It’s been close to three years since I received Cagri’s first letter.

It pretty much read something like this:

Dear Viktor
I’ve been following the work of Let’s Adopt! for months. Just wanted to know I’m here for you and the group.
Whatever you need… just ask.

(or something to that effect).

It didn’t take me long to put Cagri’s willingness to the test. Her first mission was to rescue an elderly cocker spaniel that for over a year and a half had been kept prisoner inside the trunk of a car with barely 50 cms living space.  The person keeping the dog in that condition was an elderly woman, mentally unstable. I knew the moment she saw me she would freak out and would make a scene. Chances are I would not be able to control myself and we would end up at the Police Station. I knew Cagri would handle it better. And she did!. Thanks to Cagri Lara was freed from her horrific confinement and rushed to the vet for treatment. Sadly those few days of freedom were to be her last. She had advanced cancer that has spread to the bones.

Cagri’s second mission was to take care of a paralyzed cat. Over the following weeks Cagri applied herself fully to the care of that kitty, massages, hydrotherapy. Slowly Paris recovered sensitivity in her legs at first, movements followed, a few weeks later the kitty was walking. She flew to the USA shortly afterwards.

Cagri earned her wings, and she got a nickname, “The Cat Whisperer”.

Over the last three years many tens of animals have passed through Cagri’s home, either for a short stays or for longer spaces of time. Cagri’s loyalty, commitment and unbelievable dedication made her and essential piece of the Let’s Adopt Network.

Cagri’s story is just one of them. I could tell you similar stories about our fosters in Turkey, Germany, Bulgaria, Indonesia, the USA… and each and everyone would be as remarkable as the next. Stories of bravery, of extraordinary generosity, of going beyond the call of duty. Let’s Adopt! is a network of extraordinary people. Even if usually I get most of the compliments the truth is that none of us is more important than the other. Anyone involved in our work, rescuers, fosters, adoptants, contributors to the Simba Fund, it is thanks to all of you that the magic keeps happening.

To all of you… Thank you.

For the Animals

Viktor
