Martin was once a loved pet, handsome, healthy, luxurious fur a point of pride for his owners.
One fateful day, however, Martin fell sick with an eye infection. Instead of taking him to a vet, Martin’s owners left him to his own devices. His eyes grew worse, the infection raging unchallenged, chewing into flesh, damaging precious tissue.
The eyes swelled, deformed and exploded. The pain was unimaginable.
Martin went blind.
It was then that his owners either shoved him out on the streets or he simply got lost. Martin started wandering around, hiding from every sound, trying desperately to sniff his way to food, avoiding by sheer luck the countless dangers of stray life.
He grew emaciated, desperate, and lost hope.
Martin had almost given up when a kind man rescued him, sheltered him in his garage, fed, watered and cuddled him, and sought help.
Martin is with us now, and a thorough examination determined that his eyes are sadly beyond help. The infection has ravaged them completely and left behind nothing but damaged fragments.
The deformed and broken pieces of Martin’s eyes are now decaying in the sockets and must be cleaned out, with the eyelids surgically closed to prevent further infections. The operation is called enucleation and after removing the remnants of the eyes it also sutures the eyelids closed. Without surgery Martin will be plagued by an ever present irritation, foul-smelling discharge, and constant infections — dangerous because of their location inside Martin’s head in close proximity to his brain.
UPDATE, April 18, 2016
Martin’s surgery was a success. The remnants of the eyes have been cleaned out and the eyelids sewn closed.
Martin looks a bit scary at the moment but soon new fur will grow where it was shaved, the crusty post-op scabs will resolve, the infection will be banished fully and he will be the happiest kitty around! Martin is on antibiotics, has a great appetite and seems to be feeling better already.
Thank you for making it happen!
Martin will now need a great home anywhere in the world, so if you haven’t already, email us on adoptions@myletsadopt.com.

Being the ‘mum’ of 5 cats… all rescues my heart aches for Martin… our last addition chose us… he had been abused and to start with lived under our hedge… he now is on my bed one of the clan… thank goodness for people who care for Martin….he is one beautiful cat.
WTF is wrong with people in today’s society to have a pet and treat him/her like this? Where is Martin now, what country please?
Donated to the little guy, what I can afford, God bless Martin
Sweet Martin. I have donated a little bit to help with his care. I would love to hear updates on his health as he gets better. My heart truly breaks for him but I hope he finds a wonderful home very soon!
Hope it’s not too late to donate. I just sent Martin some $ to help with his medical expenses. Wishing him a speedy recovery and a loving forever home.
I find unbelievable that his so called human owner allowed this to happen. I hope Kama gets them and soon. Bless the people who saved Martin and may he feel nothing but love from now on

The attitude of these owners were simply heartless and irresponsible and unfairly always the pets have to suffer. Their unimaginable pain hurts so much in heart that I always have to cry. I wish the very best for sweet Martin. Please give him a kiss and an extra tender loving care from me <3. Many thanks to you, Viktor, and the whole team. You stop them suffering and bring them love and new hope and in the end a new loving home. God bless you for your heartful work! You are a big shining light in this world!
People can be so cruel but blind animals can easily adapt to a loving home if given a chance
