless.
I promise you
I will always love you.
I kiss you you on your umbrella ears.

Your mother.

  4. I had to read this again. I know too, as most do, how hard it is to pick up a chewed toy and toss it away, because it holds the teeth marks of a beloved pet. Or how hard it is to vacuum up that wisp of fur, for it fell from the beloved animal. It is the fragility in permanence, and it is difficult to sweep away into tomorrow….It is so hard to lose a friend………….Jac
