Kiera was rescued in provincial Indonesia and we don’t know what happened to her. As soon as we learnt about her she was airlifted completely across Indonesia to Jakarta where our local volunteers placed her in a veterinary clinic.
Kiera’s nose together with her upper incisors appear to be gone, the bone is exposed and the soft tissue is cleanly cut in a straight line. We are considering a tumor but the site’s clean line is unusual of cancer, which is more irregular.
Kiera may also have been intentionally hurt, or may have been caught up in machinery.
Even though she is now in a safe place, Kiera faces serious challenges.
Kiera cannot eat on her own
Right now Kiera cannot feed herself and is being hand fed with a special syringe. If this method of providing nourishment proves unsuccessful Kiera can quickly develop irreversible liver problems. The vets are doing tests to check the state of her liver and see if it has been impacted yet. The next couple of days are critical and will show if a feeding tube must be installed.
Infection is Kiera’s biggest enemy
The vet team is doing a battery of blood and chemistry tests to find out if internal organs have been affected, including taking cultures in order to address the infection specifically.
Kiera is in critical care on supportive therapy, she is being kept hydrated, stable and isolated to protect her from any other infections. Once she’s stable then Xrays, a biopsy and other examinations will be performed as well to look for indicators of more serious internal issues.
Kiera is also severely malnourished so the next several days are critical for her. If she survives, she will most likely need several reconstructive surgeries, which cannot be performed in Jakarta so she will have to fly out of Indonesia.
UPDATE | MAY 3, 2016
Kiera has started eating on her own!!!
An important battle has been won in the fight for her life. Little Kiera is being fed a high quality, high protein, Iron, folate and vitamins B6 and B12 rich wet food — Royal Canin Recovery Support.
In the spirit of more good news Sunday’s blood panel shows some improvement, at the same time causing some concern. Her lymphocytes have increased, meaning her own immune system may be starting to pickup. They are not in the right range yet, but seem to be moving in the right direction. She still has a bad infection, http://www.ourhealthissues.com, but it appears to be getting better slowly. Given the severity of her injury, the suspicion she was exposed to it for quite a long time and the fact she was unable to feed herself — the vets think her slow improvement is to be expected.
The worrying bit of news is that Kiera’s hemoglobin is showing some decrease, so the vets are working to address this and increase the number of red blood cells.
Please donate towards Kiera’s rescue fund to help us save her life and transport her to the US. We have already consulted the specialist surgeon who worked miracles with Patrick’s face and have received confirmation that her nose can be fully reconstructed.
What you are seeing may look frightening, but look beyond and see the scared little kitten underneath.
If flight money needed can be gathered for a new caring home in the US, I’ll adopt her. I will care for her as long as needed. Poor creature to have this horror happen to her, sweet cat! I can be her forever home. Have 2 cats & 9 chickens. My cats are INDOOR pets-only. Will love her & give her all she needs. What paperwork do I need???
y cat had to be “put down” because she had mouth cancer and the operation was not successful–It ate away most of her mouth into her throat and she still looked better than this poor creature. I cant even begin to imagin the horrors and the pain she has been thru. If she is in a lot of pain it would be more humane to let her go to God but I firmly believe she deserves a chance to know some happiness and love before that happens. I hope people will step up for her so she will know not all humans are cruel and evil. God will vindicate her and her perpetrators will not go unpunished. For vengence is Mine saith the Lord.
You are ignoring my comments and also these messages don’t go to a valid account

Hello,
My heart goes for this little one. What kind of life can this little one expect? I bet some human did this to punish this poor kitten. I hope whoever did it has his/her just punishment by destiny.

Leila

Also Donated
Aww she is such a precious little kitten. I’m praying for her to recover & live a long happy healthy life. She deserves a loving home & family. It breaks my heart to think of everything she has been through. I’m keeping her in my thoughts & prayers ❤️
I am so happy she is improving and slow and steady is great! She is NOT a monster and I can tell she is a beautiful kitten despite the bad people who tried to harm her. She may not look like a kitten but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and watching her get scratches from the vet shows just how beautiful she is!! Hang in there Kiera!!
Donated. How is she doing?
Me and my husband would be interested in adopting Kiera when she is rehabilitated.
Hi Tiffany, we have responded to your email. Thank you!
Any updates on Kiera? In Alex’s article you mention the like “cancer took Kiera away”. Is this the same animal?
Sadly, Kiera did pass away. We were unable to help her. Here is our last update on kitten Kiera: http://bit.ly/2coQjY5. Thank you for keeping her alive in your memories!
