FATE
Dear friends, today we reach out with the last story for the year.
A story which, as it often happens, we were not prepared for in any way. It is a time of celebrations, getting ready to switch off and leave this weird year in the past, but as fate would have it instead of sending happy greeting cards here we are with one last important story — Graya’s.
GRAYA
Graya, for whom the first days of December almost turned into the last days of her life.
Discovered out in the cold by people with warm hearts, Graya was almost frozen, with a broken head, covered in blood, immobile and in shock. Upon finding her the rescuers abandoned their plans for the day and immediately drove her to a veterinary clinic, where the vet team discovered severe head trauma, brain edema, fractured jaw, nasal bone, and two unseeing eyes.

A SMALL DETAIL
A small but important detail that we should not withhold is the fact that according to the vets Graya was most likely kicked in the head. There are no other wounds on her body, no surface grazes, no scratches, nothing to indicate she was hit by a car for example. Her injuries are very localized and typical for cats who have been kicked with a heavy boot.. A friendly stray, Graya must have approached the wrong person, and almost paid with her life for the mistake.
This small but dreadful detail saddened and angered us, but it also gave us a strong desire to save this particular life — one last good deed to counter the darkness in our world before the year rolls off the calendar.
HOPE
Graya is in the emergency unit of the vet clinic, on intravenous fluids and under 24 hour observation. She needs a head x-ray but is currently unstable for even the light anesthesia this requires. She will need surgeries to address the multiple fractures and an examination by a specialist ophthalmologist will have to determine whether she will keep the vision in any of her eyes.
A long road ahead of a little cat — but Graya is not alone, she has us and we are hoping she also has you by her side.
Graya is a young, strong cat. She is not ready to give up on life. She already survived Saturday, then lived through Sunday and she is still with us today.
Graya is fighting. Please don’t let her die this Christmas, donate for her life.

UPDATE | December 20, 2018
After a busy and difficult week — during which we took on Bella, a second, unexpected Christmas rescue — we are very happy to let you know that Graya is stable enough for her first surgery! The surgery will address the first of the jaw fractures and it will be a great step forward for kitty as it will allow her to eat on her own.
Kitty’s eyes have also been examined again and a lesion has been found in one of them. Treatment was started immediately and the vet team will do everything in their power to help Graya keep at least some of the vision in that eye. Sight in the second eye is unfortunately lost fully.
Graya is feeling very, very well, and has started to show what an amazingly sweet girl she is. Our volunteers visit almost daily and she always enjoys the fussing and wants more, rubbing her head in their hands and not wanting to let them go. Watch the video below to see her gently stretching her claws and holding on to the sleeve of the hand reaching inside to pet her.
Thank you for your support of this gentle kitty, it is thanks to you that we have been able to get this far! Please stay with Graya and help us continue to provide the medical care she needs.
Please help kitty Graya get the surgeries she needs.
