URGENT HELP NEEDED!
This is 1 of 2 Shar Pei’s that have been abandoned in a garden for many months, A gentleman has been feeding them but now they will be put to sleep (KILLED) on monday if homes are not found.
This is what I read on my computer screen last weekend.
It was Saturday afternoon. The dogs were going to die on Monday. I had no idea where the dogs were, but something had to be done.
The problem is, I’m on a holiday here, I don’t have our team to assist, I don’t even have a local phone…
I decided to wait a bit and follow the thread to see if anyone came forward.
Nobody did…
Fast forward two days and I’m standing in a parking lot next to my new friends Mark and Yvonne, founders of Pets In Spain, a small animal rescue close to Alicante doing everything they can to save as many as they possibly can. The have driven the Sharpei’s, Arnie and Champion to hand them over to me.
My first impression: FCUK!!!
Both dogs are in a terrible condition. They have obviously been fed regularly, but everything else is just wrong, very wrong. They are both totally infested, covered in ticks. The initial suspition is Leishmania and Erlichia (in the end only Erlichia is confirmed), one of them, Champion, has a terrible skin condition, the other one, Arnie shows very visible discomfort in his front legs. After a quick drive to the city and a through check up by the vet here is the situation as it stands:
1. Champion:
– Positive for Erlichiosis (he is being treated)
– Champion has a widespread skin condition, possibly caused by a massive allergic reaction to the food he was being given. We are going to identify what is the problem and have this treated.
2. Arnie:
– Positive for Erlichiosis (he is being treated)
– Arnie needs an operation for Entropion, a condition in which the eyelid rolls against the eye that can result in cornea ulcer and blindness
– Arnie has Arthrosis on both his front legs. This condition is extremely painful and needs to have an arthroscopy performed inmediately.
So, this is the situation, Shar-peis are obviously extremely delicate dogs, and these two beauties are in real trouble. I cannot think of anyone that would adopt them in the condition they are, furthermore, they are both in a great deal of pain and discomfort and their conditions need urgent treatment. Erclichia is potentially lethal, Entropion and Arthrosis are crippling. This cannot wait.
Let’s give Arnie and Champion the gift of a new life. Please join us and help us save this two beautiful boys by contributing to their Chipin today… All our sponsors will be informed of Arnie and Champion’s evolution on a regular basis.
Many thanks!
