CHIARA
At first glance stray Chiara is a regular kitten. The kind person who picked her up from the street however soon found out that she is blind, and as if that is not enough, she suffers from violent, prolonged seizures. The reason for the seizures has not yet been identified.
An epileptic seizure is not a disease in itself but a symptom of abnormal functioning of the brain.
The video below shows one of Chiara’s long, exhausting seizures. Warning: graphic content!
HOPE
Causes of epileptic seizures can vary from poisons and metabolic diseases, structural or functional problems of the brain such as chemical imbalance, tumors, inflammation or infection, malformation, stroke or trauma.
The most likely explanation of Chiara’s troubles would be a kick in the head and sadly her being a stray would offer plenty of opportunities for that to happen. Trauma-induced seizures are also often accompanied by blindness.
Without a proper diagnosis Chiara however cannot be treated long term, her seizures can only be temporarily controlled which is already being done. To evaluate the problem correctly she requires an MRI or CT scan of the brain. The vet team also recommends a CFS, cerebrospinal fluid sampling, also known as spinal tap which is another extremely important diagnostic tool in the investigation of brain disease.
Chiara is a only baby kitten, just two or three months old. She deserves a chance for a bright, happy future and she deserves to see the world. Please help her live a different life by donating today towards her medical care.
