This is an unfinished story.

Vanilla was rescued from the infamous Bolluca forest in Istanbul.

For those who don’t know what Bolluca is, imagine this, a massive open air semi-forested extension outside of Istanbul where Municipality headed by Kadir Topbas disposes hundreds, thousands of dogs a year.

Yes… dogs.  No garbage, dogs.

As if this act was not despicable enough the dogs are disposed as puppies after having had their reproductive organs extracted by some of the worst veterinarians in the world.

There is no rehoming effort, there is no coordination of volunteer program, dogs are garbage and they are treated as such.

So this is where we found Vanilla. In the garbage, looking for a crumb of bread to eat.

Vanilla, was not alone. She was laying down next to her sister, Karamel. Karamel was gravely ill, we did all we could to save her but in the end she didn’t make it.

This short video is the story of a moment in time. A moment that marks the beginning of a new life for this incredible dog.

Vanilla is a wonderfully social dog, loving, friendly with all animals and humans (well, maybe she is a bit sceptical about cats sometimes). A pup that was dropped and was rescued just at the moment when she was about to give up.

Vanilla has been staying with us for months. It took us a while to start a search for a home as we had so many other emergencies to solve, but the day has come when Vanilla must find a home.

Please help us, adopt Vanilla or help us spreading her throughout our incredible network.

Conditions for adoption:

1. MUST have a dog right now.
2. Vanilla will live in the house with the family.. no yard, no chains, no nothing.
3. Vanilla will be fed a raw diet.  www.rawfed.com

She was found dumped in the forest as a puppy… her sister was with her.
We named them Vanilla and Karamel. Karamel died shortly after the rescue, she had distemper.
Vanilla was not affected. She has spent the last six months in one of our pensions. Is time for her to have a home..

  8. irene , barry says:

i wish vanilla to be happy for the rest of her life , bless her , bless you all for what you do ,

  9. i have never heard of raw diets, it sounds like it’s good for the dog, but as a vegan i would have a hard time doing something like that. shame, cause i would consider adopting this magnificent creature! i have a male dog here who looks like they could be littermates! just beautiful!

  10. I hope Vanilla finds a good home. There’s so many dogs there, how do you make a decision on which ones to rescue? It must be difficult.
What exactly is the ‘Municipality headed by Kadir Topbas? What is that or who is that? So they just round up a lot of dogs and dump them there? Why are the vets dumping them there like that?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

How do we make a decision?
It’s very difficult but we try to be as logical as possible. We rescue those who are too weak to survive out there. We rescue those that are injured and sick, also those that due to their size simply can’t find any food (i.e. terriers).
The Municipality Im talking about is the Istanbul Municipality. The vets are the municipal vets working for animal control.

  11. Rosemary Gould says:

Lets Adopt does such wonderful work!!

  12. I so losing so much faith in man kind -most people really suck and that is all over the world. Awe are becoming such a cold society –God bless you Vanilla and God bless you Viktor

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

You are not giving up until I do…

      Deal?

  13. I know it’s expensive but do you guys or others take and leave any food out for those in the forest that are left there? I think I’ve read before that there’s many of them out there.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

of course we do Dora… this is how they survive, because we deliver about 1 ton of chicken a week.

  14. That was a stupid question I asked. (In my mind I knew you guys would.)

  15. Kelly Christian says:

Good work Victor….I was angry and called you greedy and a liar for posting a Humane Watch video…I couldn’t see how anyone who really loved animals would help them…In the US PETA has done much to close puppy mills, rescue animals in research facilities..rodeos..anything cruel…that humane watch wants to protect .PETA doesn’t run shelters…But they do tell people to adopt only from shelters who euthanize,,,,because there are just to many…and the streets mean only suffering here…I shared your China video with someone very active with PETA..I hope it is widely shown peace.
