Pepper is only a year old but he already knows what it means to get the short end of the stick.  Several months ago this sweet stray’s peaceful daily routine was shattered – Pepper suffered an accident which seriously damaged the lower part of his body.

There was nobody there to care. Nobody rushed him to a clinic and he didn’t receive timely medical attention. Pepper used a few of his nine lives to survive the next few months. He dragged himself along, bleeding, hurting, ignored. Miraculously, he survived and his luck finally changed when two young people noticed him and took him to hospital.

A thorough examination discovered  a severe, old wound on his rear area and his tail had been ripped off. The doctors’ opinion is that Pepper suffered a dog attacks several months back, but survived .

The unforgiving teeth damaged his vertebrae and consequently caused loss of bowel functions control.

Pepper’s troubles didn’t end there. Ultrasound, XRays, blood and biochemistry tests were performed. The wall of his bladder was found to be unusually thick, indicating a severe chronic infection, for which treatment was started. Mercifully, there was no indication of kidney problems. Pepper’s urethra was partially obstructed and we’ve had to do an urethrostomy.

However, Pepper can easily go to the toilet if a person gently presses on his belly in order to initiate urination or defecation. This is a skill easily learnt in a veterinary clinic, usually acquired within a week. Pepper requires that someone help him this way morning, evening, and once before bed time — a manageable routine.

On the street Pepper suffered silently, with no help, no pain control and no hope – for months. In the clinic he’s endured quietly and with dignity for more months while he heals.

He is ready to get out now. He needs to get out now. He needs to start living again.

The road ahead of Pepper is long. He will thrive, but just needs someone to walk with him.  Will you walk with him?

Can you help him live a real life?

Pepper is eager to swap the clinic for a foster, or forever home. He will require a kind person to help him go to the toilet; he will repay this kindness tenfold with love and affection.

This sweet fur-baby is one of the most affectionate and cuddly animals we’ve rescued. When we visit he can’t get enough.

But his face sinks in sadness when we leave and he is locked back into his compartment..
