Alexander
Alexander

This is one of those cases that take absolute priority the moment we come across them.
Alexander was a healthy Turkish stray trying to survive in the streets of Izmir until a few weeks ago when a car hit him and left him unconscious on the side of the road.

He woke up and tried to make do with his broken leg but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t step on it. Then, finally, an “animal lover” took him to the vet.

Well.. not exactly… what that “animal lover” did was to call the municipality and ask them to come and collect the animal. The Municipality picked up the dog, took him to their rehabilitation center and instead of “rehabilitating”, instead of fixing the broken leg they did what the vast majority of municipal veterinarians do when they find an animal with a broken buy xanax wholesale leg: They cut the leg.

Any private veterinarian would have fixed the bone, put a plate on it, fix the leg. Municipal vets dont act this way. Cutting and sewing its easier.

A few days later, with the wound still fresh and in terrible pain Alexander has been thrown out on to the streets of Izmir.

We have just rescued him this afternoon. Tonight he will sleep on a warm place, a pension where he wont have to try to run away from the kids that tortured him just because he was weak.

We need to find a foster home for Alex, in Izmir or Istanbul, and a final home for him, either in Turkey or overseas.

Help Alex live the rest of his life with dignity. Adopt this amazing animal, your entire life will be transformed by this single act of kindness..

I am so full of anger!!!!, firstly for the scum that left him on the road, and secondly for the municipality for taking off his leg instead of fixing it!!!! Shame on them both!!!!
Good luck in finding Alex his rightful place in a loving home. xx

    I second Lynda’s comment!…

Do you think that Alexander could live with cats? (You probably don’t know yet, since you just rescued him… but I’m asking anyway)

I don’t think this torture to animals will ever end!!! I adopted a dog two years ago whose ears were cut off by the homeless kids. I live in Urla,Izmir and I’m willing to take care of him until you find a final home. We have a big yard. We have lots of cats that we feed in the garden but i don’t think it will be a problem. My cell phone is 0-532-xxxxxx. Please contact me if you still need a foster home.

To everyone considering adopting a three legged dog. I have a tripod cat and recently adopted a tripod dog. Both are just fine and run as fast or sometimes faster than the others.
So, don’t let that me an obstacle. Alexander will be fine w/out that leg.
What he needs more than a leg is a loving home.
PLEASE someone open their home to this cutie!!

Misha, I have one question for you: do three legged dogs have difficulties climbing or going down stairs?

  7. Catherine,
no – not at all. With new amputees, there’s a adjustment period, but they’ll eventually figure out how to balance their weight.
My dog’s missing the front left leg also and it only took him days to figure it out. Now, after 5 months, he’s racing me up the stairs (and wins!!!!…lol)
Look me up on facebook, you can see videos of Ouzo there.

  8. I am so pleased that this boy was removed from ‘harm’s way’ and rescued.

  9. Was he finaly adopted ? I would love to wellcome him in my home but need to know about procedures as I live in France. Thank you for letting me know

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Yes.. he was adopted. In any case I will be in touch with you by email, we have cases that need attention and you could be of great help.
      Will be in touch..

Here’s a tip for all those wanting to adopt a dog who has just lost a limb. Use a simple shopping bag (cloth) when training them to walk again esp. stairs. Usually they find out themselves, but you can support them physically or when they get desperate or when they panic. Show them the bag with one hole cut into it and put the remaining limb through the hole. Then you can walk them and lift the affected part of the body and help them to find their balance.

Hey you doggies in a bag and their humans:
Have fun and find the love you deserve!
