Do you know how many stray kittens reach 1 year of age? Less than 1%.

At birth Mi had equal chances with her tiny siblings.

But then something terrible happened, which shattered one of her legs. Mi somehow survived and went on living, dragging the unresponsive limb for weeks, growing weaker by the day. Infection flared. Tiny kittens don’t have a lot of spare life in them to start off with, and Mi quickly became the runt of the litter, headed on a collision course with death. A fraction of time before she could become a statistic, Mi’s story reached us.

When we learnt of Mi she was on her last resources – skinny, dirty and in severe pain. Her body had almost surrendered to the massive infection.

We did not have the required funds nor the time to raise them in advance. Nevertheless Mi was admitted and operated with no further delay. Four bone-fixating surgical plates, many sutures and two hours later she was already coming around. Her leg looked like this.

Today Mi is recovering in a foster home and a second operation is scheduled, which will remove the bone-fixating plates.

The answers to what exactly happened to Mi, and how she managed to survive the merciless city streets on three legs, will remain forever beyond our reach.

What will happen from now on, however — as you know — depends on us all.
Please help Mi by donating to her rescue and treatment fund.
