Picture this scenario…

1. You rescue a dog, care for him and restore him back to health.
2. Your trusted veterinarian tells you that he has found a great foster home for this dog. A good client of his, a place where the dog will be well until a final family is found.
3. Your vet is lying. Instead he drives to an undisclosed location and releases the dog, who is never seen again.

This may sound like a crazy nightmarish scenario but this scenario turned into a reality last week when we found out that someone that, until then had been one of our trusted vets, did just that with our dog Bella.

His name is Onur Salih Karadağ, his clinic, Cizmeli Kedi

To add insult to injury, after weeks of misdirection Onur Salih Karadağ called us and told us to come to his clinic, that he would return Bella to us. Then he did the unthinkable… he gave us another dog!.. A Bella-like dog as he put it!

Here is a picture of the poor animal he tried to make pass as our Bella.

The poor dog was terrified, and had a tag mark on his ear.  This was not our dog.

There are no words to describe the indignation of Let’s Adopt! and its members in front of this incredible situation.

Let’s Adopt! is, today, a worldwide reference, a global animal rescue network. This hasn’t happened overnight, and certainly not by chance.

Endless hours of work, an honest and direct approach and above all, the strong bond we have built amongst our community.

Today we are going to rely in our community to launch an investigation into the practices of certain members of the veterinary society, starting by Onur Salih Karadag at Cismeli Kedi.

Should any of you wish to share any related-experience you are free to contact me directly on viktor@myletsadopt.com or to leave a comment on this blog.

  1. Wow–what a terrible story! I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of Bella.

I wanted to mention a related incident that happened to my friends last week. They were fostering a female purebred dog in Istanbul. The dog’s original owner refused to let them spay it, but they were planning to ask that the future adopter do so. (Wrong–they should have spayed the dog, no matter what the owner said).

Anyway, the fosterers found an adopter in Izmir, so they and the original owner drove there last week to drop off the dog. The adopter had claimed to be a “positive trainer” who wanted an agility dog. Instead, he turned out to work at a huge German Shepherd breeding facility, with at least 80 dogs and puppies. They dropped off the female so the adopter could get acquainted, and went to lunch. During lunch, they realized the facility was actually a puppy mill and the guy wanted the female for a breeder.

When they returned to the facility to take back the dog, the adopter claimed that the dog had “run away.” My friends launched a search. They were pretty sure the dog was being hidden somewhere on the property. They left to get the police, and at that point, they think the adopter really DID let the dog go. After much searching, they found the dog in a field that evening.

She is now back in Istanbul with the fosterers, and they are going to keep her.

  2. Mariya Williamson says:

Speechless.. Why would this vet do this? What’s in it for him? Have you any clues?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

I am convinced is common practice…
Many people pick up stray animals and leave them on vet clinics. They leave without paying their bills and never again can be contacted.
Many vets try to rehome the animals but this is an impossible task.
I am 100% sure many release the animals.
In this case this vet was very unlucky… why? because this dog was under the protection of Let’s Adopt!..
We spoke to the foster, many many times, assured us the dog was so happy with him, he would like to adopt him for good…
      It was all a lie.
      Tomorrow heads will roll.

  3. Mutlu Jones says:

I can not believe what I am reading 🙁 you can’t even trust a vet. I agree with Misha let’s ask them where they dump it. !!!

  4. OMG! What a disaster 🙁 I think my heart just hit the floor. Sending Prayers that Bella will somehow be found…

  5. Beverley Hill says:

What the hell is happening, if you can,t trust a vet then who the hell can you trust ,this is a disgusting thing to do, he should be made to show you where he dumped Bella ,perhaps maybe someone can find her, this is a disgusting cruel act , and he should be taken to court and prosecuted for this evil act , and plastered all over facebook and other sites ,so no one will go to him or trust this man.

  6. Silvia Özler says:

I also think it is common practice. I had to go through an ordeal like this myself and I still can’t understand what their point is, only to make us lose trust in them!

  7. lynda chabane says:

OMG I cant believe what I have just read!!!!!! Has this idiot actually admitted to what has happened to Bella???? How could a professional act with such callousness, when you have entrusted him with one of our babies!!!! I am totally sickened by this now, and very, very worried about Bella’s whereabouts. I am becoming increasingly sickened by mans treatment of animals…she was saved, brought back to health…..for what!!! to be cast aside once again. Poor Bella 🙁 This has really upset me, and as for the vet, if I were to face him I would willingly slap his face…and coming from someone who has manners, that is very hard for me to admit.
Did you take the other poor little one Viktor??
My faith in human nature to do good really is stretched to the limit at times!! 🙁

  8. Suzanne Richard says:

Massive breach of trust. Let us not forget that vets, like doctors, can be rather indifferent to their patient. Some barely passed the grade academically and otherwise. A good vet cares.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

We are going to look into this..

  9. Linda Szymoniak says:

This is just horrible! This man should NOT be allowed to care for animals, if he is capable of doing something this horrible! Good luck in getting justice for Bella!

  10. NO!!!!Sweet Bella,I am so upset over this.Maybe a miracle will occur and someone will find her. What a bad man,I am heartbroken. So sorry.

  11. Again – I am so ashamed to be called a human 🙁

  12. No words. Just disgust and heartache for Bella – if she is alone, abandoned – What a heartless vet.

  13. Why? Why? Why? Did the vet think she was being kept in boarding for too long of a time? Kept caged up too much? Did the vet think she wouldn’t get adopted and so better off free to roam? Did the vet give you a special rescue rate and then needed the room for a full paying client? Did Bella now healthy become a dog he could make money with it sold to a lab? Why in the world would he take and release a paying client’s dog? Where the police helpful with this issue?

How will you now go about checking out new vets to make sure they are not the kind of people to repeat this?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Joni.. the vet only had Bella for one day.. he then found an alleged foster home and released her.

The incredible thing is, we spoke to him and the alleged foster many many times.. they kept on saying the dog was so happy and that they would love to keep her..

      It was all a lie.

  14. Why won’t he tell you where he left her? What happen to the other dog he tried to give you? Can you not go to police? This story truly upsets me. I think it is very important to have a long established relationship with one’s vet. I have worked with mine for years to the point that she will meet with me on Sunday or after hours when the clinic is closed. There must be something you can do!

  15. i can’t believe this! a vet of all people!!

  16. I pray Bella is living in safety with someone kind who found her. It is unreal that a vet would do such a thing. I usually say nothing surprises me anymore, however this case does.
Go after him to the full extent of the law. Take his license if you can, this person should not be allowed to care for animals.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      I promise you I will…

  17. This week has me shaking my head over the lack of care so called “professionals” have for the animals they work with. I think the world has gone crazy, vets dropping dogs off in the middle of nowhere and cities trying to pull dogs out of homes where they are cared for to deposit them in shelters! I do not know how much more “humanity” I can take. Makes me want to take my dogs and cats and go live in seclusion! You apparently can’t trust even those who are sworn to heal them.

  18. I don’t understand this at all. For what reason did he put Bella out somewhere? Did he ever fess up to where he sent her? I’d have punched him out cold.

  19. Christine Rendon says:

My jaw just dropped!!1 I am shocked by this vets behavior. He knew this was not a dog that was dumped at his facility. Bella was with Lets Adopt. Yours is a reputable rescue so I do not understand his actions. I am really praying that there is a miracle and Bella is found. Roll those heads Victor!

  20. OMG what kind of vet would do something like that????They have NO business being in any kind of animal care business.I’d have him closed down! and he would loose his license!!. Actually I think I might put a HIT on him!!!! What a S.O.B>first class!

  21. Laura Saavedra Kobak says:

omg, this is so heartbreaking – I can’t get Bella’s face out of my mind. This is such a travesty. I pray for a miracle which is what is needed to find her again. As for the vet, his actions are unfathomable and he should feel the backlash from this act of cruelty.

  22. Viktor,

So sorry to hear….. how heartbreaking.. and enfuriating!

My first thought is to report the vet to the licensing board. I have a friend that did just that when a vet misdiagnosed her beloved dog, resulting in death, and then tried to cover it up. He was reprimanded and ended up having his license suspended for some period of time.

Personally, I think endangering the lives of those that you are sworn to help & protect is grounds for license revocation.

  23. Why the f-cuk he does that for??
I do not understand his motive?!!

  24. How do we know that he released the dog, may be he killed the dog or the dog died of his mal-practice>>

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Sujen.. no.. he didn’t kill the dog. Released him into the wild.
First he told us he placed the dog on a foster family… when the truth became too obvious he admitted to release her into the fields… when they couldn’t find her they tried to give us a similar dog.

      A crazy story.

  25. Vicktor- that doesn’t make sense. I believe that most Vets are in the industry because they love & want to help animals, and it is another 5 steps past that to maliciously drop a dog off where it could be harmed. I am a medium & animal communicator, and have found every dog i have ever looked for with the exception of a dog who went missing in December in New york, that was abducted and given away as a Christmas present. I can find out an amazing amount of information on your dog, and there is no secrets in the universe, everything is recorded. If you want to find out more, send me an email or call me- RosezellasWay.com . I am not making this up. We can find what happened to your dog.
I have handled several cases that a person acts as a foster & nurses a dog back to health, only to have that dog not get along as well with the “new” adoptive parents and get lost (many different reasons there). The Foster mother feels very guilty, responsible and tries to make it right. I just worked with a dog in northern Arizona that was spotted in many different towns, and looking very bad. We finally found the dog hanging outside a Walmart, 2 months after I was called in on the case. I can give you whether or not the dog is alive, how they are CURRENTLY feeling, current surroundings, and some geographical data. I am sure that there is MORE to the story.
Good luck & I say a blessing & a prayer for your puppy. You have channelled the energy from the anger in a positive way, Everything happens for a reason, and the more I work with the universal energy the more I see that.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Ann Marie… I’m afraid its not the first case.
People rescue dogs, leave them at the vet and then they don’t come pick them up.
Vets all over Turkey are left with tens of cages filled with ownerless dogs.

This particular vet found a way to create some space.

  26. Maria Medina says:

Why won’t the vet say what he did with the dog? Or why he did whatever he did?? I always thought vets loved animals. This is so sad. =”(

  27. Doesn’t he say where he left Bella? If you insist he may say where she is. than you may go and look for her… it’s terrible! I will tell all my friends to stay away from that vet. he left a little puppy out and now he can sleep at nights? wow.! such an humanity.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

The dog was dumped somewhere on the open spaces.. the vet dumped her unneutered.

Chances are she was made pregnant, picked up by a municipality, neutered and dumped in another location.

I pray she will but chances are she will never be found. There are tens of thousands of dogs roaming the streets of Turkey. I hope she is alive at least.

  28. mualla efe says:

  29. Viktor Larkhill says:

Adrian, your comments are so absurd that they desserve no further reply.

  30. Viktor Larkhill says:

Susan was a foster home for Bella.
She dumped two of her dogs and our foster at the vet.
The vet then disposed of the three dogs.

There.. in three lines… the full story.

  31. Leila Nashabat says:

These people are sick, sick in the head, do not believe them, if you do not see the people in person DO NOT BELIEVE THEM, WE LIVING WITH SICK PEOPLE AMONGST US. I AM PRAYING THAT BELLA WILL BE FOUND.
the poor innocent animal, human beings sucks i just hate them!!!

  32. Nathalie Thélamon says:

Unbelievable! But in the same time, everything remains possible here. This vet must absolutly be fired from the vet association. Let’s adopt as you write is powerful enough now to investigate and inform the National veterinarian asociation. I don’t understand this vet’s motivations … Did he do this to sell Bella to someone else? What was his interest to release her? Some years ago, when I was living in Besiktas, my dog broke his leg and stayed lame because of his “veterinarian” who appears later to be a false one! His name was Tolga. I will try to find back his complete name and maybe you can etablish a black list for vets?

  33. I’d like to ask a question to ADRIAN!

    Adrian,
If Viktor Larkhil is only a website, how can you explain this?

I’m holding a three legged golden puppy right now, he was dumped into a garbage area with his remainin three legs and without any vaccination???? He’s been fighting against distemper. I’ve been trying to get him back to life for at least 10 days..

Can a website find me to have this dog?Can a website recommend treatment? Can a website get angry when you do something wrong? Can a website be always there when you call? Can a website suggest some vets to consult?

Can a website celebrate the good news with you?

So, just shut up..You don’t know anything, even the least bit..

  34. DEBZ POWER says:

THAT WAS DISGRACEFUL THE VET SHOULD BE STRUCK OFF THEY ARE A DISGRACE WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING :0(

  35. This is not a vet ……….this is a uncaring monster who should be sacked immediately. Will you be able to find a home for the poor dog he traded in ?

  36. Piner & Adrian………..I do not believe one word of what you suggest so there !!

  37. I wish someone out there is kind enough to take Bella and care for her with love… *crossing fingers*

  38. I’m just speechless. If you cannot trust your veterinarian who can you trust? Poor little Bella. I hope someone kind found her and took her home with them. What he did is unforgivable. Shame on him.

  39. cyndi Robinson says:

This totally makes me sick! My heart is broken and tears fall as I type this. I just dont understand the cruelty of so many people. God bless you Bella I pray that you are found and loved. Its just not right.

  40. Why did they keep lying? That is just pure evil. They only had to say one word and Bella would be taken back by Let’s Adopt. Why did they not do that instead of dumping her somewhere. It makes me sick and those people are so shameful.I pray by some miracle we find Bella again.Poor Bella.

  41. Victor, please tell us how we can help to have informations from this man ! we don’t give up for Bella !

  42. Diana Nemtseva says:

What a disgusting thing to do! No scruples, no conscience, nothing! I hope next time this Onur guy takes his kid to the family trusted paediatrician, he drives it out and throws it away. Sick!!!! No words, only shame for the human kind.

  43. margie byrd says:

Glad to hear that the media is getting involved (for a myriad of reasons, including making EVERYONE aware of HOW it happened i.e. the vet, and personally I hope he is seen taking down his shingle!). Hope Bella’s face becomes so familiar (and her story) that she is found soon and returned to her rescuers!! Hope this goes GLOBAL! Best of luck!!

  44. 🙁

  45. Teresa Turner says:

What on earth would he do such a thing? This is horrible, poor Bella. What about the puppy he tried to pass off as Bella? She looks terrified, is she with you? Away from harm?

    This is sickening.

  46. I just read his story on his fb page….Viktor he is putting all the blame on you….You need to go after this NUT!!

  47. CALL ME!! I CAN HELP YOU FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO BELLA – WHERE SHE IS TODAY>>>520-749-4182 Ann RosezellasWay.com

  48. Louann Smith says:

I am sickened by this terrible story. I do not understand.

  49. Hi Anne,

How will you be able to help find Bella? I see that the number you provide is a US number. Are you an animal communicator by chance? Or a pet detective? I do believe that some animal communicators can help locate animals, even if an animal is lost across the world. So if you can do this then I really hope you help Viktor and his team find Maxi and Bella. I can only imagine the absoulte terror and confusion these two pups are feeling – thats if they are still alive 🙁

  51. barnett,sabine says:

i am so deeply shocked,a VET a blinking VET who takes a OATH does things like that,i am sat here in total disbelive crying what sort of bastard does things like that,he should be taken to a foreign contry and dumped.

turkey is another country struck of my holiday list, looking at that i wont travel anywhere anymore as all countries are as bad

  52. Genevieve Powell says:

This is an outrage!!! he knows what happened!!!
I am sick over all this abuse to these young sweet innocence pets

  53. hi
i think same happend to my Dog.
the name of the Vet-Doc is Birhan Karakaya
his Clinic is laravet.in Fethiye/ Turkey.

  54. We have a similar case happening in Fethiye right now. Sad and shocking 🙁
