Plus ONE
Plus ONE

Today we are launching a new campaign.

It is very simple… +1.

We want all our members who already have ONE animal to adopt ONE MORE.

There are many reasons for this, let me give you a few..

1. With very few exceptions animals are social beings. Dogs and cats certainly thrive in company. Those who believe cats are happy alone have never seen two cats playing together and grooming each other.

This is a sight to behold and every animal lover should experience it.

2. If you are spending time away from home (like 99% of people) its much easier for the animal to have a companion to spend the day.

3. Bye bye to the problem of separation anxiety. Over the last two years we have witnessed people abandoning their animal to shelters because the animal (in their words) “loved them too much) and couldn’t be separated from them.  Too much love will kill you…

4. If a substantial number of our members adopts ONE MORE animal from our adoption list we will be saving a great numbers of lives AND, most importantly, setting an example for others to follow.

If you don’t currently have an animal at home we will be happy to direct you to one of the many shelters around you where animals are wasting their entire lives waiting for YOU to appear.

So.. apply today… Bring ONE MORE life into the family.
Please share this campaign with your friends, and if they have an animal, suggest them to adopt ONE MORE.

It is so true. They are social beings and are so much happier if there is at least one more compatible animal at home. It doesn’t even have to be the same kind of animal. As long as you can afford proper care for one more, it is an excellent idea!

Way to go Viktor!!!!!! Im looking for another Rescue Rottweiler at the moment, for a companion to my Rottie boy. There are so many to choose from here in UK Rescues its hard to decide who to take out!!!! Its so much easier to have two dogs at home, great company for each other as you say, and the new arrival can learn so much from an already house-trained dog.
Good luck, lets hope this will get a few more out of their situations and into loving permanent homes. Keep up the fight as I know you will xx

  3. So I was just a week ahed, but already joined the campaign 😉 Let’s see later, when these too are settled, maybe we will find room for a new one again 🙂

I had a boxer from a local rescue centre, she was timid, scared of everything and getting worse all the time. we had been looking for a suitable partner for her for about a year, on the off chance my daughter and i called at the same rescue centre and fell in love with a very big, silly, loving dobermann, we brought him home and the change in our boxer is amazing. she has so much more confidence and i love watching them together, he makes her brave and shes teaching him to play.i will always have 2 dogs from now on, in fact i would have more if my husband would let me.
    xx tina.

  6. Absolutely support you on this 100%.

  7. Great cause! We started with one… and two… and three… and four… and five… and six… and FINALLY seven little blessed adopted souls :)))

  8. I have three cats when I am only allowed to have two in my apartment. Whenever my manager comes over I have to hide one cat. *__*

  9. dear sir, I am living in b.cekmece area and looking after dogs and cats since I was a small kid, I Adopted a golden retriever about 6 months ago from b.cekmece shelter rescued from the flood we had at that time. She is ok. but i think boring because she is alone at home during day time. I will love to look after some dog to accompany her since she is a very peaceful and calm girl and can be playful and friendly when meets with other dogs. if you can advise us a similar friendly dog we will be happy to adopt or give a shelter for some time to another dog close to her size by the way she is 4 years old very healthy girl and she is not breed able..

    good words Viktor!
i always admire your good job to help turkey stray animals. They are lucky to have you.
my country is not friendly to animals too, people eat dogs & cats, and many time dogs culling like in turkey.
i live with 8 ex-stray/homeless dogs, the oldest is 23 years old (thanks God let him to 2010!) that i got from old poor lady 12 years ago.
all these beautiful souls are old & not pure-breed, so nobody wants to take them home. all the young & pure-breed ones (i’ve ever foster) always success to get adopted parents.
hope more dogs & others animals get home this year.

  11. 🙂 We %100 support you Victor. On the 24th of Dec. 2009 while we were going back home from our daily walk with Sun (my dearest Golden), one little kitten appared suddenly in front of us. We took him to our Vet. He was so weak and had a serious parasite problem but he recovered fast. Now we’re all together at home and living happily and purrly. That was a wonderful gift of cosmos on my birthday 24th. Dec. 🙂 I experienced and also believe that, at least 2 is always much much better than 1 at home. Especially if you’re not at home with them most of the time. They need a company while your absence. It’s time for everyone to have a new friend/company at home. Congratulations Victor for the idea of the Campaign…

  12. I support you but i have allready 10 cats and one dog (+ 1 wife :-))

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Bob… there is no hope for you.. :-p

  13. Pets are MUCH happier in pairs! This is a great idea. I neuter and help homeless cats with GRACE Rescue of Southern California. We get them neutered and healthy, and try to find them great homes. Do you have one to offer? Please get in touch!

  14. What a wonderful idea, Viktor! I soooo wish I could adopt one more….. however, with 10 personal companion cats and one rescue that needs adopted, I am at complete capacity right now 🙁 I hope this is a wildly successful campaign! Peace…………. 🙂

  15. Like I said the other day….I did….I wish I could take more, but I’m just not capable of taking another. These 2 are beautiful though.I just don’t think another puppy is in my life right now. I wish I could take them all. Two is all I can handle.

  16. Well, I would love to adopt another one…but right now, Ive not the possibilties, lack of money and time, right now.
Im a single mother with a 5 years old boy under treatment. A new member should have extra attention and time due to adapt at her-his large family.
Ive 4 cats, and 3 dogs, all rescued. But a new rescue can happen in any moment, I live in some rural area, where people are used to “loose” puppies, kittens, pregnants, oldies, or just some unlucky pet is not welcome anymore. The good thing, almost anyone endsup as stray, neighbors are always making room for a new member.
And this campaign is great…I wish many find a forever loving home soon.

  17. PS 4 cats and 3 dogs get along more than well!!!

  18. I’m counting down the days untill we can adopt a lot more animals! Just need to find our own house, without rules of the houseowner.

  19. DEBZ POWER says:

I currently have 4 cats a dog a husband and 2 human drains on resources but as soon as there is a vacancy do not worry it will be filled with a rescue

  20. Roger L. Cotterman says:

    Victor;
That is a great idea, however, we also want only those who can properly care for the dog, including not only food, but toys for the dog, trips to the vet, and boarding costs, for the life of the dog needs to be taken into consideration. They also need to researchg the breed of dog that they are considering to fimiliarize themselves with the breed. To see if the dogs specific breed needs any special attention, such as Pit Bulls needing to be walked or allowed to run to burn off their energy.
I am not trying to discourage people from adopting, but they should foster a dog for a period of time to see, if they want to adopt or not, and some who do not want the life long commitment could always be a foster home for dogs in need. We all know that there is a shortage of foster homes for dogs in the United States as well as Canada.
However, if they cannot adopt or foster, they can donate to a rescue or shelter of their choice.
BTW: Thanks for the beautiful winter Olympics, one of the best that I have ever seen.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Roger.. our adoption policy take in consideration all those points. We go as far as demanding our rescues be fed a raw meat diet.

  21. Tammi Jager says:

We are up to 4 at the moment and might be taking two puppy mill rescues off the shelters hands in the next week. If I had room I would adopt more but I don’t. My +1 turned into +3 and soon to be +5.

  22. Lale Erguner says:

How I wish I could adopt one more dog!! But with Sunny the dog, Cheyenne and Sioux the family cats, and Shiva, the kitten looking for her forever home while she convalesces from a traffic accident and subsequent operation, my husband, my daughter and myself, there is no room for another dog!! Maybe, if I win the lottery and buy myself the biggest farmhouse I can find with acres and acres of land, I will be able to adopt several more dogs… Don’t be fooled by the plethora of cats, I’m a dog person at heart…

  23. lynda chabane says:

Viktor, have you contacted Mahmutmurat yet??? Hes looking to take another if you can suggest someone suitable for him. Fantastic news!!!!!!!!!! Hope it all works out for him and his possible adoptee x

  24. lynda chabane says:

Just a thought…..KENT MIGHT BE IDEAL FOR HIM???? Im getting a bit excited here lol

  25. İrem Açımuz says:

I wish i could adopt not only one but 5-6..but already adopted 4 dogs and 8 cats.. but I’ll keep on trying to make people adopt..

  26. I love the +1 concept – because it makes sense.
However, whenever you’re planning on adding a new companion to your tribe you need to be prepared for the best and the worst, any circumstance, because it is just not fair to the animal to be dumped because one loses their job or gets pregnant or picks up a partner with allergies, has to move and the first available home was one that doesn’t allow pets….NO!
These animals depend on you like children would, and they adore you as such.
    Don’t disappoint them.
So, I would say if you have one single doubt about your future, don’t get an animal….
FOSTER!!! No long term responsibility, you can see whether you like having a dog or cat around. If you like kittens, there’s a never ending supply of that – all year long.

When I was with my Berkeley based rescue group, I would refuse to adopt any animals to college kids. Instead I asked them to become foster volunteers for us and it was a wonderful solution.
Great commitment, great resource, and fun.
So, if you’re a student, perhaps make it + 1 or 2 or 3 for the season and join us as a foster volunteer.

  27. I went from 2 + 1 to 3 + 3 at home, and then from 1 + 2 to 3 + 2 at work…3 of the 6 at home are in rehab and yes, though it may take a while, company is a great healer. More felines of course means more portable bed warmers as well:-)
Happy New Year to all from me and mine to you and yours!

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks Tara… same to you.. xx Viktor

  28. Raciel Fernandez says:

    Brilliant!

  29. Diane Baxter-MacArthur says:

Have one dog & cat that were rescues and just rescued two more kittens from the group of ferals I help look after at work ( all the females are now fixed btw). Managed to raise enough money to make a few insulated shelters..so I hope it’s a little easier for them this winter! And I was really never a cat person, but I guess I am now…. 🙂 Adopt don’t Shop!
