JAXX
The one good thing we can tell you right away about this not-quite summer-holiday story is that Jaxx is in our care now, and we will do everything possible to change his life. This is important and we wanted you to know right away.
Jaxx was noticed recently by one of our volunteers in a distant rural area. When she saw a small chained dog spinning endlessly in circles, she made an effort to find and meet the owners of the land, took some time carefully talking to them and found out the behavior started recently. Apparently the people had been told by various friends and relatives that the dog may have a problem with his tail or had to be treated for parasites.
That is where the people left it.
Jaxx kept on spinning.
WHAT NOW?
We had to act. Thankfully the people in whose care he was appreciated the situation and understood they could do nothing more for him, so we took over — both his health and his future.
We immediately scheduled an appointment for Jaxx with a veterinary neurologist. During the examination which lasted an hour the pup was thoroughly examined and his behavior, reflexes and reactions evaluated. If Jaxx were an old dog then spinning could be attributed to behavioral problems manifesting with old age, such as anxiety. He is however a young boy and apparently this is new behavior.
The concerns the neurologist expressed range from issues with the vestibular system and inner ear to a stroke or brain tumor. The next step in diagnosing the problem is advanced imaging like an MRI or CT scan.
Jaxx must be booked for a computed tomography of the head. A CT scan is performed with special x-ray equipment in order to assess head injuries, severe headaches, dizziness, and other symptoms that may indicate an aneurysm, bleeding, stroke — and brain tumors. The results will allow the vet team to plan the next step in helping the pup, and that must happen fast.
Jaxx needs to stop spinning. Please look into his eyes and help him by donating today.
