Lamborie & Black Jack

Meet Lamborie — owner surrender and gas chamber survivor.

‘Owner surrender’ being just a euphemism for the ultimate betrayal a person can do to a loyal companion.  It simply means that somebody took his unsuspecting  pets — the sweet brothers Lamborie and Black Jack, together with their lovely dog, whose name we will never know — to a kill shelter in North Carolina.

Lamborie

As fate would have it the story reached us just in time to allow us to get the kitties out. Their third pal, the faithful dog, had been gassed and was already dead before we could help. After the frantic rescue, Lamborie and Black Jack were placed in foster homes, with plans being made for adoption.

On Saturday, Lamborie’s life took a sudden turn back towards terrible danger, as he was admitted to IVG Metro West veterinary clinic in critical condition with what was originally thought to be a simple urinary tract infection the week before. It had manifested with blood in the urine & frequent running to the litter box. Urinalysis returned a clean urine sample, no crystals or rods, which would have indicated the presence of bacteria. The vets continued with a bladder xray and discovered thickening of the lower part — a possible inflammation which could account for the the symptoms Lamborie was displaying.

Relieved that there was no infection, the vet thought kitty was on the mend.

But on Saturday Lamborie relapsed, became visibly distressed, attempting repeatedly to pee as he was standing but unable to pass any urine, crying as he strained.

At that moment we knew something was terribly wrong.

Lamborie was rushed to the ICU with a critical urinary blockage and a terrifying suspicion of consequent kidney, heart and urethra damage.

As the vet team worked to release the blockage, they witnessed a next flood so full of sediment it had almost cemented the urethra. Lamborie’s BUN and Creatinine levels were elevated tenfold — introducing the danger of total kidney failure.  Elevated Potassium levels could have damaged his heart.

The cost of Lamborie’s life so far

Lamborie is critical as we anxiously await his next blood & chemistry panel — if the results are not improved, he may not have much time left. If his results come back better he may still need an urethrostomy — a complex surgical procedure, which creates a permanent opening in the urethra to remove obstructions to urine flow .

Lamborie beat the odds two out of three times. Will he survive this third challenge fate has thrown at him to finally be adopted? It’s up to you. Help Lamborie live by donating today towards his treatment fund.
