Motherhood is not easy.
Mothering a few babies is harder still.

Mothering babies while living in a war zone is almost impossible.

Niyah is mother to a few babies, with the difficult task of nursing and nurturing them in the often indifferent and regularly dangerous big city.

Niyah’s little world exploded when the Enemy decided she should not be alive and shot at her.

The bullet got her but she survived that first time. The Enemy however did not give up. Some time later, enough for the first wound to heal, he found her again. This time the bullet snapped her spine, paralyzing her from the waist down, and sentencing her babies to almost certain death.

Niyah is in our clinic with a torn spine and uncertain future. We can see both bullets on the xRays, the old one she lived through, and the new one that shattered hers, and that of the little lives she nurtured, future. She is not eating and cannot maintain her body temperature.

While the vets are working to stabilize the mother, our volunteers are out there looking for the babies, whose light is slowly extinguishing with each passing minute. If we don’t find them their chances of surviving the battlefield that our cities–with their screaming cars and evil Enemies–often are for animals, are slim.

UPDATE, 8th December, 2015

While you are getting ready for Christmas, Niyah’s world is shaking again.

When we took Niyah’s case on a few months ago she had just been shot. Her chances were minuscule but she is a fighter and survived. Unfortunately the bullets had caused irreparable damage to Niyah’s spine and her hind legs will be forever paralyzed.

Niyah’s troubles, however, don’t end here. A couple of days ago she developed worrying symptoms — nose discharge, labored breathing and high fever. Specialized tests ruled out giardia and coronavirus; blood tests however show a dangerous infection, the origins of which the vet team is trying to establish. Niyah is under 24 hour observation and must remain hospitalized for at least a week.

Niyah’s new troubles

Due to Pepper‘s prolonged stay at the clinic we are already overexposed, and this new expense for Niyah is completely beyond our resources.

  1. The more I hear what evil people do, the more I prefer to be with animals instead! It would be justice to see the one that shot her get shot in the back! My prayers for her recovery and that her precious babies are located.

  2. Lisa Peterson says:

MY the Lord have mercy on the depraved, miserable, soulless so-called human who did this to a mommy and her babies. Praying SO hard for her, and her wee ones.

  3. I don’t understand the cruelty that is harbored in some. I will send money for her, but cannot until next week. Prayers sent that you find the babies.

  4. larry spizzirri says:

  7. Is it not enough that we aim to destroy one another? Must we snuff out everything good in this world? Cruelty for the sake of cruelty it tears my heart out.

Any news on her babies? Also do you still need funds for her and a furever home?

Nothing unfortunately. We can only hope they were old enough to have survived on their own. Thank you for caring!
