On the evening of the 8 of April Let’s Adopt! received a most generous offer. Altruism in its purest form.

The offer came from our friend Leonard Coyne, a businessman based in Byron Bay (Australia) that is also deeply involved in the running the Soi Dog Foundation, our Thai partner.

I’ll toss out a challenge here…

I will match your contribution (dollar for dollar, euro to euro whatever) up to a total of $100. What does that mean? If you contribute $10, your contribution DOUBLES to $20. Let me know if you make a contribution as a result of this post ( leonard@soidog.org and I will donate in kind)
UPDATE: LEONARD’S CHALLENGE HAS BEEN INCREASED. CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE MATCHED UP TO A LIMIT OF USD 150!!

This is a great opportunity for Let’s Adopt! to raise some needed funds towards the rescue of our animals. It is the kind of offer that happens very rarely and when it does it is practically exclusively linked to corporate charities.

It is also a great opportunity for reflection… people from around the world are rallying on behalf of Turkish dogs and Let’s Adopt!, an organization that started in Turkey. Why would a businessman from Australia want to help our Turkish dogs? The answer is clear to most of us, because ANIMALS DON’T HAVE NATIONALITIES. The entire world understand this very simple fact, unfortunately many  so-called-animal lovers in this country believe a Turkish dog must die in Turkish soil. This attitude is born out of paranoia, lack of education and an extremely narrow perception of the world. No intelligent person could think this way. Many Turkish animal lovers do, and it is very sad.

it is bittersweet to see that this international support is somewhat not corresponded by Turkish support. Still, we accept the situation as it is and we rely on our members to make a difference. How we wish Turkish businessmen/businesswomen and normal citizens followed this example and came up with their own initiatives to help our animals.

So, feel free to contribute to our Chipin today and drop an email to Leonard@soidog.org.   Let’s not make his generous offer be in vain.

The Simba Fund is located on our blog and here :  Simba Fund

  5. Today, April 9, is the anniversary of ME being rescued as a child by a foster family. How fortuituous that I saw this post today, of all days. In the spirit of “Paying It Forward” (and meeting Mr. Coy’s challenge to the max), I’ve sent $100.00 to the Simba Fund via paypal.

THANK YOU for fighting for those who cannot speak for themselves. And THANK YOU Mr. Coy, for you generosity of spirit and wallet!!

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Amazing… well.. Donde.. today has been a very auspicious day… we have found homes for a one eye dog in Ankara, a rescued dogie that will go to Salzburg, two handicapped cats that will remain in Istanbul and Zoe that will travel to Saint Etienne in France.

So.. record day, from all points of view…

  6. Viktor just when I begin lose faith in humans people like your Leonard and my Bruce today come through. I had enough food to last till Monday and I been begging online everywhere when Bruce donated $35.00 USD so I could buy food. I been in tears all day thinking I was going to have to close my door on Monday and ignore the cats cries for food. Can you see 36 cats yelling all at once? I was ready to go rob a bank or at least a grocery store by walking out without paying for the cat food. lol. Damn cats were going to send me to jail for stealing for them, lol.

Leonard your a great guy! Kudos to you and Bruce for helping us help those who cannot help themselves!

  7. Victor that’s great news. I love hearing about them finding homes. I’m amazed you found homes for the disabled cats, that’s wonderful! WE ROCK! 😉

  8. Hilal Ozcan says:

April 9 is the anniversary for two of my rescues, as well. what a special day!

  9. Thanks to everyone, Khop khun khrop. Khun, jai dee, Khrop (Thai for “Thank you, you are good hearted”).

Let’s amp it up! I’ll toss in another $150 for matching donations! (Chin, ting tong mai? Mai Pin Rai,) (Thai for “Am I crazy? No worries!”)

  10. Thanks Mr. Coyne for your generousity, I donated $30 on April 14th.

    Best,
    Deniz

  11. ayse arzık says:

Hi Leonard. Ive just contributed $100. You are doing a great work!

  12. Coleen Tew says:

Hi Leonard, and thank you so much for your generosity. I donated $50.00; I wish I could give so much more. It’s good to know there is kindness in this cruel world of ours.

  13. Thanks again to everyone who has contributed. The beauty of causes like this is that every thing you choose to give goes DIRECTLY to solving a problem.

This sort of grassroots approach is one of the most effective ways of making change. Large animal rights groups spend up to 80% of donations on “administrative costs”. The internet has now provided a level playing field for the organizations and people who really do make a difference!.

    Keep it up!
