Karam has left the building
Karam has left the building

Do you know what this picture is?
This is a wonderful woman, Ayse Arzik taken her rescued dog, old Karam to the airport to be flown to a family half way around the world.
This is a great Turkish dog, Karam. A dog that NOBODY IN THIS COUNTRY WANTED.
We tried… and tried… for six months. We sent messages about him until you were bored of seeing his cute face on your computer screen.
But YOU did nothing.
Nobody moved a finger for this animal. Nobody offered to foster him, nobody offered to adopting him.
Nobody. NOBODY!!!
Karam is now on a plane, flying to spend the last few years of life away from this great country of us, and as far away as possible from Turkish animal lovers as we could possibly send him.

Karam flying
Karam flying

Goodbye Karam, my friend. You are the four legged living proof that there is no such a thing as animal lovers here, that no matter how much progress we make and how many wonderful people join our group, the turkish animal lover community is still a completely uneducated and selfish bunch, I’m even tempted to say, a bunch of idiots.

Karam, it is because of you that we do what we do.

Send us a postcard, will you?

glad he is going to a loving home. thanks Ayse Arzik, let’s adopt and viktor”

  2. Göknur Özkul says:

I’m happy for Karam now, but I’m completely surprised and upset about your expressions, which ıncludes racistic sounds. I thought to be in a group, which is free of borders, religion, countries, language etc., because to love an animal means for me, love and respect all beings in the universe. I know you from this group and appreciate totaly your activities, except your racistic and differensive expressions..You don’t know me, who I am, how I live, how many FOURLEG-partners I have in my life, at home, how many on the street, how many rescued and located to adopting-families (just with personal effort) and I won’t tell those to you! And also I won’t tell you, how many French – English- German – American citizen I met here in Marmaris, who mistreat or leave their pets on the street when they leave this country. I will only tell you, please to judge humans refering their heart-spirit..whatever you call..but not their citizenship-religion-language etc…What is this yaa?: Turkish animal lovers: 0 /German animal lovers: 2 ??? A football game???? Is it so cheap?Ha?
Vİctor, please tell me that I misunderstood everything and you have a huge heart and intelligence enough to NOT being a RACİST…

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Goknur… you misunderstood everything…
please dont forget that the vast majority of our members are turkish.. and that 90% of the animals given in adoption in this group are adopted in Turkey.
Also, read that I wrote, with exceptions.
I did not say ALL… I said the majority.
And the majority it is.. the majority of animal lovers in this Turkey are complete idiots. Obviously you are not. The majority is. Sorry.

      1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Actually, look, I just rehomed a cat in Istanbul.. to a wonderful turkish couple who are obviously not as idiotic as the majority Im referring in my post…

  3. trinida lydia says:

great job Viktor and Ayse Arzik!
i’m very happy for this cute little creatures now have a forever loving home!

  4. This anti-Turkish identity underlined in your sentences seem a bit disturbing actually… You can not blame people so generaously, this is really not good… And you can not consider yourself as a person who is trying to create love and respect for all living beings when still you underline so much disrespect and anger and blames in your words…

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Well.. get involved and start helping improve the situation. ..

  5. sujen maloney says:

Which country he is flying to Viktor??

Viktor might sound discriminating in his words but we all know the majority of Turkish population is not made up of animal lovers. And majority of the animal lovers, are not very devoted to the cause, but only feel sorry when faced with abuse, post sad remarks here and there, I name them ‘keyboard heroes”.

If Turkish animal lovers were so involved, would it have been really so hard at least to foster “Karam” for sometime..

But Viktor, I would still not call them “idiots”, I think they have enough intelligence. I will call them(us) either “ignorant” or “incompassionate”.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

When it comes to words there are so many choices.
My choice is idiots. No point in being politically correct when you are dealing with the kind of stuff I deal with.
The majority of turkish animal lovers are idiots. There are some exceptions, most of them part of this group, the rest? they should not be allowed to have a dog..
      there you go..

  6. Pam Davis says:

Well stated Viktor. I know, when someone like you, who so actively LIVES his life working hard at saving animals, comes across such ‘posers’ all the time (in the USA is what we call people who want to say a bunch of good things on their posts but never really do anything to make a difference in the world).

I do understand your frustration, and find it sad that there are so many uncompassionate people in Turkey.

  7. lynda chabane says:

Well done to that very special person, who did show compassion and open their heart and home to beautiful Karam, when the overwhelming majority of Turkish citizens could not, they simply do not care!! I have to agree with every word Viktor has spoken. Yes there are those in Turkey who are genuine animal lovers, however it is such a small minority unfortunately. Those few however, could grow in numbers if only they were as dedicated as Viktor, spread the word amongst your fellow countrymen that the torture of innocent lives has to stop…Turkey has such a bad reputation for its treatment of animals, its time to change that surely, for the good of the country. I am generally suprised and shocked that no-one could have offered this sweet dog a home in its own country, even temporarily. The fact that Karam has been adopted abroad says it all doesnt it???!!!
I share Viktors contempt for all those Turkish citizens who treat their countries animals as if they were nothing more than disposable problems, fit only for torture, neglect and murder!!
I praise anyone who helps the plight of any animal in need, we just need more of us, especially in Turkey.

  8. Göknur Özkul says:

If you could stop to masturbate for a minute, you would understand what I mean..(I think Vİctor did it) What I am saying and doing myself is, do what you believe to make a difference in this world, but shut up and dont categorize, blame or look down the others, which will only feed your ego.
Will it be not idiotic, if I create a list like:
Frenchs are bad, because to prepare liver pate they feed the goose by torturing them.
Chinese are bad, because they eat dogs and cats..
Canadians are bad, because they kill the baby seals brutaly..
Norwegians are bad, because they kill whales and dolphines…
US-citizens are bad, because their majority supported a government, who killed a lot of people in Irak and other countries .etc..
FOr example, when I meet someone, who BOUGHT a dog DOberman-Labrador-Pekinua etc. I try to make a conversation avoiding to be didactic, about shelters, how beautiful and intelligent a street dog or cat can be, how many of them needs a home..because most of them does not know..this can make difference..but If I start the conversation like: “You stupid, didn’t you know………..” Do you think, he would listen to me?
Well, ladies, who wrote here, you are not different than the ladies here in local shelters, which are my only reason to not spend my time there, because they also speak all day, about who is bad, who did this, blaming, complainig, judging…I only help them when they need my personal help..Otherwise I bring the cats around my area for sterilisation, host them for one night at home, try to educate people about animals, trying to find families for them, helping immediately when I see a hurt-hungry-hopeless dog-cat-any kind of animal..And doing all of those activities by shutting up, and avoiding blaming the majority..:) (By the way, I never had anything to do with the majority anyway:)
    With my best, smiling regards:)

  9. Viktor, I admire you for all the work you do and for speaking the truth, even if it’s not pretty.

I feel a bit guilty now realizing that I could’ve had offered to adopt or foster Karam.
I remember that you mentionned that he was a special case for you because he reminded you of Simba… I guess I felt a little intimidated, or maybe I feared rejection, I don’t know. I can’t remember. But that’s silly… I shouldn’t have felt this way. After all, I’m not one of those fake ”animal lovers” you are talking about… I genuinely love and want to protect animals. I don’t discriminate on age or breed.

Now I’m just glad that Karam is in a safe place.

  10. Silvia Özler says:

Göknur, I agree with what you say. I can identify with what you do because I do the same thing in Adana. Of course we are outnumbered by non-animal lovers and by people who pretend to be animal lovers but are not. I think this is what Viktor is so frustrated about. And there is not just one Karam; I know of thirty little dogs that can be adopted at this very moment, only in Adana. I am taking care of one right now. These puppies are all ready to end up in the shelter and die of the first illness they catch. If they survive it is even worse, they will stay there forever or be thrown to the street where hunger and danger rule. I just know that I do my best to help these dogs be happy and healthy, and through this group I can get to know others who do the same thing, like you!
