Abracadabra and a cat came out..
No, this is not a story about a wizard pulling cats out of а hat.
This is the story of Abbie (Abracadabra), who was rescued from the innards of a car, unfortunately not unscathed.
The autumn days have grown cold and it has started raining. Like many cats, Abbie discovered she could take refuge in the warm dry space under the hood of a car. Warm and dry, but not safe.
It didn’t take long before disaster struck. One day Abbie didn’t hear the driver get in. Tired from her day of combing the streets for food scraps, she was fast sleep when he turned the key and started the engine.
Abbie screamed, her pain and horror unimaginable.
Thankfully her cries for help did not go unheard, and with tremendous effort she was extracted from the engine. So great was her suffering that she repeatedly bit her rescuer while being pulled out. A little terrified cat appeared, her front paw mangled and bleeding, a bright red contrast to the rest of her silky grey fur.
Minutes later Abbie and her rescuer were at a clinic.
The kitten was in shock, her temperature undetectable, her leg sporting an open fracture, torn flesh and a rising risk of infection. She was immediately treated for shock, her wound was tended to, and she was tucked in with hot water bottles to slowly raise her body temperature.
While we were preparing this story Abbie underwent emergency surgery to have the wound cleaned and cover the exposed nerves with tissue. The wound is being examined and dressed twice a day. Abbie’s chances of keeping the leg are questionable, but the alternative to the current treatment is only one and very final – amputation.
Abbie is only 4 months.
Abbie deserves a life on 4 legs.
Even if we fail we will know we tried.
Please help us in the fight for Abbie.
Keep her in your thoughts and donate today.
I had a similar case with an older cat but unfortunately, she died in seconds…. I think her spine was broken…. So sad… Since this moment I always knock on the car and wait for a few minutes. I hope Abbie will keep her tiny leg!
What is your adoption procedure? I would be very interested in giving Abbie a forever home. We have just recently had to put our 3 legged 1/2 tail kitty to sleep after rescuing her 14 years ago. We currently have one other rescue cat and 3 dogs, one who is also a rescue. Thank you for what you do!
Hi, we have sent you an email with information on adopting. We are sorry you have had to let your kitty go.. and would love to speak to you about Abbie!
