In just a couple of days, on Thursday evening most of us will be celebrating Thanksgiving surrounded by our families and those we love. I want to introduce you someone that will spend Thanksgiving alone, battling extensive injuries and fighting for his life. His name is Duke.

Duke has been found with extensive injuries on his lower body. He was rushed to the clinic in a state of shock. His tail was rotten and surrounded by necrotic tissue. It was so damaged that it fell off right on the vet´s hands!

IMG_6228
There is no way of knowing how long he survived on the streets in that condition, but he was nearly frozen and burning like a stove due to infection. It was clear that small rural vet would not be able to treat Duke and the only alternative in their eyes was euthanasia. But before they killed him they contacted us and asked for help…

Duke arrived to us this morning in an absolutely appalling condition. He was a sight to behold… His massive injury had been covered in gauze that melted with the raw flesh. I will never forget the stench of feces and urine mixed with rotten flesh. His hip has been shattered and the skin around his hip and buttocks is totally gone.

IMG_6234
He was absolutely terrified, shaking like a leaf but with his eyes he was begging for help. The moment we opened his cage and we touched him gently, he knew he was finally safe.

PLEASE WATCH THIS EMOTIONAL MOMENT…

In a couple of days we will be giving thanks for all the good things we have in our lives.

Today I want to thank you in advance and personally ask your help on behalf of beautiful Duke, that finds himself in a terrible position, having absolutely nothing and nobody… except us!

November 30

DUKE IS PUTTING UP THE FIGHT OF HIS LIFE!!!

Duke was in an absolutely appalling condition when he arrived to us, his blood levels were awful and he was in so much pain that at first we had to keep him drugged most of the time…
This is being a TERRIBLY LONG HOLIDAY… FOR DUKE AND FOR US…

BUT… HE IS IMPROVING!!! PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT BOTH PICTURES AND YOU WILL SEE THE EVOLUTION THERE!!!

December 3

Duke continues his treatment. His massive injury is improving slowly but surely. The combination of antibiotics and the application of the Manukah Honey is ensuring his skin is growing back.

But now, there is another hurdle for Duke to jump over…  His broken femur needs to be operated… we are going to wait until the weekend for his general condition to improve further and then we will go into surgery…

DUKE HAS BEEN OPERATED THIS MORNING!!!!

FIRST WE FIXED HIS RAVAGED SKIN…
WE HAVE NOW FIXED HIS BROKEN FEMUR….
DUKE CONTINUES HIS TREATMENT AND RECOVERY!!

Update 14 January…

Over the weekend Duke moved to his beautiful foster home. Christina, his new foster mum will be in charge of making him recover trust in human beings.

He is totally recovered now from his physical injuries… we must now work on repairing his soul…

Please Help us continue rescue, Donate… Make it count.. Please help us save more lives like Duke´s …

Many thanks!

Viktor

P.S. After Duke is totally recovered he is going to need an extraordinary home. Please write to me on viktor@myletsadopt.com and tell me why you would be the perfect home for Duke…

  6. Liz from Montreal says:

My boy Beau once had a similar injury- an infection had completely removed the skin on a large section of his back thigh close to his tail. Everyday we went to the vet to clean the wound with warm water and keep it moist so that it could heal. My boy was in such pain! It took several weeks for the wound to heal and close completely. Duke’s condition is a lot worse. I do not know how he tolerates the excruciating pain he feels every second of every minute of every day! I pray that you can relieve his pain while you help him heal.
    Donated.

  7. Duke, you are such a brave boy. I hope you heal quickly and that you find a loving home to spend the rest of your days. I am sending a little something for your medical. Hugs❤️

If I didn’t already have 5 of my own, I would apply to adopt him. What a love! I thank the Universe that people like you exist, Viktor. You are a remarkable human being. Thank you for all that you and your team does to help the helpless and the voiceless.

  18. sarah pratley says:

You can only try and imagine what horrendous pain poor Duke must be in and the long road ahead of him to recovery, and he was so placid on the table. What a sweet little soul. You wonder how these poor animals get to be in such a terrible state. Thank God, for people like you Viktor, who go the extra mile to help these souls in need. I know you’ll do all you can for him. Have donated. xx

  30. Poor soul!! Thank God for all the people responsible for rescuing him and the medical staff that are doing their best to save him. Bless you all! I’ll be praying. He would probably fit perfect in my house with my two taille so Manx cats, but I live in Canada on a low income and can’t see how I could afford him. Hoping he finds a loving and forever home. Paying for his recovery. ♡♡

  31. Donated to Duke, with a lot of prayers for this little guy for a quick recovery & a wonderful home. Thank you Viktor & LAG.

  33. Kathy Wolff says:

Donated as much as I could. Will continue to monitor and donate as I am able. Thank you Viktor for helping this beautiful baby.

  34. Dearest Duke,

I am so sorry that you got to this state, I wish someone had stepped in sooner, but you are now in the best hands. LAG will look after you and in a couple of months, you will be in a loving home where those sad scared eyes are no more. You won’t be so scared and in so much pain that all you can do is watch the vets work around you. The times that will only lie that still is when you have a tummy full of food, warm and your new family giving you attention that you will lie there and let them. Please pull through, you have an amazing life ahead where there is no more pain, fear or despair. Just love, freedom and happiness. I myself am in a lot of pain, and I can’t work, so I have barely any money, but your desperate eyes made me cry so much (I still am) that I will donate as much as I can. I wish I could adopt you, but I am not allowed any pets due to my landlord, and if I could, I’m sure you would get on with my dog, who is lucky to live with my parents who love her very much. Please don’t give up, this isn’t the end Duke, we are all hoping for a speedy recovery and a loving home!

    Lots of love xxx

  35. This is horrendous. I’ve cried my eyes out thinking about the pain that this poor baby has had to endure. How painful this must be for him. I have sent a small donation, I wish it could be more. I am praying for you Duke. I pray that you will be comforted and that God will help to speed your healing.

Is he being any given pain medication? Will he need a skin graft? Just wondering what kind treatment he will need to get healed up. I follow your work and I know you do all that you can for these poor sweet animals. Thank you for caring for Duke and all of the other injured animals. Please keep us all updated on how Duke is doing.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

  39. I wish I was allowed to have a cat in my apartment. I would adopt him in a heartbeat unfortunately I cannot but I have donated to help him survive & finally be able to find a loving family and be free from such heartbreaking suffering

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Thank you very much Pamela… from the heart.

  41. Tabitha M. says:

Such sad eyes! He’s begging for help. Donated for Duke.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Many thanks Tabitha..

  42. Thank you so much for not giving up on him. I pray Duke will survive. I will make a very small contribution, but it’s all I can do right now. From Canada with love and gratitude…

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Thank YOU Anabela..

  43. Mariana Robles says:

I just donated and I will spread the word to my loved ones. Thank you so much for helping this beautiful kitty. I truly hope he gets better and heals. This broke my heart. I am sending good vibes and I would appreciate if we could get updates. I will gladly donate more when I can.

  44. I was not going to donate any money for a year os so because my 5 year old Yorkie needs to have both her back knees replaced and that will cost $8000. But I can still find some money to send to this poor little cat. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain this little guy is in. Like many other people who have commented this brought me to tears and that is rare for me. I hope this little trooper can survive this horrible injury.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your help Deborah… and good luck with your baby… well make sure Duke makes it through it..

  45. Leah Bartow says:

Aww. at 2.52 he looked like he was asking where are you going? poor guy. if i had spare to donate i would be. my poor boy is telling me to. i rescued him after him and his siblings were just tossed out of a car. rescues seem to be better cats cause they know hate before they know love. and they soak up that love.

  46. TheCatWhisperer says:

It said his pelvis was shattered? Is there anyway to pin the bone back together so he will be able to walk? Although I feed grain-free food to my ferel colony of 16 cats (which costs a fortune) and have two cats of my own I am still going to donate to help this guy out. If everyone in this country just gave your organization $1 that would be roughly $350 million. Think of how much good can be done with that much money and how little a $1 donation would effect the person donating.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Yes… we are going to operate him as soon as his condition has improved a little bit…

  47. Debbie Sanguedolce says:

Duke, you are NOT alone, you have so many who love you

  48. Lorraine Winson says:

    I’m still waiting moderation 🙁
Not that I mind Viktor – I know you are all busy.
How is Duke doing?……and I KNOW you wouldn’t leave him alone with his pain.
    Lx

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Thank you Lorraine… sorry for the delay..
Duke is doing better, it will take a while but skin is slowly building up.. I will update a new picture in a few mins…

  49. Charlie Pehl says:

Donated, get well Duke…thank you for taking him in, not very many would take this on, your blessed..

  50. What a beautiful boy he is, and how much he has suffered! I don’t even want to think of how his tail got that way. I sent what I could, and will try to send more next month. I wish I could take him, but I already have three rescue cats, the loves of my life, and live on disability, so it’s not possible. I will be waiting to see, when he’s better, which lucky person gets to give Duke a forever home!! I love you, Duke! <3

  51. I made a small donation for now. I wish I could afford to donate more, but having had emergency open heart surgery and three months of unpaid sick leave, I am barely getting back on my feet right now. But how could I turn my back on someone as sweet and as fortunate as Duke? Such a trusting look on his face as he was being treated. I’ve seen injuries that bad while working in a 24 hour vet hospital that treated animals for almost all of our area’s rescue groups and for Good Samaritans who brought injured animals to us for care. May Duke have a miraculous recovery, and my the hands of his caretakers be steady as they help him through this horrible ordeal.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your help Susie… thank you..

  52. Also: I agree with you that Manuka Honey is an amazing substance. So soothing and so quick to help to rebuild tissue. <3

  53. What an incredibly sad story. Hopefully Duke will fully recover. In which country did this happen?

  54. This just breaks my heart. God please let little Duke pull through. He has endured so much pain and he doesn’t understand what is happening to him. Let him know nothing but love for the rest of his life. He never asked for this, he only wanted love. I don’t understand how humans can be so cruel and how they can torture sweet little animals like you. They are so innocent. I among many would love to take care of this little darling and give him a good home with lots of love. I have two other cats, but I already love this little guy. God bless the Drs that are trying to save him. They will have a special place in Heaven. I can’t donate right now, but will ty to next week.

  55. I want to hold this sweet baby so badly, I just put my beautiful cat callie to sleep 1 month ago because of cancer and I just don’t don’t understand what gave Duke the will power to go on but i will will help your cause with a donation and will pray for the pain to go away.

  56. Small donation sent for sweet little Duke. I hope he starts feeling better very soon. Oh, how much I wish I won the lotto to shower you with money. Thank you for what you do for them.

  57. Here’s 10$ for Duke or the next little patient in line ……with all my love and many good wishes to all

  58. If I didn’t already have 3 cats I would happily take Duke 🙁 poor baby. Such a tough little guy

  59. Donated. Please let me know if you still need a home for this little guy, I would love to bring him into my home with my two rescues and little feral angel.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks Shawn… it does look like he has found a home already.. I will make the announcement once it´s official..

  60. Pamela Doss says:

Duke , your remind me of my Hobbes. Praying that all will heal and you will find your forever home. Donated.

  61. Lorraine Winson says:

A home already. Duke you are going to be the handsomest cat….no one will ever guess that you arent a Manx…..well….once that bottom covers up they wont! Thanks again Viktor and the team, and all the bees that provided the Manuka of course.

  62. Sweet Duke has stolen my heart with his big beautiful eyes! I have donated what i can to help him. I am also sending all the positive healing vibes and love i can to him. Thank you Viktor and everyone who helps for the awesome work you do.
Please keep us all updated on his progress! Much love from Me and my furry family <3

  63. Sashko Kostoski says:

I am still waiting for moderation?
How is Duke now? You are doing a wonderful job Viktor. We would be very happy to see some videos if it is possible from this sweet boy and his improvment. Best regards

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Sorry… approved! :-)…
Ill upload a new video tomorrow… he´s doing incredible well, you won´t believe your eyes.. 🙂

  64. connie lawhorne says:

I have prayed for Duke every night since I saw his first video. I cried for a long time after watching it. He is an extraordinary cat and I know he is getting great care so he can heal. I an so looking forward to seeing a video update on his progress. Bless each and every one of you for all that you do for these precious animals.

  65. Lorraine Winson says:

Christina has a beautiful face and Im sure her soul matches it. She will heal Duke…….but Viktor, do we have a picture of his bottom, now it is mended? 🙂
    Lx

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Lorraine.. her button is perfect, totally recovered, he needs no cures of any kind. I´m putting together a video where you will see the life that awaits him..
