The impact must have been brutal… caught between tires she was dragged along the road. By the time the car ended up going over her she laid down in the floor, howling in pain, gasping for air and barely able to move.

Crystal somehow managed to crawl inside the garden area of an apartment block, looking for a quiet corner where to hide.

There she stayed, for days, not able to move and search for food and water. People saw here and left her something to eat, but her condition was deteriorating quickly…

IMG_6608

It wasn´t until days later that someone saw her, paralyzed and with a massive gaping infected wound that they took pity of her and took her to a nearby vet that, with just a quick look, decided she should be euthanized.

At that point they wrote to us asking for help… accompanying their note there was an Xray showing the most brutal back fracture.

IMG_6598

We looked at her injuries and we didn´t hesitate… right there and then we promised Crystal that we would turn her life around…

As one would imagine simply by looking at her general condition Crystal is in a terribly weak position right now. If we operated her today she may not be able to survive the procedure….

Crystal is currently receiving fluid therapy, being stabilised before we can operate and reconstruct her back.

PLEASE WATCH HER VIDEO

As it´s always the case with trauma cases affecting the spinal cord time is of the essence so we won´t be able to wait longer than 24, at most 36 hours.

We have scheduled her surgery for Thursday first thing in the morning.

IMG_6619

Thursday 15 of January…

CRYSTAL HAS BEEN OPERATED!!!!

It was a three hour surgery and she went through it like a real warrior princess. What an incredible little cat she is!!!!
When we were preparing her for surgery we discovered a large abscess on her flank with two holes on it. A dog bite.
This means that she wasn´t only run over by a car, when she was at her weakest moment she was attacked by one or several dogs!!!
The operation went very well… we have re-aligned her spinal cord that will be kept in place through plates. This will help greatly her chances of recovery and eliminate the pain she was experiencing.

NOW THE CHALLENGE IS GOING TO BE THE DAILY CARE OF HER INJURIES IN HER GENITAL AREA….

Update Tuesday 20 January..

Sunday 8 February…

** WARNING*** THIS VIDEO WILL MAKE YOU CRY TEARS OF JOY IF YOU WATCH TILL THE END… (It will also make you truly understand when to apply humane euthanasia)

Crystal arrived to us completely broken and nearly dead… she was terribly weak… It was an emergency surgery and although we put our heart and soul into saving her life it looked like this time we may have lost the battle… It looked like Crystal had reached the end of the road…

but then… a miracle happened. WATCH!!!

P.S. After her surgery and treatment is over, Crystal is going to need an extraordinary home where she can enjoy a wonderful life. If you are that home PLEASE write a letter to me on viktor@myletsadopt.com telling me everything about you and your family of animals.

P.S. Please follow Crystal´s updates at our page, Let´s Adopt Global

Watching Crystal crawling on the floor killed me but also made me realise what an incredible spirit she has!
I have seen Let´s Adopt perform this kind of operations before, and you had great results.
I know Crystal is in the best possible hands.
Me and my family are donating 50 USD towards her operation.
    Please save her.
    Respect

    Paul

    1. Saving of this little creature is commendable. However, I’d like to point out, that – as an animal – it has no spirit.

  2. Oh my.. Once Im set by spring,I plan on helping all of these animals as best I can.Crystal has my prayers..Sad video..But a brave kat and i can see by her eyes.I will keep checking back to see how this goes.Again,prayers.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Thank you Scotty!

  3. Karelle Scharff says:

I can’t afford much right now but Crystal could be my Monkee’s doppelganger. I can’t let go of the image. Monkee was 22 when she passed and was queen of our house. Please try to give a life like that to Crystal.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      I promise you we will..

  4. larry spizzirri says:

Sweet, poor angel. Great spirit and fight to live. Donating what I can to help.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Many thanks Larry!

  5. Diane Rudd says:

What a beautiful girl. Will be following her story.

  6. My rescued tortie insists that I help Crystal…so that’s what I’m doing.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Thank you Gerard!!! Our love to your kitty…

  7. Lorraine Winson says:

Hi Viktor, – poor girl. What is the state of the spinal cord? Will she regain use of her legs or is there too much damage there. Will paypal tomorrow (payday Hoorah!). Work your miracles for her please. Lx

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Lorraine… we don’t know… prognosis is not very good due to the time that has passed since the injury, however, at least we are going to align the spine as this will greatly reduced pain..
From there let´s hope things work out… at least we are going to try..

  8. Poor little baby! Such a pretty tortie! Crystal, you are in the best hands possible! Viktor and his team are going to fix you up like brand new! Sending you love and kisses.

  9. Nancy Shufeldt says:

what a beautiful tortoiseshell she is. should she be handled with a broken back?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

What you see in the video is part of the medical examination. Doctors HAVE TO KNOW if and how she moves as part of the evaluation of the situation.
That, and checking deep feeling on her legs and body are essential part of the process of diagnostic and evaluation pre-surgery..
Please see the last surgery this particular vet performed for us: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=948071485217349&set=vb.111324518892054&type=2&theater That´s three days after surgery..

  10. Ralf Lenhard says:

Just donated for this beautiful baby. I will pray for her full recovery. May she find a loving forever home.
    Thank you Viktor

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Many thanks Ralf!

  11. Heidemarie says:

With a broken back she should not be allowed to move even one inch because it will make the injury worse. Nerves can be irrevocably damaged and cut off. What kind of veterinarian is that??!

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

The question is not what kind of veterinarian is that, but what kind of veterinarian are you?

  12. I Hope the sweet little kitty is on something strong for pain, to be honest this video made me kringe to think you had the sweet kitty moving all around like that with the broken back and all the horrible painful condition this love kitty has!!! I Know the moving around was very hurtful and that is why the poor babe was constantly trying to move out of sheer exhaustion from pain, Poor kitty probably just wants it all to stop, I would, Put kitty on something for pain and to relax kitty so kitty can get some well deserved rest if you are not going to put kitty out of sweet angels misery, People would much rather see sweet kitty out of pain and not moving around that way!!! Please help kitty to relax and out of pain so kitty feels it will be worth it to go on living Please help kitty by not making little kitty be in more misery than needed!!! If I am wrong then I apologize!!!

  14. Cassandra says:

This is ridiculous. Why are they “torturing” her in her condition and why is she not lying in a soft, cozy bed? They’ve seen the x-ray. This is uncalled for.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Cassandra…

Poor lovely cat. I wish her surgeons great skill to match their care. XX

  16. Dorothy Crabtree says:

Just donated what I could, and pray with everything I’ve got, that Crystal will come through okay. As always, I can’t thank you and your team enough for all you do, and for all the animals you help and save. xx

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Dorothy… thank you. Viktor

  17. Donated.
Poor baby. Prayers on the way for a successful surgery and good recovery. I hope she will find a wonderful home when she´s healthy and well again.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your assistance to Crystal Chrisanne… many many thanks..

  18. Crystal’s video just broke my heart and the tears just flow. She is not willing or ready to die. She has a beautiful spirit and I pray she survives. Couldn’t donate what I would have liked to, but I did make a small donation. Praying for you Crystal and the hands that perform your surgery. May God and his Angels watch over you.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your help Sherry… We are going to do everything we can … promised.

  19. Dana Palombo says:

Where is this taking place at? If this poor baby needs a home I will take her in and take care of her as well as the help of my family. I am a college student studing to be a wildlife vet. If no one else is willing to take her in I will do it in a heartbeat.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks Dana… Crystal is in Spain, but she will fly anywhere in the world at our expense whenever the perfect family is found…

  20. Liz from Montreal says:

My heart breaks for her! Donated. There is nothing else to say.
    Liz from Montreal

  21. Shirley Schaeffer says:

I can’t afford to donate until Thursday, but will send what I can. She is beautiful. I always help our humane society here monthly and a totally volunteer cat rescue group here in Regina too monthly when I can. Any extra money I have will go to help these animals. Crystal is beautiful. She looks exactly like my friends tortie, Smudgey. Torties are wonder, mischevious, playful souls. I just can’t believe people would drop food by for her yet leave her in such condition. If they could not afford to help at least take her somewhere. Prayers for her.

  22. Tanya Kondracki says:

We use to have a kitty named Cheetah, who looked just like this one. She was here when my daughter was born (now 5 years old)
She was devastated when she died.
We would LOVE to adopt Crystal!
Please let us know if we could be blessed to help such a loving cat!

  23. Debbie Sanguedolce says:

I was outraged at the comments by those who know nothing about evaluating the injuries ….. It’s better to keep your mouth shut, then open it and show what a fool you really are!!! I know Crystal is in great hands. Viktor has been touched by the hand of God … those with their rude and uninformed comments will never know what that is like. I wish I could donate at this time, but my family is dealing with our own human tragedy of a horrible accident of one of my cousins and I am preparing to fly “back home” in two day, as I must see my cardiologist and my neurologist to get their approval to allow me to go home to be with my family ….. When I can, I will donate towards Crystal or for use where you see fit Viktor.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Thank you Debbie… I hope everything will be ok with your cousin…
Please feel free to write to me directly on viktor@myletsadopt.com if you need to talk.
      Best

  24. Sauvez Cristal . Gin. Brossard.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Merci beaucoup Ginette!!!

  25. Gerry Pinion says:

I have $9 in my account right now. I promise that I will send $50 as soon as I get paid. I would be more than happy. To open my home up to this very brave little girl. I live in Oklahoma and my town have a very reputable vet school. I will post a private message to you. This baby needs someone who is a wee bit crazy about taking care of her pets! I AM that crazy person! I will send the money next week without fail! Oh I need to go have a mass said for this little fighter…..please everyone pray for Crystal.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Dear Gerry.. please don´t worry, please take care of yourself and yours. I promise you Crystal will be ok.
Thank you for being there for our animals…

I am in the U.S and would be very willing & able to take Crystal. I would very much like the opportunity to speak with you for more information about her ongoing care, her age, possible future health concerns, etc. Please feel to reach out to me through my email to connect with me if you wish to consider letting me give her a home. Thank you for all that you are doing for her.

What kind of treatment will she need when she recovers? Also what state are you located in? Would she be available for adoption?

  31. What kind of treatment would she need once she is done with surgery? Would she be available for adoption? What state are you located in? Also I have donated what I can.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your help Abril.. Crystal has been operated this morning. The operation went well but we don´t know if shell ever walk again. Prognosis is “reserved” due to the time that passed between the accident and her arriving to us. Still, she is going to feel much much better now that her back has been stabilized.
We don´t know if shell ever recover the use of her bladder and sphincter. Right now she can´t control and needs manual assistance. We have rescued many cats over the years with similar conditions and they all lead happy lives..
We are very optimistic… she´ll need the perfect family…
Crystal is in Valencia, Spain… from here she will fly to the perfect family once we find them..
Of course shell be available for adoption.. please email me on viktor@myletsadopt.com if interested.

  32. Heidemarie says:

    Spinal Cord Injuries continued…

Protect the cat’s spine. Use a blanket or towel to lift her onto a flat surface, such a board, before transporting.

Treatment: All spinal cord injuries require immediate veterinary attention. A cat with spinal cord trauma may also have other life-threatening injuries that take precedence. All cats who are unconscious or unable to stand should be considered to have spinal cord injury and must be handled with great care to protect the spine.

At the scene of the accident, move the cat as gently as possible onto a rigid, flat surface, such as a plywood board or a folded-down cardboard box, and transport to the nearest veterinary clinic. Sliding the cat onto a blanket or large towel and lifting the corners is a satisfactory way of transporting the cat if no board is available.

Spinal cord injuries are treated at the veterinary hospital with corticosteroids and diuretics to prevent the cord from further swelling. A cat with a mild contusion or bruising of the spinal cord will begin to recover in a few days. However, if the cord has been severed, it cannot regenerate and paralysis will be permanent.

  33. Wow. I can’t believe the comments criticizing the vets for making Crystal move. How else will they know what her abilities and disabilities are? I am not a vet, but I do trust these vets to know what they are doing. For instance, when they take a forceps and pinch her belly or toes, I am sure they don’t put any more pressure than they have to, to know if she can feel. It looked to me like Crystal didn’t react to having her toes pinched, and that made me sad, because I’m afraid she no longer has feeling in them. I would’ve preferred to see her wince. I know that LAG will help her to recover to her fullest potential, even if she is never “perfect” again. She will have a good and happy life, thanks to them!

  34. Poor angel! I’m glad she is in your hands. As always will donate when I can. Keep us posted and thank you. Is she getting pain meds?

  35. Your welcome.And i sent email if u need a home,but I know there is others,and closer to her place 🙂

  36. Kate Cassidy says:

Made a small donation, Victor. I wish it could be more. I am a pensioner now. Thank you for caring for beautiful Crystal. Hope she survives.
    Love Kate

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your help Kate…. Thank you

  37. I have worked a long time with all kinds of animals. In vet surgery rooms, rescues, and other places. I have seen almost everything possible. With the time that has passed she may not get the use of her legs back, but if the spine can be realigned then her pain level will go down a lot.
As for those who feel Crystal should have been put down, they have never looked into a animals eyes. God put animals on earth before humans. They have feelings, they show love, and awareness, no I am not going so far as to say a soul. But they ALL have the Will to LIVE.
Viktor has a wonderful team of vets. They do work miracles. Crystal couldn’t be in better hands.

  38. OMG !!! How horrible!!! 🙁
    Shared on my FB wall.

  39. Where is crystal? What are the exact injuries, what more does she have to have done to her? What is her prognosis ? What kind of after care will she need when discharged? Is she used to other inside cats?Looking forwarded to answer soon.
    Thank you,
    Margaret Fuquay

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

  41. Carolyn Allen says:

I believe that Crystal deserves a chance at life after fighting to stay alive. My dog was diagnosed with bone cancer last February. We treated him with pain meds until the tumor was too large on each side of his left hind leg. He wasn’t acting sick and I believed he wanted to live so we had his leg amputated. Everyone said that I should let him go because the cancer had probably already metastasized. I went by what I saw in my little boy and prayed and put him on supplements to help his immune system. Today, almost 1 year since his diagnosis, my little guy gets around well on 3 legs and is happy and enjoying his life. Doctors don’t know everything, and I believe all life is so precious even for our furry critters. God bless Crystal and prayers for her recovery. Viktor thank you for loving these animals you rescue and for giving them a chance.

  42. I hope Crystal is doing better. I recently saw a video about another kitty, Candy who did not make it, that was heartbreaking. All the best for Crystal.

  43. I shared this on Facebook and hope to donate soon. It is hard seeing her like this but bless you Viktor and your doctors who are trying to help her. Please keep us posted on her condition. She is a remarkable cat and beautiful. Its ashame others want to criticize you for the good you are trying to do.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Many thanks Joe..

  44. I donated last week. Update on her condition?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Hi Michele, I have just updated her blog with a video of her cures… please check it out..

  45. Whats the update on crystal? How do we get to the blog?1/22/15

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Hi Scott… I updated the blog with his latest video.. well update with a new video this evening. Her treatment continues at the clinic, we are looking for fosters to continue her cures and rehabilitation at home..

  46. Anonymous says:

i cant afford to help but i would if i could. It actually looks like shes purring in this video! She knows shes being helped and loved <3

  47. I have just donated $15 as that’s all I can afford as I have damaged my back and I can’t work. I wish I could have put many more zeros on the end of that donation, and one day I hope I can. Crystal and Duke have touched me more than any of the others, I don’t know why as I love all animals, but I guess it was something in their eyes. I hope they are doing well. Viktor and your wonderful team are amazing and thank goodness we have people like you in the world giving these beautiful, innocent and loving creatures a second chance. You all are sent from something higher than anyone knows. Please keep up updated as much as you can. I wish so much I could adopt Crystal and Duke, but I already have one dog, which I am not allowed in my building! Maybe I can persuade my parents to adopt them, as long as my dog doesn’t get kicked out, as she will live with them!
Sending all the lovely animals lots of kisses, hugs, love and healing thoughts. To you Viktor and your team, thank you. Victoria

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your help Victoria… thank you

I had come across your site from a recommendation from Danica Mirkovic Felix Shelter to find Larry as the first post to which I immediately helped out. A couple days later, one of my five cats, Mario (my big alpha male buddy), was sitting on my lap when I went to go see how Larry was doing and that’s when I saw Crystal’s story. Mario was very interested in seeing the story about Crystal so I played all the videos for him and he watched them all very intently (I kid you not) and when the last one was over he looked up at me with his imploring eyes – how could I not help Crystal too? So of course I had to help Crystal out too! Now I check on her story to see if there are any updates, and Mario reminds me every day to do so, ;-).

It’s that indomitable spirit that always catches my heart. You are a fighter, Crystal, and Viktor and his wonderful team _will_ get you to a good, loving and fulfilled life. All my kids have been sending their loves, headed (and organized) by my teensy in physical stature but huge in personality, girl, Aliera.

We thank you all so much for helping all the animals the way you do. Extra hugs and comfort to little Crystal – Mario, Maverick, Morrolan, Aliera, Lady Teldra and Mom & Dad (Dennis & Stephani)
