Penny was a family dog until the day she was given away, or stolen, we´ll never know… what happened to her is the stuff your dog´s nightmares are made of.
Pray he or she never has to go through them.
She appeared one day, trying to find cover from the winds and the rain. She was so kind and loving, people felt pity and started bringing her food and water. Noone took her home, or to a vet. She lived next to that wall for nearly two years… until someone called us.
There is no doubt Penny lived in a home. She has the manners of a dog that has experienced the love of a human. She is calm, polite, housebroken, loving… What happened to her is something we can see by the marks it has left on her body. Literally.
At some point Penny was given away, or stolen, and her nightmare began. Time and Time again Penny was forced to have sex with other dogs and was used for breeding. The condition of her nipples as well and an ultrasound confirmed she was forced to carry multiple litters. But that was nothing compared to what happened next.
Due to her submissive and wonderfully calm character they decided Penny would be a good BAIT DOG and was used for fighting dogs to practice on. Her teeth were filed up right up to the gums. She was rendered completely helpless.
And so it began, fighting dogs were unleashed on her. When she wasn´t mounted she was being torn to pieces. All she could do was to stand there and withstand the pain.
The day she became useless she was thrown away.
The moment she arrived to us we knew we would have a long and complicated road ahead of us. The condition of her skin is terrible. In some areas the scabs and scar tissue are inches thick, and everywhere else the skin is just raw, all hair has fallen, she itches constantly, and as she scratches, she tears her skin further.
Penny has arrived to us in the condition you see, completely dehydrated and barely able to keep her head up. Penny´s blood results show she is completely anaemic. During the time on the streets she contracted Leishmania (a disease transmitted by a mosquito) and Erlichia, a tick born disease.

We are currently working on stabilising her and make her comfortable. She is receiving fluid therapy and beginning her treatments for Mange, Leishmania and Erlichia. All those diseases by themselves are manageable, but when you combine all of them in an animal as weakened as Penny you have a very complicated challenge in front of you.

PENNY: THESE ARE THE SCARS OF A LIFE ON THE STREET!!
PENNY IS RECEIVING DAILY MEDICATED BATHS. All ticks and fleas have long gone but the condition of her skin, remains, simply, terrible.
Her Red Blood Cell count remains at dangerous levels. We are working to resolve her anemia and, little by little, improve her skin.

Penny´s treatment is working!!!!
Slowly slowly she is loosing that thick layer of crust and her skin is becoming soft again, or at least, something that resembles more the feeling of skin.
Her mood remains calm, she is extremely affectionate. In the words of our vet, her character is SPLENDID!!!

Penny continues her recovery surrounded by the love of our medical team. She has an amazing character, she is delightful with kids, dogs, even with cats. An absolute beauty that is finally discovering that not all humans are bad, that some can be trusted…

This poor poor baby! She is so sweet! I am praying she will be healed and make a full recovery and be able to live a happy normal life and forget all the horrible things that happened to her. I will never understand how some people can be so damn cruel to animals and subject them to treatment such as what poor Penny has been through!! I love ALL animals and would never and could never even dream of doing this to an animal. I don’t even have the heart to spray my cat with a water bottle when she climbs on top of the kitchen counter! I am praying for Penny and thinking of her every day. Can’t her teeth be fixed? She still has the roots, so couldn’t someone fashion a bridge to be cemented in like they do with humans? There must be someone with enough skill to do that. I wish I could do more for her, but will share her story. She looks like such a sweet and loving baby. They may have hurt her body, but they were unable to steal her sweet spirit. I have no doubt Penny has been through Hell; and I love what you do; but those are not filed teeth to prevent her from fighting back (the upper fangs surely would have been “filed” as well”). That is a classic wear pattern of a dog that had a big ball to play with — push around and try to bite — like a football or basketball. Penny has enough drama, you don’t need to add to it with hyperbole. I do thank you for all that you do, and I donate when able.
Hi.. yes.. we looked into all kinds of possibilities including wear and tear over the years, chewing stones, but the thing is, there is a straight cut line in most of the teeth, as well as abrasions. Penny shows no interest in balls or objects of any kind. Upper fangs are also filed to avoid puncturing but kept for appearance.

Absolutely unbelievable and I just hate people like this more each day. I am a keen believer what “what goes around, comes around”. People who deal in this world often deal with themselves in the same manner. So you can bet that Dog fighters live in a very aggressive world, it is deplorable that the animals suffer in this way. We will never understand the mind of any dog fighter or someone who just wants to install torture on an animal and I have no wish to. I just wish we could just jettison all these evil people into space and be done with them. Wouldn’t that be grand. Best wishes to this doggie, I feel better know that she is with your team but I also wonder how she will cope with all the horrible things she has gone through.

Poor Penny…. this is unbelievable. Victor, once we rescued 2 dogs from Jamaica, and one was more bad than this (but without having other illnesses). He is today only one beauty old dog. Hopefully, Penny will cure and blossom in the same way… <3

This just brought me to tears. It is just inconceivable to me that people could do such a thing to an animal – ANY animal – but especially a dog that is kind and gentle. Do they have no conscience, no heart, no compassion, no emotion? I have to make myself believe that they will get what they deserve, if not in this life, then the next. I pray that Penny recovers from her physical, as well as mental torture, and lives out her life being loved and happy beyond measure! Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving her and caring for her!

I would just like to say that it is very possible a dog with the good manners Penny has was NEVER given away but was stolen by the stinking dog fighters and possibly right out of her own backyard. We just had a case in TX whereby the family dog was stolen from a privacy fenced LOCKED backyard back in April. The damn dog fighters broke down the fencing to get her. A friend who does dog rescue and specifically goes in and takes the dogs away from the illegal immigrants, got a dog very similar to Penny but not yet completely used up. She took it to her vet who discovered a microchip and the owners were called. They immediately responded and drove to the vet’s office and asked the vet for my friend to please wait for them to get there as she had been up all night and once she knew the dog had caring owners was intending to head home. They were estatic and thanked her profusely, paid the vet bill and took their dog home and to their own vet as she did need treatment for the abuse she’d received at the hands of the dog fighters.
Also here in Florida, small dogs are regularly stolen during burglaries and used for bait in dog fighting. So please don’t assume these dogs were given away willingly. It just is not always the case. Praying for Penny’s healing and again, thank you for rescuing her. I just wish the people who called you could have contacted you sooner, poor girl.

It is, what criminologist would say, a cold case, and even more so being a dog not wearing a microchip…

Such a sweet girl. How horrible the things that have been done to her. I donated what I could at this time. It infuriates me how cruel people can be to these sweet, loving, innocent animals. She did nothing wrong and yet she was taken advantage of and hurt in the most despicable ways. I am praying for this beautiful girl and I know that with the good care you provide, soon we will be reading another success story when she is once again healthy and ready for her forever family who will give her the love and kindness she needs and deserves. This is utterly heartbreaking! Yet sadly so very common! I fear for her many babies as well! Donated to Penny’s care of course. For too long this has been going on, all animal abuse, but I have faith! All of the networks that are avid animal advocates are increasing exponentially, globally. We are seeing victories, albeit small ones, but they are still victories, and will continue simply because we will never give up! With 7 billion humans on this planet and ever increasing, animals are more valuable than we are. They cannot survive without our help, our voice, our actions, and our demands on the world to change, NOW!! In fact, Interpol has now become involved, awesome news. As Facebook will only delete images of animal/child abuse, Interpol requests the information and links and they will go forward and investigate and prosecute…..anywhere!!! Fantastic news!
I am very interested in adopting her, however I live in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Home of Green Peace :). I am a volunteer as well with a dog rescue group, and do home inspections and assessments in my area for prospective foster/adopt applicants. But I am a failed foster parent, like many, as I adopted my foster lol! That is very common! I was a foster parent to teen boys for 10 years and I can tell you, working with animals is more rewarding for me lol. Does Penny have some Shar Pei in her or is her skin just in that bad of condition? My adopted boy was so severely neglected, his skin was in much the same condition, and he is a bear coat, (should have lots of long, thick fur), and his eyes were so infected and had double glaucoma, that his eyes couldn’t be saved and had to be removed completely! But he is a brand new, recycled old man, that jogs beside me on our walks, plays with his brother (my other dog), and loves his car rides :). Animals are so forgiving.
I would dearly love to contribute but am sadly unable to at the moment as I have been the victim of a cyber theft . I already live on a minimum income and this has made it impossible to live let alone support those things dear to my heart . Assuredly I will return asap meanwhile I continue to share and send good wishes every day . XXX
I feel so bad for what Penny went through and I hope the people that did this get caught so they can’t do this to more dogs. I would love to Foster Penny but I’m in Florida. I have a dog that I fostered a couple years ago and of course ended up adopting my spoiled rotten fur baby. I pray these creeps get caught and hope Penny finds her forever loving home.

When I see a big beautiful dog like Penny so neglected and abused…it breaks my heart to think of all the pain and heart ached that she endured for years. I am so very happy that this sweet girl has been rescued by LAG because now, I am certain that she will be well treated, medically and emotionally. She is such a beautiful gentle giant and this is probably why she had so many litters of pups but at the same time, she has such a loving, kind and gentle dog. her puppies just may have the same genle demeanour. I sure hope that these people won’t harm Penny’s puppies.
Viktor, you and the staff at LAG have worked so manyt miracles for animals that otherwise would have been euthanized….animals that simply needed some medical care and the trust and love from awonderful people who actually want to ensure that animals that are in desperate need of medical and emotional care.

I’ve followed, donated, and shared along with all of the good things you and your team have been doing over the years. It’s really heartwarming and helps to put a little more faith in the human race for somebody who typically has none.
It’s mind boggling to think that people can treat other living beings like this and I’m just glad that animals like Penny, and so many others, have been given a second chance.

What a truly heart breaking story – the cruelty of some is unfathomable… So happy she’s found a home and love again. I cannot donate as I have recently rescued 3 pups from homelessness and starvation… but I’m happy to share your story and good work.

If everyone watched video most of these repetitive questions would be answered. Instead of saying what you would do why don’t you go rescue a street dog or dumpster dog living among filth & trash. I rescue animals that have been neglected, sick, & abused. The transformation is beautiful just like precious Penny’s story. She is one of the lucky ones….if ppl would Spay & Neuter & be responsible so many animals could be helped instead of discarded like common trash. I never let my animals out of my sight & always report abuse. Thanks to you & your team Viktor for everything you do. Sharing her story ❤
I have to say that when I first saw the pictures and video of Penny, she appeared to have been broken of her spirit but watching the last video and seeing that smile on her face, you Viktor and your team have helped her to rebuild it! Penny looks so much better.Everything that was done to her and she can still trust and love.Thank You to eveyone who is helping Penny get well. You people are angels and myself I don’t know who could do this to an animal.I couldn’t never ever think about doing this and I have 4 dogs.They are family,not just pets!!!! Whoever did this to Penny I hope they are caught and jailed for it.The SOB shouldn’t even be breathing.You rock PENNY!!!!! Shame on the people who left her there for two years before DOING SOMETHING. Please remember, we have to be their voice. They can’t call a shelter or rescue and ask for help. It is up to each one of us to speak up! Speak up for all the Penny’s of the world. Don’t let them sit by a wall for for two years before you do.
