Nothing could have prepared us for the  complications of this rescue. Let me tell you her story.

Coco was born in a city in the South of Turkey.

A Labrador mix that was never given the chance to experience the warmth and love of a human home. Instead, she did her best to survive on the streets, eating whatever food was given to her. Moving from one dump to another until she finally found a corner where she would be left in peace, a corner in a rubbish dump she could call her own.

That´s where we found her. Sitting in the crumbling remains of an old couch, barely able to move due to the severe malformation in her legs.

We were moved beyond words. There was an ill, handicapped and rejected girl that was still able to wag her tail and ask for cuddles.

There was no time to wait, she needed to be rescued. We flew and got her out of that hell she was living.

Coco has been treated for the many small conditions of a lifetime on the streets, a parasitic infestation, eye and skin infections, Erlichiosis. She went through it and recovered greatly. She finally discovered food, and oh boy, she loves that!

But now we must deal with the biggest problem of all… her legs.

Both of Coco´s legs present deformities due to a life of malnutrition on the streets. Her bones are twisted and force her to walk in a position that impacts her wrist and causes her enormous pain. She barely gets around and needs help to stand on firm ground.

Coco was rescued last Christmas and since then she has been living in a great foster home while we managed to organise her paperwork and the logistics of her trip to us for treatment.

The long wait is over. COCO IS FINALLY READY TO FLY… It´s time for Coco to start a new life!

On Wednesday 2nd of July Coco will leave Turkey for good.

Upon arrival she will be taken to our clinic and we will put at her disposal the latest technology and medical equipment to figure out what can we do to to help her. Whatever happens I promise you her life is going to be radically different that what it has been until now…

UPDATE 2nd July…

Coco is now with us!!! Feel the energy… you HAVE to see this video…

Update  22 of July…

After studying Coco´s case EXTREMELY CAREFULLY, our surgical team and ourselves have decided to go ahead and proceed with what in medical terms is called a bilateral arthrodesis with surgical deangulation on Coco´s front legs.

We looked at several factors including her current age, current mobility, her current levels of pain, estimated prognosis….

This is an extremely complicated procedure that will have to be performed on two stages. First one leg, then the other. It will be performed by one of the most qualified surgeons in Europe. The surgery is scheduled for the 13 of August.

There are very few communities in the world that would dare taking a case as complicated as this one and assume all surgical costs. The simple fact is, Dogs like Coco usually never get a chance.

Update 13 of October..

Coco´s surgery was postponed in August… we preferred instead to wait a while until Coco was totally comfortable with us so that she would tackle the post-op recovery with total guarantees.

So Coco set out to have a wonderful summer with her friends at our amazing boarding facility. I tell you… this is the happiest and funniest dog in the world… she is unbelievable..

Coco is a beautiful dog, she is also a dog that, I promise you, will run again one day… Please make this dream a reality.. Help us cover Coco´s current expenses.

Please Help her.. Donate so that Coco can have her life back.

Please help us tell the world about Coco´s by SHARING her story on your social networks. Many thanks!!

Viktor Larkhill

P.S. As ever, we will be publishing updates on Coco´s rescue both here and in our Facebook Page, Let´s Adopt! Global

    This is absolutely wonderful.
I donated for Coco a few months back and then you explained the red tape issues and that Coco´s departure would have to be delayed. I am very glad you took her off the streets, that you took such wonderful care of her during this time and that her wait is finally over.
We are Donating again for trip and her treatment. When you post her picture with you is going to be a beautiful day for all of us that love you.
    Lina

I know you will be able to fix Coco’s legs. I have seen the miracles you have worked before. I will be praying for her. Thank you for rescuing her. She has been blessed!

  7. …this reminds me of a dog at the rescue I volunteered at a few years ago – he came in with his front legs very similar to Coco’s – even worse. it was found he had rickets and with a healthy diet and vitamin D therapy his legs returned to normal!

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

The problem is her age. We don’t know what caused it, even if it was rickets those legs are now fully grown and developed and they have strong functional problems…

God Bless everyone, Please keep us updated on her condition. Please give her hugs and kisses for me…

  19. Nancy Di Matteo says:

Viktor, as usual I will give my small donation for Coco. I hope that you can help her walk correctly. Poor little one. I just have to ask, because I haven’t seen anything about Diego, the little kitty you took in. For some reason, she tugged at my heartstrings more than any other animal. And that’s saying something because I love them all. If you could just take a moment and let me know how she is doing, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
    Love & hugs, Nancy

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Hi Nancy.. Diego is doing GREAT.. he has been adopted in Geneva. I will update about him tomorrow…

  20. Lynette Elliott (Morrow) says:

If surgeons can successfully straighten out the profound scoliosis in my 74 year old mother’s back (78% curvature of the spine–her hip bone touched her ribcage on her right side) then they can fix Coco’s legs. She went from being 4’11 to standing at her previous 5’3″ height! Coco is in good hands and I’m sure her procedures will be successful. Thank you for changing lives for the better. Donating again!

  21. Thank you Viktor for all that you do. I share always, and donate each time as much as possible. God Bless You.

  30. Teresa Christine Gurner says:

Thanks for helping, just sent donation!

  31. Shawna Alapa'i says:

Blessings to Coco for her perseverance in life against all the horrible odds! First thing that came to my mind when seeing her walk and her condition is, get her a Handicappedpets.com walking wheelchair? It seems that the more she’s made to walk on her own, especially on concrete, roads, up stairs as it shows in the video, her pain continues. Can a fund be made to provide her with a Handicappedpets.co wheelchair? Will she get the medical help that she needs, now, while you’re trying to raise money for her care or does she have to wait until the money is raised in order to get the medical help she needs? Thanks to all that you do to rescue these precious animals.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Shawna, she is already getting medical treatment. First we did a full xray analysis, we are not consulting it with three different surgeons to see what is the alternative.
Her condition is called Radius Corvus and we need to evaluate wether an operation is feasible or not. We don´t want to do more harm that it´s already done.
No.. a wheelchair is not an option. You can´t use a wheelchair on a dog that has been walking that way all her life. It is not comfortable, it is not comfortable, but so far it´s her way, putting her on a wheelchair would be like closing her inside a cage.

  32. fiona Kelly says:

Im so glad you found her ive donated.

  33. Have you found a home for her yet? I would love to have her. She reminds me of my precious Georgia. I rescued her from Hurricane Katrina and she is the love of my life!

  34. What a sad storey

Do you have clinics in the UK ? x

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks… Marion, unfortunately no, we don´t have any clinic we work with in the UK. The reason is that so far we have been rescuing internationally, some of our animals go to live in the UK afterwards, but by the time they get there, they are healthy and recovered…
We know, however of amazing referral hospitals in the UK, places like Davis Referals or Fitzpatrick Referals..

  40. Grando Ng says:

CoCo, I’m happy that you have been resecured and a surgery is scheduled finally. Your life will be definitely different after the surgery. Real life and happy life will come along with you. My blessings to you.

  41. Victor can you give us an update on Coco? I thought she was scheduled for surgery.

    Thank you

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Dear Sue… I´m going to update this morning on our page. Yes.. she was scheduled for surgery but we had to move it back due to Tara´s operation taking priority. Ill update this morning and explain. Her operation will very likely happen next week.

  42. Dear Viktor, LAG
How is Coco doing? has she had her surgery?
    Many thanks
