WINTER
We found out about Winter before we learnt of Silver. Even back then she had been refused help by all other local animal rescue organizations.
While Silver shocked us with his tightly shut eyelids (if you missed the update see how he is doing here), Winter won us over with her huge begging eyes.
We wondered why nobody had dared help this beautiful lady cat… and then we saw the tumors. Yes, this is a hard read but please continue reading as there is hope — but only if we manage to win you over before the holidays, because Winter has been waiting for almost too long now.
THE DIAGNOSIS
So far two sets of Xray studies of various body projections have been performed. Since Xrays are not ideal for studying soft tissues the vets are divided regarding the results, with some suggesting the tumor has not spread and the rest the opposite. The only way to be certain of what is actually happening in Winter’s frail body is to perform a CT scan which can clearly visualize tissues and bones and answer the question of whether the tumor is isolated or it has metastasized.
Why do we need to know that?
Winter is an elderly lady. If the tumor has spread within her body it would not be correct to perform surgery and attempt to remove it — she is weak and fragile, the operation is complicated and the recovery difficult. If the growth has reached her lungs, the vet team’s main concern, then Winter is sadly a terminal patient, meaning it would be most fair, kind and correct to let her go. If the lungs are clean however and there are no metastases, we will immediately perform surgery to give her as many more years of happy life as possible.
THE VERDICT
The verdict, as always, will be written by you.
Performing the CT scan is the next step in helping Winter and she is waiting in the clinic for us to convince you she needs it urgently so the vets can make the right decision on going forward.
When we saw these huge begging eyes we knew we had to help. For this Christmas please give Winter hope.
