This was the heartbreaking picture I saw being shared on Facebook… there she was, standing behind rusty steel bars in a pathetic plea for help while waiting to be killed.

Mila was due to be destroyed in a matter of hours. Frantic calls to the shelter ensued. Initially noone picked up, by the time they did they said they were not sure if she had been killed already. They thought so… she was very old and sick.

But they were not sure. I insisted, are you SURE she is already dead? The person on the phone wasn´t sure but anyway if she wasn´t already dead she would be dead shortly.

We RUSHED to the shelter. When we got there we Identified the cage, it was empty, she wasn´t there!  And then, just as we were leaving we heard the highest pitched yelp coming from across the yard… That´s her they told us.. she was in the KILLING room!

RUN!!! RUN!!!! I will never forget the image we found when we got there… an emaciated four kilo dog being kept on her side, struggling for her life against two strong men and a woman trying to keep her still to inject the Poison in her veins.

STOP IT!!!! STOP IT!!!!  … We had arrived in time..

Mila had been abandoned at the shelter door a week ago and since then she had been crying for help, but that help only came at the very last second.

Exhausted, she fell asleep on our laps as we hit the road to our clinic.

Mila´s condition beggars belief. Her blood results are terrible, showing a strong anemia and signs of multiple focuses of infection. Her skin has been ravaged by Leishmania and mange, and whatever hair is left falls off the moment you touch it. Her eyes are infected. A quick physical exploration shows several old fractures, forced to heal on their own a long time ago. Her entire mouth is rotten. Most teeth are broken or moving. She is going to need full dental surgery.

PLEASE WATCH HER VIDEO…

We tear up the moment we think of the cruelty that has been inflicted on this baby.

It´s not going to be easy to save Mila, but bearing in mind everything she has gone through and how hard she fought to stay alive until now we believe she deserves all the help we can give her, don´t you think?

 Many many thanks!!!

  2. I love Lets Adopt Global. You are my hero Viktor. Since I’ve found your organization I keep up with everything you do on a daily basis. It’s the only cause I can say that about. It’s bitter sweet to read your stories because they are filled with so much pain, but most times they end in joy. Of all the organizations I’ve donated to, I’ve donated the most to your group because I truly believe in what you do. I just wish I could donate vastly more. I honestly wish that I could win the lottery just so I could donate it all to you. I envy you because the work you do is the most important and satisfying in the world. I do it to but on a much smaller level. I’ve rescued many animals in my life and I can easily day there is nothing more honorable and kind in the eyes of the Lord than to dedicate yourself to the rescue and care of animals in need. Keep fighting the good fight Viktor and LAG. You make a world of difference to every animal you save, which makes you a real life super hero to us all.

How were you able to get into the Kill Room? Incredible story! Thank you for saving her!

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

We were accompanied by one of the shelter workers… they didn´t want to kill her after all…
Everyone was quite relieved I guess..

Thankyou for saving Mila, she is a beautiful girl, I cried reading her story, Please make her better and nurse her back to health. Mila so deserves to be warm, loved spoilt and to never go hungry or feel pain. I have been following your rescues since march when my mum adopted a dog from he’Art of rescue and I joined facebook and came across Lets adopt global. There should be more people in this world like you.

  7. Mary OGiltinan says:

Thank you for your kind heart and soul. Animals suffer so much at the hands and cruel minds of people. Just breaks my heart.
My cat Heathcliff is terrified of vets as when he was six years old I had him at the vet where three people wearing heavy gloves were trying to hold him down to take his blood. I heard him screaming and ran into the room. I told them to let him go and took him out of the office and left. There are other methods to work with. This vet just wanted to train her technicians in an ego manner. I changed vets which gave me a valuable lesson that we have more intelligent and compassionate vets that practice care.

  8. Kevin Inkster says:

Mila’s gorgeous and once again thank you for rescuing another animal in need.

  9. Joni Buwa says:

When I seen Mila on the video the first thing out of my mouth was “Hello Girl-Friend!” Looking into her eyes I could feel the connection between our souls. She has endured very many horrible things in her life but she still Trusts & Most important of all, She wants to be Loved & to Love in return!! I live in United States & my Heart goes out to all annals no matter where they are! I have many Fur Babies of my own & this is the First time that I wanted to fly over seas to snatch Mila Up!! Please keep me informed about her recovery through my personal email address. Much ❤️❤️ To You Mila!!

  10. John Rowan says:

Thank-God you were there. Ive never heard of them letting anyone into the room before to save a dog. I am so happy you were able to save her. She does deserve to live she was fighting from what you said with all her strength she had even with anemia! They have to know the difference between this room and a regular room for check ups etc. They somehow know they are going to die, they must smell it:( She must have been so exhausted after that ordeal. poor little girl but alive:)))) She is a special wee one.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks… well.. they usually don´t, but they realized we had been calling and went there at last minute. I don´t think they wanted to kill her if there was a way out.
It does look like the kill shelters in Spain are a tad more flexible than in other locations.

  12. Jacqueline Robinson says:

  13. Jennifer Gyory says:

This little dog is amazing. I wish I could adopt her, but I have too many dogs already, most of them big (not much fun for a little mite like her). I hope so much that someone will open their hearts to her…

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

You need to send me an email as stated in the blog. For obvious reasons I cannot consider this a serious adoption application.
Please write me a proper letter telling me why you and your family would be Mila´s perfect family…
      My email: viktor@myletsadopt.com

  23. Sammy - jo says:

Sorry but where are the replies from the person who wrote this article to the people who have taken the time to read, care, share, post and donate to the link alone??

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Sammy… I run a FB page with close to 120.000 people. I interact in our page regularly. I also run this blog, read the comments and reply when necessary. Most importantly, I personally oversee the medical and logistical needs of our rescues.
But above all, I am a human being…. I need to sleep sometimes.
      Best
      Viktor

  24. Viktor you done it again! Saved another angel from being killed by evils!!! I will share and pray for her! I hope she makes a full recovery!!! God Bless you and Mila <3

May God always shine on you and bless you.

      Viktor

  26. catherine says:

We met because I was going to foster a very old dog that they refused to let us help. They killed her(

I love your group because you save animals that are at their end and often, their stories are mostly successful and I believe that even with the ones that you have to let go because they are too damaged..well, at least at the end they felt love and care and that makes all of this worth every second and every dollar spent.

  27. I cannot imagine the fear you must have been feeling when you managed to save Mila. I think that image would haunt me forever.
I wish you all the best for giving Mila a last chance and will try and donate something soon. I always post on my facebook page urging my friends to help you out. I hope they do.

  28. Bonsoir Viiktor

  29. Gary Simpson says:

  30. Mila is definitely a little Miracle…It sure brought tears to my eyes when I read her story and then seeing how sick this little baby really is , is heart wrenching….By her October 14th. phot, I could see that she was already responding to the medication and she will recover totally. I would love, so much, to adopt this beautiful little girl..she is so little and I want to be her forever Mom.
