SARAH
Sarah’s story started as a normal rescue — we noticed a stray dog was having trouble walking; she would often stop, squat, sit and then wobble on unsteadily. Having decided to investigate further we were worried mostly about a problem with her legs and what was our shock when we found out the real, quite horrifying reason for the sweet girl’s troubled gait.
After some asking around we discovered that Sarah ended up on the street when her elderly owner passed away. For a while she somehow survived and then something terrible happened.
None of the people who were aware of Sarah’s condition did much more than feed her, which is when we found out about her.
THE DIAGNOSIS
We saw the frightening reason for Sarah’s problem as soon as we managed to catch her and load her into a car. Later on during the examination in the vet clinic we also learned the proper diagnosis.
The source of Sarah’s severe discomfort turned out to be endometrial hyperplasia and uterine prolapse. Sarah is pregnant, but the pregnancy did not develop normally and her entire uterus ended up protruding outside her body, causing severe pain, unspeakable discomfort and the possible death of the babies.
Sarah is in critical condition, her hematokrit (Hct) levels are extremely low and she first needs an urgent blood transfusion, only then can the life-saving surgery she requires be performed.
