WHO IS CASPER
Casper showed up a few months ago in the neighborhood of one of our volunteers. For a while everything seemed fine, then bit by bit he went downhill — his coat got matted, his paws turned yellow, and drool was running from his mouth that he couldn’t really control.
When Casper also started struggling to eat, we knew we had to step in.
After a few weeks of failed stakeouts and tries, this weekend we managed to trap the wary — but in deep trouble — boy and get him into the vet clinic.
Probably because of how poorly he feels, Casper isn’t friendly at all, so he had to be sedated even for the short first check.
The vets found severe bilateral inflammation in his mouth, plus a combination of mycoplasmosis and calicivirus. Next, the boy be sedated again for a thorough exam and assessment of the mouth, gums, and teeth. If there are badly inflamed, broken, or otherwise problem teeth, they’ll be extracted; if possible, we also plan to have him neutered during the same procedure.
HELP FOR CASPER
Casper is hospitalized and has started receiving care; right now we don’t really know how long he’ll need to stay. Stabilizing him and getting the serious mouth infection under control could take a few weeks.
