Yagmur and Sari kiz
Yagmur and Sari kiz

We hear and read news about atrocities committed against animals on a daily basis.

Furthermore, in most cases, these atrocities are committed by elected people. In most cases, Mayors.

It’s always the same story. Mayor gets elected, lots of promises amongst them to do his best to contribute to the control stray animal population following the Animal Welfare Law. Then, after a couple of months promises are forgotten and the elected official gives free rein to its lowest instincts by engaging on a killing/poisoning spree.

This is how it works… and you all know it.

But you see… The thing is that normally those animals are anonymous beings to most except those who cared for them on the streets.

Last month we briefly saw a glimpse of light when we saw Ebru’s death make it to the front page of every single newspaper in the nation.

Unfortunately memories are short, and most stray animals don’t enjoy “celebrity” status.

Let’s Adopt was accused (amongst other things) of trying to profit from Ebru’s death and neglecting to showcase the plea of other strays.

Today we are going to do solve this.

Yagmur and Sari kiz
Yagmur and Sari kiz

This is the story of Yağmur and her best friend, Sarı generic levitra any good Kız (Blonde Girl). Yağmur is a five year old girl in İzmir; An animal lover in purest form, a purity that can only be enjoyed by children before they are tainted by bigotry and prejudice.

For the last three years Yağmur has been feeding Sari Kız daily… Every morning she would wake up 30 minutes earlier and rush out of the home on the way to the kindergarten without forgetting to stop at the square down the road to feed Sarı Kız and to play with her for a few minutes.

Same ritual at night.

Everyday. Rain or shine.

Two weeks ago the story of Sarı Kız and Yağmur took a turn for the worse. Cevat Durak, the mayor of Karşıyaka, one of İzmir neighborhoods decided to end the stray dog problem his way, that is by rounding them up, dropping some in far away hills and dumping as many as possible, at a terrifying concentration camp for dogs.

Turkish people love children. They will do anything to make a child happy. Still, for years the Mayor of Karşıyaka has made Yağmur and her friends at school cry with his illegal acts.

The problem is, what Cevat Durak did is illegal. The Animal Welfare Law clearly states that stray dogs must be vaccinated, neutered and return to the place where they were found. Sarı Kız was neutered. She was also vaccinated. Still, Cevat Durak loaded her (and tens of others) on a truck and dumped them on a nazi-style concentration camp for dogs where they will die of hunger, thirst and disease.

Sarı Kız is, today, desperately trying to survive at the “shelter” she was sent to. Yağmur cries, missing, waiting for her friend. Mr. Durak will have a nice fish lunch with his friends in one of İzmir’s best restaurants and return to his comfortable home to watch soap operas in the evening.

Under Turkish Welfare Law 5199 isnt it illegal to keep neutered dogs imprisioned ? They must be returned to where they were found.
Sari Kiz will probably become ill in the shelter as do so many .. her chances of survival are much better on the streets especially as she is known and loved ,
I will write and also xpost this widely.
    Thank you.

  2. Shame on YOU, Mr.Durak!!!

Please please make Turkey an animal friendly country. The abuse I have read above is so sad and moving me to tears. I beg you with all my heart, to do something to help the dog situation, and you have the power to help and you ignore the suffering. I cannot even think of going to visit this country whilst the abuse is happening. I despair.
    Many thanks and regards

il est temps que l´on fasse quelque chose pour ces pauvres animaux sans défense, que´on tue et maltraite sans raisons !!!

  13. Shame on you Mr. Cevat Durak!

As a mayor, YOU should be the first one who respect the law in your country and not willfully ignoring them.

The animal welfare Law 5199 clearly states that stray dogs must be vaccinated and neutered and returned to the place where they were found.
I urge you to bring these dogs back safe and sound to where they belong, because dear Sir, you also know that dogs are not treaten well in Turkish shelters!

Quote: The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children. ~Dietrich Bonhoeffer ~
And even this child has already a moral obligation of respect, compassion and kindness towards these animals and she should be an example for all adults in your country, where violence is more a rule than an exception.

Please ensure that Saikiz is returned to the girl Yaðmur in Karbyyaka.

  14. This man shouldn’t be allowed to get away with being so cruel, it’s not just the dogs that are suffering but children who care and have a heart that are suffering as well. These poor dogs are the innocent victims who have done nothing wrong besides being born in the wrong country, in the wrong are where such a nasty evil man sees fit to take control and force them to endure a horrible slow painful and lonely death.

  15. Joanna Siokou says:

    Honorable Mayor Durak,
We believe that you will be touched from the cries of all animal friends of this world and you will be fair enough to return the lovely dog Sar Kiz to his place and make a young girl happy again, who was feeding this dog during many years now. According your Law on Animals : 5199, Stray dogs and cats have the right to live in the streets.
Sari Kiz has the right to go back to her beloved friend Yagmur. After all, a shelter in Turkey is not the best place for the poor stray animals.
Hoping that you will hear our voice and you will immediately release Sari Kiz,
    Yours faithfully

This is my e-mail to the Mayor, I hope he pays some intention.

  16. Sn.

  17. Leyla Çakmakçı says:

    Sent my email.
    Thanks for highlighting these events.
Without you, how many disgraceful, wicked actions would go unnoticed?

  18. What this cruel barbaric mayor has done is against the law in Turkey and he should be brought to justice this little girl needs her friend back and he should also fetch all the other strays he has taken and obey the Turkish law I will cross post this far and wide it is disgusting what he has done to these strays

  19. Shame on YOU, Mr.Durak!!!

  20. Please help stop animal cruelty. Love & care for all animals including stray dogs. Show humanity & make this world a better place for our future children.
