The irresponsibility

Stray kittens like Parenso exist because of irresponsible people. Every stray’s origins can be traced back to a particular home and somebody’s unwillingness to be a responsible owner, who spays, neuters and protects.

The cruelty

Parenso was hurt on the street. According to the vets his specific injuries suggested that he was twirled by his tail, probably by little kids to whom everything is a game. That wicked game had dislocated the last two vertebrae of Parenso’s spine and had torn the spinal nerves.

Grave danger hung over Parenso – he could walk and even run, but he had no chances of surviving without specialized help. Because of the damaged spinal nerves he had lost control of his toilet functions – he was unable to urinate on his own. That meant that his bladder would constantly overfill, exposing him to chronic infections, which, if left untreated, could kill.

The rescue

Parenso was rescued, but not quite. A young couple found him and took him to a veterinary clinic. They were told that the cat would require specialized care for the rest of his days – twice a day his owners would need to help him pee by pressing on his belly, exerting pressure on his bladder and initiating urination. The couple brought Parenso home and tried, but not hard enough.

A few days later they took the little cat to the clinic and never went back for him.

In case you’re ever tempted to do the same, please be aware that a tiny number of strays, abandoned in veterinary clinics, make it. Most of them are euthanised. In other words – if you ever plan to abandon an animal in a clinic, at least have the decency to sign a formal request for euthanasia.

The hope

Like in all professions, there are vets and vets. Parenso would not be alive today if that weren’t true. Having realized that Parenso had been abandoned by his rescuers, his vet contacted us with the hope that we could help.

We

Well, we couldn’t but we did. We often mention the fact that we are volunteers. Why do you think we do that? To impart an understanding of how small the resource we have available is, and that for every case we take on we have refused at least 20.

We went to the clinic to meet Parenso. He was in his cage, and not knowing we were deciding his fate at that moment, looked at us like this.

Let's Adopt, Parenso

When we looked into those eyes, we knew that Parenso had to live.

The courage

Caring for a cat like Parenso requires nothing impossible. Nothing you haven’t felt as a kid when jumping off a high tree branch or exploring the neighborhood’s favorite scary place at dusk.

Caring for a cat like Parenso requires courage, dedication and belief that you can cope.

And thank God that two People had all that it took and Parenso was adopted, dear friends.

He lives a happy life, he runs and jumps, he is loved and loves, and he has no clue that something is not quite right with him.

And he will never know just how close he came to dying.

You

But the story isn’t over!

Because there may be a lot of darkness in the world, but thankfully there is also much light in it, and we want to share some of it with you.

We’ve said it before – the only reason animals like Parenso have a shot at life is your support.

Here is what we mean, please read on..

Iskra is a young woman who follows our work. Zariya is her mother and a piano teacher. Iskra shared the story of Parenso with her mother, and she in turn shared it with her students. This is how the story of the little cat reached Alexander, an architect, who also loves to play the piano. Alexander decided to help Parenso and proposed to perform at a charitable concert while donating all profit towards Parenso’s medical bills.

Parenso’s concert invite

The concert happened, Alexander played beautifully, we met some amazing people, and Parenso’s bills were paid in full.

The concert!
The concert!

This, in short, is our world.

There are irresponsible people in it, who help spawn generations of homeless animals. There are cruel people who hurt others.. There are people, who would like to, but never quite “do”. There are vets that give up without trying; and there are those who don’t. There are noble people who will practice for weeks and play in front of a full concert hall, while taking home only smiles.

There are brave people who don’t fear the fact that someone will need you every day, twice a day, for the next 15 years.

Thank you for choosing your place in this world, and being one of those who care.

Comments from all of you…everywhere demonstrate the very GRACE that exists in a very challenging and often unfair, unkind, unjust world…a consequence of human behavior>>>>>>>
we are so good and yet so bad…protectors and destroyers of all things…because we chose, like no other force of nature…just human nature…can we ever overcome all that cruelty which is so much a part of us?!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Dear Rescue Team of Parenso

It’s a wonderful story to read – not only because of a happy ending, which of course makes it even more beautiful. It’s a wonderful story because the words are full of love and compassion. Also for the weakest ones there shines a light. Also for the ones, that will suffer their life long from the injuries they sometimes got from the people they trusted most. Thank you for saving Parenso, caring for him and finding him the most loving family he could get.

    Kind regards from Switzerland
