As expected PETA inmediately wrote a letter of rejection to the Istanbul Municipality… It’s in Turkish so that it can be understood by the barely literate Municipal team. In this letter PETA basically tells them  off and asks them to retract their previous communication and never use their name again in an attempt to justify the crimes committed in Istanbul.

That’s very nice… but… will PETA do anything else?  No... they won’t even publicize this letter in their own site as they feel they shouldn’t justify themselves. Imagine how much attention could they bring into Kadir Topbas mismanagement of the Neuter and Return program in Istanbul… but of course, they won’t do that.

Exactly as expected.. a lame ass response from PETA, the champion of the animals. Bravo!…  I’m rushing to donate to PETA today…

Come on, PETA – show some balls here!!!

  2. I wrote PETA 2 or 3 weeks ago with the plea, to stop this and close hasdal.

And this is just the beginning…

  3. lynda chabane says:

Bloody shame of PETA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are about to lose yet another supporter!!! I am outraged at their lack of interest!!!!!!!!

  4. Carol Iliou says:

But of COURSE PETA gives a lame-ass response! I would expect nothing better of them, unless, of course, there is a celebrity involved to make them look good in front of everyone. PETA sucks and I have been gravely disappointed in them ever since the bitch Ingrid Newkirk took over. It was never the same when Alex Pacheco left….HE would have shown some balls in everything PETA did. Shame on them….and the animals are the ones paying with their innocent blood. Again.

  5. Diane Wallis says:

Peta, I am a supporter and donate to you. Please Please do something more constructive condemn the practice of the Hadal shelter as openly and publicly as you can.

Help to stop this atrocity and bring those responsible to justice.

If all unite we can bring change

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Diane… don’t have any hopes on PETA.
As they told me today.. their priorities are chicken and bunnies…

  6. this is getting really old peta i cant belive they wont do anything all these dogs are being killed and its so sad that they wont support this BULL SHIT

  7. PETA, your name was used officially. GIVE YOUR REPLY AS WELL. Your name was used so it can be known to public, deny it publicly as well!

It is unthinkable that you allow your name and reputation to be stained by the presumption you agreed to murder and torture!

  8. Elizabeth says:

and I’m with you !! The dogs need of us,,,,,, ;(

  9. This dosnt surprise me i have heard lots of bad things about them, theyre a waste of time

  10. Anne McInnis says:

This is exactly why I quit donating to PETA years ago.

  11. Monika Dudziak says:

that is all politics…. PETA looking for something big, what can bring to them “prestige” even if is fake, shallow one….. I am disappointed, I thought PETA is more on the job: helping animals, but seems like they are like all big organisation, calculative and opportunists, SHAME PETA, YOU COULD DO SOMETHING REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Don’t blame PETA for the situation in Turkey, I believe they will use this opportunity to do good for the animals in Turkey too – wan’t you PETA? PLease use your reputation and power – also for the Turkish dogs. I believe in PETA , still………….. from Denmark.

  13. eileen reddy says:

I am now done w peta and will letting them know so..

  14. Kate Cassidy says:

Come on PETA…stand up and be counted…I thought you had more guts…stand up against this evil place..think of those poor animals that suffered….

  15. What ever you do with animals there just do not use the name of PETA.
That’s the lame answer that we expect. So I never donate for blah blah. Dogs are still dying in pain here and the World is watching.

  16. Lizzy Ray says:

Very disappointed to learn this. I’ll be boycotting all PETA groups as of today and urge everyone who is devoted to the protection of animals worldwide to do the same.

  17. Maria Costa says:

This is a shit PETA… i am disappointed… what kind of animals support are you?? You ask for donating but when we need… where are you?? PETA i want never more hear of you!!

  18. I have contacted PETA several times regarding issues with the welfare of strays in several parts of Turkey .. never once has any assistance been offered !

  19. Jayne Matthews says:

PETA never ceases to amaze me!! I wrote to them months ago asking them to explain their practice of killing animals in the back of vans and dumping them in bins on route to the shelters, but of course I got no response. Last week I actually received an email off them asking me ‘not to let the animals down’ and to ‘renew my membership to help save the animals’ . I told them what they could do in no uncertain terms and completed a survey on Peta whilst I was at it telling them exactly what I think of them. However, I can practically guarantee that I will not get a response, but will receive an email in a few weeks/months time asking for donations again, even though I have now unsubscribed from their email list supposedly.

PETA stinks and Ingrid Newbitch is just that!

  20. It’s in Turkish so that it can be understood by the barely literate Municipal team

Barely literate! haha i like that!
i don’t understand turkish so i don’t know what they’re saying, anybody can translate that? (or just explain what’s in it?)

  21. yesterday February 4, 2011 at 12:41 pm a link was suggested by Debz Power, in the , ” Comments to “Kadir Topbas: PETA knows!” .That link was to a page “Rate your mayor”.A couple of clicks + additional comments and the results will be published on the City Mayors website.
I dont know but in my warpped mind if all “Lets Adopt” supporters go to that page and rate him a 0 then leave afew choice messages about what he gets up to,
Instead i just copied and stuck it in the website space above this comment.
I dont know but could this not be another public way to frustrate the crap out of him? I cant do very much on the computer otherwise id make the link workable.
    Just a thought?

  22. PETA is not ALF of course, they dont have balls ,their approach as expected is purely diplomatic.
Still, they could at least ask the situation be corrected and mention this on their pages,
    but as I said;

They would not make enough money in Turkey…so why mentioning this case?

  23. PETA: Comme dit; petit mais efficace est souvent mieux que grand et INefficace.

PETA: how I said, little is very often more efficient that big and INefficient !

PETA: wie ich sagte, klein ist sehr oft mehr efffizient als gross und INeffizient!

PETA: comme detto, piccolo e sovente piu efficace che grande e INefficace!

  24. Karin Jetter says:

Until today I never donated any single € to PETA and I will not do in the future… I always give my money to Orgas where I know, what is going on with it…

NOW I know that this feeling was right. I’m very very sorry for all the pressured abused animals that PETA is not working for them… Their chances would have been so much greater….

  25. VERY GOOD JOPE!
    ANIMALS NEED HELP!

  26. PETA, YOU TALK A GOOD GAME AND PRAISE YOURSELF QUITE VOCIFEROUSLY,.
NOW PUT YOUR PHILOSOPHY INTO ACTION.

  27. Jayson Levine says:

Letter faxed into PETA’s Norfolk, Virginia (USA) headquarters. Please feel free to adapt/reword/use to your heart’s content. Don’t ask. Just do.

    Sir/Madam:

Hasdal Rehabilitasyon Merkezi – “Hasdal Rehabilitation Center”: A municipal animal “shelter” located in Istanbul, Turkey, and currently under significant fire from the international community. At the heart of the issue is the abject squalor and deplorable conditions found therein, in direct violation of multiple tenets of the country’s Animal Welfare Law. I am certain that the name is not unknown to those of you who have their fingers on the pulse of international events concerning animal welfare.

I contact you today because, while I am an American citizen and I do not live in Turkey, I am involved in whatever efforts with which I may assist to work for the betterment of the animals held within Hasdal’s boundaries by supporting the eradication of inexcusable conditions and improving the facilities and the staff who carry out activities there, both day-to-day and long-term planning.

You may be aware of the fact that the incumbent mayor of the city of Istanbul, Kadir Topbaş, through his Istanbul Municipality Veterinary Department, recently released a statement that invoked PETA’s name, as quoted here:

“All the rehabilitation practices that the Istanbul Municipality is and has been doing under the 5199 Animal Protection Law and Regulation of Practice for the well-being and welfare of the stray animals are known by all animal organizations in Turkey, non-governmental organizations, related professional chambers and by international organizations such as PETA.”

You may also be aware of the fact that PETA, through its German headquarters (PETA Deutscheland e.V.), issued a response on February 4th, 2011, to this false statement, rejecting the claim’s truth, requesting a retraction, and, furthermore, ordering the municipality to never invoke its name again to justify the heinous crimes committed within their jurisdiction.

While PETA may very well have opinions and positions that differ from those of other individuals and organizations that work daily for the improvement of the lives of animals the world over, I believe that this is an appropriate opportunity for PETA to utilize its ubiquitous presence and the weight of its influence in drawing the due attention of the world community to these atrocities, seemingly written off by the local government leadership.

Surely, PETA recognizes the fact that the conditions within Hasdal’s facility are nowhere near the lowest boundaries of “acceptable;” otherwise, I am of the mind that the German arm of your outfit would never have so much as responded, let alone taken the time to translate their communication into the Turkish language so as to remove any barriers to understanding.

It is with only the most good-intended heart that I implore you to consider bringing this situation more to light so that the animals who die daily at Hasdal Rehabilitation Center in Istanbul, Turkey may one day receive the care that their country’s law demands.

Again, different organizations may have differences of opinion on various topics, but time is always of the essence when we put those differences aside and recognize that while we disagree and argue, animals continue to die and suffer mistreatment. God gave us a great responsibility to be good stewards of all over which He gave us domain. Let us honor Him by raising awareness of these atrocities and expediting their remedy.

You have the influence. There could be no better time than now to exercise it. It is never the wrong time to do the right thing.

    Yours sincerely,

    Dr. Jayson Levine

  28. Yes, peta just use the soap, wash hands, and go to sleep and dream of sweet dreams… for a better tomorrow. Better tomorrow from where?
Oh, someone will save the world, but we… lets just keep making money and “save” animals from time to time…
