“The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them;
that’s the essence of inhumanity.”

– George Bernard Shaw

Please, watch this video to the end:

Did you see her?

The lanky, thin, badly wounded ghost with blood on her face?
Well, hundreds of thousands of people didn’t. She was in their faces but they did not see her. This video is part of an evening news report of a popular TV station in a country of 6 Million. Most people didn’t see her; those who saw her didn’t care; and those who cared didn’t do anything to help.

This is the world we live in.

This is the world that we are trying to change, rescue by rescue, story by story, step by step.

Please, keep reading…

As soon as we learned of the ghost we set off to find her.   Days after the news item was shot and aired she was still there, weak and helpless, with a head wound that had become more infected and… with a pile of meager bones somebody had generously left her.  We named her Niyah, meaning “purpose, radiance”.

We approached her but she ignored us, engrossed in what must have been her first ‘food’ in days. The bones seemed more precious to her than her own life.  Her fur was matted and filthy and God only knew what pain was hiding underneath it. A huge open wound gaped on the left side of her face, blood and puss dripping from it. The smell of death lingering.  Niyah was in urgent need of help.  We rushed her to our clinic immediately.

=====================

Update April 15, 2015

It took a team of 3 vets to gently shave the matted, bloodied, and tick infested fur off of Niyah.  What they uncovered was neglect and pain.

2

Niyah is an emaciated dog 2/3rd her normal body weight. She has hundreds of small cuts and wounds throughout and the worst one is the gaping hole on the top of her head which goes right through to her ear.

3

IMG_0235

The hole has been repaired and tubes placed to drain the wound while she heals.  Niyah’s general condition is guarded.  She has an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), is having trouble maintaining a steady body temperature, and has a severe intestinal infection.

Niyah finally has a warm place where people are caring for her.  She was a ghost out on the streets, dying, while thousands looked on.

Niyah had been somebody’s dog. She had been somebody’s loyal, kind companion, but was now neglected and abandoned.

In Niyah’s world when you are somebody’s friend they hurt you and leave you behind.

In Niyah’s world when you are in trouble thousands don’t notice you and those that do cringe away in disgust, or worse, are completely indifferent to your suffering.

=====================

Update May 11, 2015

We have a few updates on Niyah, and will start with the good news. The ear and head wound have healed completely so Niyah does not need to wear a collar anymore; and all her blood tests are coming back normal. Niyah will soon be on her way to a lovely foster home, where she will have a friend to play with and a huge green lawn to enjoy.

Noah

Now the interesting news. Recently we received a call from one of our vets, who had read Niyah’s story on our Facebook page, and who asked us:

“Didn’t you hear us calling this doggy a ‘he’ not ‘she’?” 🙂

So it turns out that Niyah is actually Noah! Under all that matted fur we must  have missed the fact because he is neutered quite effectively, and there is practically no evidence left (no offense, Noah).  He also squats when he pees and is incredible sweet and gentle.   Noah’s state when we rescued him was so dire that our priority was taking emergency care of him over all other details.

Noah

And now the bad news.. When Noah was admitted to the clinic he tested positive for HEARTWORM and has been receiving treatment for the last while. The first phase of treatment has just ended and Noah will now rest for a month before the second part begins. The second phase is more risky.

Update August 12, 2015

We are extremely happy to share with you that Noah’s long treatment is over!

When we learnt of Noah he weighed only 2/3 of his normal weight. His body could not maintain its temperature. He had arrithmia, his stomach was inflamed and his body was covered in ticks. When he was shaved we found many small puncture wounds on his body, a few large slashes and a huge gaping hole starting just above and encircling his entire left ear. Noah was in bad shape.

Today the sad ghost we saved months ago looks and feels like this. 🙂

Noah after treatment

Noah is large, white, fluffy, incredibly energetic and eager to ahead with life.

Noah needs a foster or forever home. Write to us on adoptions@myletsadopt.com if you have just fallen in love.

Today we are changing Noah’s world AND he needs YOU to be part of it. Please help us continue Noah’s care. Help him become the magnificent dog he deserves to be:

    Where is she?

    1. Nigel, she’s in Bulgaria but hopefully when she’s healed she can be adopted anywhere. We transport at no cost to the adopter as long as it’s the perfect home!

      1. tears, hard to believe such a beautiful creatures in such horrible neglect. Nose Bumps from the U.S. We are praying for a complete recovery. Need to be a HEALTY GIRL if you want to come live with our SAMMY Pack!! XoXoXo

      2. I’ll be more than happy to adopt her when she is better. I now have the means to give her the raw diet and I am no longer a smoker. Those were the grounds for the German Shepard I wanted to adopt, but I didn’t have those requirements filled the last time… My email is ignatzmom@yahoo.com I live in Wisconsin, US. I also have two dogs and a cat. Thank you.

          1. Did you get my email? I will try sending again, otherwise!

      3. Thankyou for helping her.

      4. So tempted to apply but I wish I was home a little more. She deserves 24/7 bless her heart she’s beautiful

    2. It never ceases to amaze me the depths humanity go both good and bad. If people turn a blind eye to a living being suffering, they will be the same with humanity….except for people like you Thank you..

  2. Thank you for noticing AND seeking Niyah to help her. I cannot believe that those who filmed her did nothing – not even notifying an organization to help her. That thousands saw the broadcast and no one did anything… But you did and that you are helping her.

I will send what I can to help you in your efforts to help the thousands of animals that are suffering every moment of everyday going unnoticed.

May the eyes and hearts of humans open to see that we share this world with animals and we are supposed to care for those who cannot care for themselves…ALL animals, to include the human animals!

    1. Thank you for saving her, donate monthly so hope this helps and know she will now have a chance and you will find her a special loving home.

Thank you for being the one to notice her and taking her off the streets. It’s so awful that these animals are abandoned in the first place, but worse still that they then become invisible to the vast majority of people. Don’t these people have any compassion anymore? I pray that she’ll recover and I know she’ll get the best care from LAG. Have donated.

  4. I am continually shocked, and I don’t know why. That someone would see this precious baby….and not HELP!!! All that saw this precious sweet defenseless baby, and did not HELP….YOU WILL GO TO HELL….AND YOU WILL ROT IN HELL!!! AND, THAT IS A PROMISE. TO YOU THAT TOOK THIS POOR DEFENSELESS BABY IN……THANK YOU!!!!

  5. S. Eunice says:

I donated for Niyah and I want to thank you for helping her.
When I was fifteen I saw a dog on a US highway that had been hit and his leg was nearly torn off. Everyone on the road, including my relatives, was just ignoring him but I couldn’t, the image of that poor dog has haunted me ever since. I thought that there was no hope for such animals, that nobody could help that dog, but Let’s Adopt has shown me that, yes, there is always hope. Thank you so much for doing this. I hope sweet Niyah’s wounds heal well and she gets well soon.

    1. The Let's Adopt Global Team says:

That is a tough sight to have seen at such a young age.. Hopefully you will get a chance to rescue a soul in trouble one day, to redeem all those who watched and did nothing then.

  6. Daniel Speed says:

  9. Victor is she with you in Spain now?

    1. Niyah is with one of our other many volunteers. She’s in Bulgaria but will be available to adopt anywhere.

  10. Susan Englebry says:

Grateful that NIyah is now in your hands! Looking forward to seeing her more comfortable and beginning to heal. Sent along something to help her on her way to a good life.

  11. What beauty hidden under that pain. For those who ignored her pain your time will come. We must do all we can foe Niyah. I’m sorry Australia will not take these beautiful dogs. .my heart bleeds . We must all help. Every little bit adds up. Can’t wait to see a smile on her face.

    1. She’s going to be a magnificent dog. The person that gets her is going to get a friend for life.

  12. Teena LeBeau says:

I donated what I could. It’s not a lot because I take care of 7 rescued cats and don’t have a lot of money. I would have noticed this innocent beautiful baby. She’s such a beautiful dog even in her state. I see this all the time. People don’t care at all. It hurts my heart to see pictures of her. Poor dog. My kitties are all rescues that were abandoned and thrown away. I adore each and every one of them. Thank you for seeing her and rescuing her. Shame on all the millions of people who watched and did nothing. I could never do that.

  13. Jennifer Gyory says:

Thank you, as always, for helping this beautiful dog. Please give us updates on her progress.
I can’t donate right now, but will do so as soon as I can!
    Thank you again!

  14. Thank you for rescuing her and I hope she makes a good recovery. I’m sure she’ll get a great home – she’s a beautiful dog, despite her injuries and poor condition at the moment, and having suffered so horribly she would be so loving and devoted to anyone who showed her kindness and compassion. I’m sharing and donating.

  15. Marcos López says:

  22. Anwhere? Last time I tried to adopt one of your rescues, Penny, I was informed that my place is too far. I live in the Philippines, by the way, and I currently have 3 dogs. If it’s possible, and as soon as she’s ready, I would like to adopt her. May I know what are the qualifications?

    1. Michelle, yes, anywhere. We’ll get in touch with you. Keep an eye on your email inbox.

  23. Noah looks so well and is going to be a real handsome boy very soon. I hope he copes with the next phase of his treatment and wish he could come and stay in the UK. Well done everyone for helping him 🙂

  24. If I knew he would get on with my boy…. Such deep soulful eyes

  25. Barbara Schulz says:

If you are doing the caustic way to kill HW shame on you. The ‘slow kill’ is very good and isn’t as hard on a dog and there is also a holistic HW treatment that does not hurt the dog at all that is hugely successful.

    http://www.holisticvetclinic.net/

I hope he’ll survive it, most dogs do not, or are hugely compromised using the two treatment approach

  26. Marie- Françoise de Pimodan says:

I sent an email for lovely, Noah.

    1. The Let's Adopt Global Team says:

Thank you, Marie-Francoise, we have received your email and will be replying shortly!
