Coco will walk

UPDATE on Coco.

November 2009 : Coco was flown out of the country and sent to possibly the best orthopedic surgeon in the world.

The bullet that paralyzed her was extracted and she is now undergoing rehabilitation including hydroterapy and massages.

The recovery will take some time but she is now able to stand during short periods of time.  We are confident she will recover completely.

At this stage I need to ask for your help. Our doctor kindly offered to donate Coco’s operation but we need to pay for the post-operation treatment and rehab. Our outstanding bill is 800 Euros.

The Good Doctor

A BULLET

This will be extremely short, as sometimes, even I can be at a loss for words.

Today we found out the reason for Coco’s paralysis.

Coco did not have a traffic accident. Coco was shot.

She has a bullet lodged on her spine. A small little bullet from an air rifle. The would be killer aimed for the heart… instead, the
bullet got lodged on her spine and ended her life as she knew it.

Today Coco spent the day with me on my car, going from vet to vet and then accompanied to a couple of business meetings.  At some point, looking at her sitting quietly on the back of my car I had to make a big effort to refrain myself from crying.

Coco will be flown overseas for the best medical treatment available in the world. Chances for recovery are about 30 %.  It is either that
or a life spent on a wheelchair and having someone helping her pee and poo for the rest of her life.

Let’s Adopt! is all about Hope.  She will be giving the chance.

I will be covering all medical treatment and expenses. Contact me if you feel want to help me giving a new life to Coco.

Coco hakkında güncelleme…Bir uçuş gönüllüsüne ihtiyacımız var.

GÜNCELLEME !!!  Coco bugün yeni tekerlekli düzeneğine kavuştu. Yüzündeki gülümseme herşeyi anlatıyor.
İstanbul’da Coco için geçici bir ev bulmuştuk. Ama ne yazık ki, geçici aile, kusursuz tuvalet eğitimine sahip bir köpek istediklerini belirterek Coco’yu bize geri verdi.
İnsanlar…Beni şaşırtmaktan asla vazgeçmiyorlar. Coco…şimdi, Kanada’daki yeni ailesine uçmayı beklerken, benim evimde kalıyor.
Coco’yu, Kanada, Montreal’e uçuracak bir gönüllü arıyoruz. Eğer, önümüzdeki günlerde İstanbul’dan Kanada’ya uçuyor ya da böyle birini tanıyorsanız lütfen benimle irtibata geçin.

Coco and friends

Update on Coco… We need a flight volunteer.

UPDATE!!! Coco got her new set of wheels today. The smile on her face says it all.
We had a foster home in Istanbul for her but she bailed out because she wanted the dog to be perfectly toilet trained.
People… they never cease to surprise me.
She is now staying at my house whilst waiting for her flight to Canada.

We need a flight volonteer to fly Coco to Montreal, Canada. If you are flying from Istanbul to Canada, or know of anybody flying to Canada within the next few days please get in touch with me on

Tekerlekli Melek Coco

Coco’yu bir veteriner kliniğinin bahçesinde, sessizce bir köşede otururken bulduk. Yanına yaklaşıp tanışmak isteyinceye ve belden
aşağısının felçli olduğunu anlayıncaya kadar herşey normal gibi görünüyordu. Onu “kurtaran” hekim röntgen cihazı olmadığı ve ne
yapacağını bilemediği için Coco’yu bahçenin bir köşesinde, gözlerindeki hüzünlü bakışla kendi kendine iyileşmeye veya sessizce
ölmeye terk etmişti.

Dün bebeği bakımımıza almayı başardık. Kendi hekimimize gittik, kucağımızda Coco, ilk insan temasını hissediyor ve güzelce
masajlanıyordu. Röntgenler gösterdi ki Coco’nun problemi ameliyat ve ardından fizik terapiyle iyileşebilirdi. Ama çok geç kalmıştık ve elimizdeki imkanlar Coco’nun yürümesine yetmiyor.

Ancak, bir umut, Londra’da Dr Noel Fitzpatrick veya ABD’deki bazı müthiş doktorlar belki bir çözüm bulabilirler ama şimdilik Coco
tekerlekli sandalyesinde hayatına devam edecek.

Bu hafta sonuna kadar son derece özel bir arkadaşımız tarafından özel bir tekerlekli sandalye yapılacak Coco’ya. Ve biz de tanıdığımız tüm uluslararası kontakları harekete geçirerek Coco’nun arka bacaklarını kullanıp tekrar yürüyebilmesi ve hak ettiği hayat standardına kavuşabilmesi için uğraşacağız.

Şimdi Coco için geçici bir aileye ihtiyacı var. Ancak bu insanlar çok çok özel insanlar olmalı. Öncelikle, özel ihtiyaçları olan bir köpeğe
nasıl bakılacağını bilmeliler. İkinci olarak dünya kadar büyük bir kalpleri olmalı çünkü Coco’nun bakımı hem çok sabırlı olmayı hem de hayata gülerek bakabilmeyi gerektirecek. Ve son olarak, tum bunları sadece ruhlarının iyiliğinden yapacaklar.

Angel on Wheels – Coco

We found Coco sitting quietly in the corner of the garden of a veterinary clinic. All seemed okay until I approached the baby to meet her and found out that she was paralysed waist down. The vet who “rescued” her had no x-ray machine and no clue about what to do so he left Coco in the corner of the garden for a month, waiting for her to “miraculously” to recover on her own, or die away quietly, with that sad look in her little face.

Yesterday I managed to take that baby in our care. We drove to our vet, Coco in our arms experiencing her first real human contact and a great massage. The x-rays showed us that her injury could very well be healed through surgery and following physical therapy. But we are far too late and our knowledge and conditions here will not allow us to make her walk.

I have no doubt Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick in London or any of the wonderful doctors in the US or Germany could solve this case but for now Coco will be wheelchair bound.

A special rolling chair will be built before the weekend by a very special friend. We will use all our international contacts to fly Coco wherever necessary and to restore the mobility of her lower extremities and give her the quality of life she so deserves.

We need a foster home for Coco now. But the people there need to be of a very very special kind. First, they should know how to handle a dog with special needs and special care. Second, they should have a heart as big as the world because Coco will require much patience and good humor to deal with. And third, they’ll have to do all of this out of the kindness of their souls.

Coco is a beautiful female baby, and she is extremely calm and quiet. Her vaccinations and deparasitation have been completed.
