On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden

And the words they say
Which we won’t understand…
Don’t accept that what’s happening
Is just a case of others’ suffering
Or you’ll find that you’re joining in
The turning away.
~ Pink Floyd

Misha was dying.

She had started feeling sick a while ago. Gradually she had stopped eating, lost her energy. She didn’t play anymore, didn’t walk around. It was all she could do to stand up and lift her head. Pus had started oozing out of her eyes and nose. She was no longer interested in food. Or life.

Yet people kept walking on by, leaving Misha behind, somehow succeeding to push her out of their minds.

Misha

Misha

Then someone stopped.

A young man did not turn away and picked the weak kitten up. He took responsibility and did what was right, what he could, anything — to help.

Misha is with us now.

She is in our clinic in critical condition. Still a kitten and only about a year old, she is severely dehydrated, emaciated, a massive upper respiratory infection raging in her tiny body, purulent discharge leaking from her eyes and nose, almost obstructing her airways.

Misha was in such distress that she had to be mildly sedated for the initial examination and tests. Her temperature and a sample for feline panleukopenia will be taken a little later as she is now having a break. Misha was immediately placed on an intravenous drip, receiving fluids & a broad spectrum antibiotic. The vet team has also started treating her eyes. We are expecting results from a herpesvirus and calicivirus test, which together with the panleukopenia results will help determine the diagnosis and further treatment approach.

If Misha is unlucky enough to be suffering from feline panleukopenia the battle will be merciless. Feline panleukopenia, or distemper, is also called cat plague, and is a life-threatening condition. Please keep Musha in your thoughts.

Misha

Misha is a young kitten. Her entire life is still ahead of her.

Tasty treats and naughty games, happy days and lazy afternoons, warm laps and loving cuddles — she can have it all — but only if we manage to save her.

Please don’t turn away from Misha today. All she has is us and you. Please donate towards her rescue and treatment fund.
