Someone sent an urgent message, alone, in the dark, struggling to eat with her injured mouth, there was a female kitty barely managing to stay alive. The letter said she was emaciated, a group of people had been feeding her but she was injured on the head and she was getting much worst.

Accompanying those words there was a picture…. the picture had terribly quality but it spoke volumes.

We had to do something… We organised her rescue.

IMG_4529
She was terrified, hissing and puffing, trying to look big and strong when her skin was hanging all around her due to her extreme emaciation and dehydration and she could barely stand upright. It took some gentle convincing but in the end we managed to catch her and rushed her to our clinic.

What we found was far more that we had bargained for…

This video describes in all detail Candy´s condition and our efforts to save her.

At this stage we don´t know what has happened to her and why her face is riddled with holes. It could be a number of bad bites that have turned into an infectious nightmare, it could be something else.. we don´t know. But what we know Candy´s only chance is to fight this massive infection that is threatening to shut down her entire system.

Candy is currently in intensive care under 24 x 7 observation.

She is eating very well, which is always a very good sign. What happens from here it´s unknown, it will mostly depend on her and wether her system reacts to all the help we are going to give her.

Once we looked into Candy´s eyes there was no way we could walk out on her.

Candy is putting up a massive fight, and we are going to be right by her side at all times..

IMG_4653

Today I spent over an hour at our clinic, standing in front of our vets, watching the heartbreaking process of cleaning Candy´s wounds.

After all this years my levels of tolerance are not beyond those of “normal” people… still… I was tearing up most of the times.

We, at Let´s Adopt! Global do our absolute best for each one of our rescues, but some, because of their personal story, personalities, or, as in Candy´s case, extreme frailty, really get to us.

Allow me to share these emotions. Please Watch through to the end…

Her condition remains grave, but I feel this comparison picture shows that progress is being made in her treatment…

September 3… The biopsy…

At first we didn´t know what to make of the hardened mass on Candy´s left cheek. It could be just a massive abscess hardened by the infection, or it could be something else.  There was clearly something there but we just couldn´t know without doing a biopsy, problem is, Candy was too weak to be fully anesthesized.

After a week of antibiotic treatment we are seeing some improvements but on the other hand it´s not the evolution we hoped, so we have done a biopsy to be sent to the lab immediately…

Thank you for standing by Candy´s side in this critical times…

Candy has left us…

Last week biopsy showed that the mass on Candy´s cheek wasn´t a tumor. Instead it was some kind of massive abscess that, in theory, could be responsive to treatment or even surgery, but before agreeing on such a course we needed to understand exactly how far it reached into Candy´s head. We needed to understand…

To do this we performed a CT Scan that would give us a perfect understanding of what we were fighting against.

The picture shown has been a devastating one.

IMG_5232

Candy had Osteomielitis caused by a chronic infection. Her injuries were caused by incisive punctures, probably bites, but they were affected by a super-pathogen that set out to devour, literally, everything that found in its path.

The images showed something that was affecting the nasal conducts and that had already begun to penetrate her brain. They showed something that we couldn´t fight against. Had we found Candy in the beginning we could have saved her but not after having found her in such advanced stage.

It the heaviest of heart, our entire medical team, without a doubt, the best vets I´ve ever had the chance to work with, we decided to give Candy a compassionate death, euthanasia in the purest of senses, given only after having exhausted each and every possibility.

We are truly, deeply sorry…
Rest in Peace for eternity Little Candy… We´ll never forget you.

  18. Once again my heart is full of gratitude and my eyes full of tears for the work you do, Viktor…may God bless you for this latest rescue of another of His Most Innocent…you have brought Candy from the brink of death; I am praying she will make it. Even if she does not, she knows that there are those in this world that do no harm, who try to touch with gentle hands and heal pain and suffering, and give love and care. In italian, we say, ‘Cent ‘anni’ – it means ‘a hundred years’ – I hope you live a hundred years, Viktor…so many more may be saved. God bless you once again and always, and give Candy a kiss from me.

  19. David Young says:

Take care of her, Victor, and find her a home she can call her own.

  20. Shirley S. Regina, Sask Canada says:

Please help her. Donated what I could in US funds.

  21. Kerry Himmel says:

what about the other cat in the picture with her?? Do you think someone used her for target practice, w/ pellets maybe?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

When we got there we never saw any other cat.. that picture was sent to me…
I doubt it´s pellets.. there are too many and in a too narrow area… there are no remains of metal either. Working on the infection at the moment..

  22. Where is Candy located? I would welcome her to my family. She would need to be tolerable of other cats. She doesn’t need to like people. I raised two kittens who were feral when I trapped them. Sweety and Sunny lived with us for 12 and 13 years respectively. They both passed away from bone cancer. Sunny could only tolerate my family (my dad and son) and me. And sometimes the guys still scared him. Sweety never trusted people. We currently have five cats. I am in Winslow Arizona. If you don’t have a home for her when the time comes, please contact me.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks Suzi… I will be in touch when the time comes. Best.. Viktor

  23. Love you guys. Looks like a hunter had a bee bee gun or a rifle full of Buck-shot we call it here in the USA? Will she heal?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

We are certainly going to try… at the moment it´s too infected… we are helping her battle that..

  24. Donated and shared.

  25. Sandy Harmsen says:

How can I keep informed about Candy? I am donating and want to know how her progress is going. Where do I find out about more of her . Please tell me Thank you for all your doing for her Sandy Harmsen

  28. Pamela Ortet says:

    Vicktor,
Again, you and your team, have reached into the bowels of hell and rescued a tortured, dying kitty, in darkest peril imaginable. I am beyond sickened and heartbroken that this magical, sweet soul has suffered at the hands of human evil and neglect. My prayers (and contribution) are with you, your team and Candy’s stregth to survive. May she live to see a warm sunny day and know the love of a kind human.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks Pamela… we are doing our very best to save her. Fighting infection at the moment…

AND CANDY, I thank you for fighting and wanting to live! WE MAY NEVER KNOW WHY YOU ARE HURT – BUT LAG WILL GIVE YOU ALL YOU NEED, YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE WILL! PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP….

Many thanks Nelda.. I promise you we are doing everything possible for her, and she is a fighter, so I´m optimistic… Thank you for being there.

  35. Dimi Tzounakos says:

Thanks Viktor for the update, I have been waiting for it since day one. Ask me not why, but Candy’s case surfaced some very strong feelings of mine that I thought I had long lost. This little one must win and live. By now you must have received my small donation, trying for more soon. FB shared, fingers crossed. My best to you and your med team – Dimi -.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Thank you Dimi… yes.. her case is absolutely heartbreaking. I really hope I can provide with some positive news this week…

  36. I pray for Candy to make a full recovery. Never seen anything like this. Thank you so much for helping her Viktor !!!

  37. I also have saved cats I have one now that hes an outdoor kitty I love him so much I make sure hes fed and has his own kitty treats …..he has adopted my front porch as his own …which I have encouraged for him to do …..his name is spot 🙂 ……what u do is amazing …..

  38. Thanks for the update! Let Candy know that there are a Lot Of People who Love her and are helping and pulling for her. She is in safe caring hands and somebody out there wants to take her home and Love her back to Health and be Friends Forever.

  39. Jill Criswell says:

Oh God I am crying my eyes out.

  40. Liesl Feldman says:

I have donated and I ask you to keep sending us pictures. She lay so still I thought she was anesthetized until she shook her head. I hope she able to be on pain medication.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Hi Liesl…
Yes… she was sedated, not full deep anaesthesia, but sedation strong enough so that she feels no pain during the cures.
Her condition doesn´t allow for anything stronger at the moment. A full anaesthesia will be needed is a procedure is needed in the future..

  41. Mia Bothmann says:

Im so grateful that these poor animals have you guys, to save them and take care of them. My heart is crying for this poor girl…. I really hope she will recover fully and live a long life blessed with love. I would love to help her, but live in Denmark ❤

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Dear Mia… being in Denmark is not an obstacle at all. We rescue internationally, we adopt internationally, and the nordic countries, Norway, Sweeden,Finland are wonderful places for our animals…

  42. Jennifer Cassill says:

Candy does look like she has made some progress in her healing but still has a long way to go. I am thinking and praying for her everyday. I know Viktor and his team will continue to do everything possible to make her well again. Did you ever find out what the holes are in her face or what caused them? Please continue to keep everyone updated on Candy’s recovery. I know there a lot of people rooting for her. I wish I could donate but I don’t have the money right now plus I am worried the money would not go where it needs to.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Thank you Jennifer. No.. we don´t know what has caused it, so far her evolution is positive though.
Your comment about being worried where the money goes is unfair to me. I personally oversee our entire rescue operation and I assure you from the moment they are under our wing, our animals are in need of nothing… and that is where your donation would go.
      Best

  43. Karmen Sarioğlu says:

    Hi Viktor,
donated for Candy. All angles are with her, I know, that you all will do their best, for her.
    Thank you, Karmen

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks Karmen… I really hope we can do this… evolution is favourable so far..
This week will be crucial I feel..

  44. I live in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada. I have been following your tremendous and wonderful post for a long time now and you, Viktor and your amazing Team never cease to amaze me!!! I could hardly watch Candy’s video through my tears….to me, it looks likse some fricken monster burned her with a lighted cigarette. I pray that this little girl is able to recover from her torture…with the careful and nuturing hards of your Vet assistants /Vet have done a wonderful job irrigating her sweet little face and neck….she must be in such pain….It makes me worry about how many animals this person/peoople have done this torture to more animals…….I

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks for your words Beryl…
We still don´t know what happened there but healing continues… let´s see what this week brings..
      Our love to Saskatoon! …
      Viktor

  45. Thank you for all you do for these animals. Out of curiosity. .. does the adopter need to live in a certain area?

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Hi Andrea.. no… we adopt internationally.. if it is logistically possible to send the animal there we do…

  46. Jean Stewart, Scotland says:

Bless her……if she’s eating, that’s a good sign……it looks like she’s a fighter and has got the will to survive. Thank you Viktor & team…..if anyone can save this poor soul, it’s you guys. Donated x

  47. Donna Mclintock says:

  50. Craig R. H. Laurent says:

Please be sure that she gets subcutaneous fluids on a regular basis in addition to everything else that is done.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      We are Craig, we are..

  51. melissa gruenhagen says:

God bless you, all of you for helping poor, poor Candy! I’m so glad she is in your loving hands!

  52. This is horrible. It looks like shots from a pellet gun. Give her some colloidal silver to improve her immune system, it can also be given on the wounds. One of my cats had been bitten by another cat and the wound was very infected despite the medicines. After the treatment with coll. silver the wounds were healing within 4 days. It can do no harm. I use it for myself, the whole family and our 9 cats. I even treated a severely burned cat with it and she was recovering very quick. Please give it a try. And thank you so much for what you are doing.

  53. Mary OGiltinan says:

Hi Victor,I will forward a donation tomorrow afternoon. Please keep me updated on her condition. I would be interested in adopting her once Candy has made her recovery.Thank you.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Many thanks Mary… Ill keep you posted… her treatment continues…

  54. This tore my heart out!! I can’t believe anyone could see a kitty in this shape and not take it to a Vet! I’m praying for Candy to heal fast and not remember what happened to her. I just sent a donation through PayPal for her, please let me know when you get it! God bless you for helping her!!

  55. Gary Simpson says:

Monthly donation on its way Viktor and the team………….. as always, I feel Blessed you are here doing what you do 🙂

    Gary xx

  56. sarah pratley says:

It’s heartbreaking to see how weak she looks. If anyone can save her then LAG can. God Bless you Viktor, for everything you do for these animals. I pray the biopsy shows nothing sinister and she recovers.

  57. Dimi Tzounakos says:

Thank you Viktor for the update regarding Candy’s biopsy. Every time I close me eyes, I see hers. That deep green eyed look she has, is going to stay in me for a long time -if not for ever-. Her eyes speak plenty and not all of it is easy to hear.
Her mouth is the other thing that strikes me, i mean how has she been able to eat or drink and why is the way it is. She has to win this one, she must live. So thanks again for taking care of her, to you and your med team.
My best – Dimi ( let us know the results plz )

  58. Hi Viktor,
I pray whole heartedly for Candy’s speedy recovery. May the Blood of Jesus sustain her too and make her well again.
God bless all of you and your entire team along with the vets and may the hope she sees in you’ll for her complete recovery come true soon.
Have donated and will share this post on my facebook page.
    Best regards,
    Augusta

  59. My heart breaks for this poor kitty. Watching her biopsy video made me cry so much for the pain she has to bear. It is so unfair for any innocent animal to have to bear pain and torture like she has. Thank you for the updates on her. I have donated to her care and will continue to check for updates on her progress. I have to agree with Susanne about trying colloidal silver. It is the MOST amazing stuff. My entire family uses it religously for everything. When my Dad injured his leg and came down with a flesh eating bacteria in it, the doctors tried so many antibiotics that were not working. It was colloidal silver that healed it and saved his leg. After two months of it getting worse on the antibiotics, CS began healing it within days. Please give it to her with a dropper every few hours and use it on her wounds. I promise you will begin to see her wounds heal.

  60. KEEP UP YOUR GREAT WORK!!

  61. Donated. I can never ignore the plight of a sentient being in need. Bless that cat.

  62. Gail Burkett says:

It is nice to see her handled so gently. She does look a bit better. She’s clean, warm, safe, has good nourishment. All those things MUST help her little body fight. You fight the good fight Vic!

  63. Viktor,
Three cheers for you, your staff, your clinic and those that called you to make you aware of this tragic little kitty. She’s almost questioning with her eyes, ‘can you really help me?’! ok little Candy, yes he can!!! Thanks so much for what you do and for not writing any of your rescues off as ‘too much work’. Salute! donation via paypal in memory of my rescue kitties. Since my house is empty from cats, this one is certainly tugging me to adopt. this one and little bambino! I’ll send you an email.
    thanks again.
    -k

  64. Not a day goes by i don’t think about her. She had been thru so much and i wish with all my heart that she can pull thru for a second chance. I wish for a place she can call her own…a place filled with nothing but love. Stay strong baby. It will only be better from now.

  65. Anonymous says:

YOU DO GREAT WORK I DONT DOUBT THAT FOR ONE MIN. BUT IF THAT WERE MY BABY I WOULD ASK THAT YOU HELP HER TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRIDGE SHE HAS SUFFERED SO VERY MUCH ALREADY I COULD NOT TOLERATE SEEING ANYMORE SUFFERING.
SHE HAS NOT CLOSED HER EYES EVEN ONCE YET OR HER MOUTH SHE JUMPS WHEN YOU POUR THE SOLUTION OVER HER HEAD IT STARTLES HER …SHE IS SO SKINNY… I KNOW SHE IS IN EXTREME PAIN …JUST SAYING IF ONLY IF …IT WERE MY BABY….I WOULD SAY PLEASE LET HER GO IN PEASE. THANKS FOR ALL YOU ARE DOING FOR HER AND I AM PRAYING FOR HER TO PULL THRU.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

She hasn´t closed the eyes because she was sedated…
Taking this decision is not so easy… before something like this we must have all medical facts on the table.. and then.. then think about it again.
No pain.. it´s called pain management and antibiotics. She´s feeling the best she´s felt in a very long time..

  66. We have donated, we made ourselves watch the video – to see the care, the utmost care Candy is getting. The fact she is still here means she is fighting. Thanks to you – I really hope to see, one day, a video of one small but lovely cat walk again, and love again, and eat on her own again, and know the whole world is NOT a band place. Some of us care.

  67. Christina Anderson says:

Viktor, you and your team are wonderful humans. God bless you all. I live on a fixed income and have six cats that are all spayed/neutered and loved and fat. I “rent” from my cats. I will be checking on Candy to see her progress. It is not her time apparently to cross the Bridge. I pray for her and you every day and I will try to send a donation as soon as I get my pay check. Please keep us all updated on this precious girl. i agree, colloidal silver might be a good thing to get into her system to help her fight the infection. So very glad she was found and brought to you. You are an angel!

  68. RAHMAH BTE MOHD ARIS says:

  70. Her eyes are beautiful. The third video….her eyes are beautiful, and I could see she is searching the faces of her caregivers. That tiny mew at the end…this little girl is a fighter.

  71. Any updates about Candy’s condition ? What are the results of the biopsy ?
I am sending all my love and positive energy for the sweetheart <3

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

Dear Irene, we should be having some results soon.. I will update as soon as I have them…

  72. I have seen this injury before, it comes when a cat gets their head stuck into a can, the sharp edges where the top of the can was pulled off cut up the side of the face, it gets infected, and then bugs come and make it worse. I hope she gets well.

  73. Dimi Tzounakos says:

    Good Evening Viktor,

please please, I know Candy has ( you ) the reults of her biopsy, ( you wrote it’s not cancer – thank God-. BUT, we need an update. it’s been too long with no news…. I told you that Candy has stolen my heart, if only money was not an issue.
So, closing again I beg you, spare some recent photos, medical news and what the prognosis is.

    Please-please ….

    Dimi

  74. I pray Karma comes back on those that left this baby like this, I pray they get back 10 fold. thank y’all so much for trying to save Candy. Sleep sweet baby Candy you’ve earned your Angel wings, My Tillie Mochiea will meet you at the Bridge.

  75. thank you for the update. You tried so hard but it was not to be. thank you for giving her love and kindness at the end. x

  76. I am in tears, so upset about Candy. Rest In Peace beautiful girl and thank you for all you tried to do for her. At least she didn’t die in pain on the streets. God bless you.

  77. Pamela Ortet says:

Poor baby girl. I am heartsick, realizing how horrible her suffering must have been before you found her. She plays happily now over the Rainbow. Thank you and all your Team Candy, for the love and perseverance you showed, trying to save this little girl, who fought so hard to live. I admire her strength. An amazing kitty. RIP Candy.

  78. Making another contribution today that–sadly–can no longer help our dear Candy, but which may help other fighters that we and LAG will meet in coming months.

  79. Tanzina Hauqe says:

Feeling so sorry for poor candy but if her life had to end i am glad that it ended not with terror and sickness but with love and compassion . No living being should suffer as long as humanity exists . Thank you guys for looking after candy and doing what should be and could be done within limits the rest is in Gods hand . And i just wanted to say that ‘keep up the good work” the world needs more people like you

  80. MC Schultz says:

BREAKS MY HEART……but it was the right thing to do, if she could not get well. She is no longer in pain, and actually got to know REAL LOVE….even if only for a short time. God’s blessings on all of you for that which you do.

  81. Anne-Marie says:

I am so so upset about Candy, I can barely type thru the tears. I really wanted a happy ending for her after being subjected to such misery. RIP Candy girl. Xx

  82. My heart is broken 🙁

  83. I am devastated …rest in peace little angel. You are now in a better world..
Bless you all for everything you did for her .

  84. Richard Natoli-Rombach says:

So sorry. There are some nasty pathogens that can exist in a cat’s mouth and bit wounds can have a virulent outcome. I was in hospital for three days as a result. If not for the intervention of IV antibiotics I might not be writing this. Candy had an insurmountable challenge but she had love and comfort in the end which would have been unimaginable without you.

  85. You saved her from a horrible death by starvation. Euthanasia is hard but we must think of the animal first. Bless you for helping her across the bridge.

  86. Anonymous says:

  100. Carol Allaire says:

I sit here with a Heavy Heart, seeing what Candy had to go thru..I know when God says it’s enough to suffer like that, I am ready to call her home..I know in my Heart that you ALWAYS do your best to help all in need, but sometimes it’s not our fault nor theirs, God is the only one to say STOP..I am always ready your emails, and I go to the screen to see and read all about the Animals..I help to help get donations to furnish the things that are needed..I know just by all you did, it’s what is done that matters..Now Candy is safe with God, she has crossed to the other side, and the Lord will be there to take good care of her now..She has a lot of friends there, and they always WELCOME those who come in, and they are made whole again, with no more suffering, being just like the Babies they were born to be… Animals do no wrong, so they don’t have to be scared of being treated with no respect..They will always be God’s children, and have the BEST :IFE from now on..R.I.P my Little Candy, and if you can, Say Hi from Mommy to My Animals that have left this World.. Love Ya,,xxxx

  101. Poor little baby girl. At least at the end she did not die alone on the street. And she knew care, food, medicine, hydration, warmth & a blanket, and loving touches. RIP sweet girl.

  102. Christine Braun says:

Oh this just breaks my heart. I was hoping against hope to see a “look at Candy now!” type of post. Thank you for loving her and giving her a dignified end. Poor baby would have died a horrible death on the street alone. God bless you for all you do. I would not have the strength to do what you do day in and day out. May God bless you, everyone at LAG and all the animals under your care. I know I’ll see Candy in Heaven, with all the other wonderful creatures we’ve loved and lost!

  103. This so breaks my heart. Poor baby. Thank you so much for trying to save her.

  104. baileypcook says:

Thank you everyone who fought for this baby. This just BREAKS MY HEART but I’m sooo glad she was being taken care of and loved right to the end. I know everyone did ALL they could for this baby. God put the right people in her path to call her Home to Heaven in the most compassionate and humane way on earth. People, EVERYWHERE, please don’t turn your back on the animals you see in the street. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do what you can to help. Even if that means taking them and putting them out of their pain and misery. Granted this baby was most likely feral but she still could have been trapped when someone saw her weeks or even months ago not long after this happened and she could have been saved. But God wanted her home…and that’s okay. My heart breaks for all she went thru prior to her passing but thank you for doing what you could to help her. God sees this and He takes care of those who take care of the least of His.

  105. Susan Trout says:

Thank you so much for your compassionate an caring efforts to save these horribly neglected and suffering animals. The story of Candy is more painful than I can put into words. The fact that you made an effort, no matter how the odds were stacked against her, impresses me and gives me hope for humanity. That sweet, suffering soul was able to experience the best of humankind, no matter how brief. God richly bless you for your tireless work. I am on such a limited income at the moment, but as soon as I can see my way clear, I will send a small donation. You are Angels.

  106. Nancy Shufeldt says:

  107. That is so sad and heartbreaking, I too was hoping to see her on the mend, but God bless you for what you did for her, it would have been a long slow lonely and painful death if you had not intervened. I have shared on Facebook and Twitter.

  108. sean guffey says:

  109. Thank you for all the wonderful work you do in rescuing animals. Bless Candy’s soul, may she rest easy knowing she was much loved in the end.

  110. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!! You tried your best to save little Candy and that is all God Himself would ask. I have cried a million tears
over this little cat. I generally avoid watching videos where cats, especially, are suffering because I cry so badly. I was so
hoping and praying that Candy would pull through!! She is at peace now. Hopefully with God in Heaven. Keep up the good
work! I wish you all the peace and blessings of Christ.

  111. I am so saddened by this story, I stumbled upon it tonight on youtube…. I cried with a very heavy heart watching you try so hard to save one of gods creatures. I am an enormous animal lover and respectful of all veterinarians… I will be thinking of all of you and especially Candy when I thank God tonight for giving me the chance to rescue my beautiful cat Gabby from abusive owners and for giving her to me 8 years ago… Thank you for sharing this beautiful yet sad story. I respect all of you and fell in love with candy watching her struggle, my heart is heavy tonight.

  112. Merci pour ce que vous avez fait.
Repose en paix dans un monde meilleur petite Candy :'(

  116. Thank you all for trying. At least for a short time Candy knew what real love was. You are all wonderful people. Again Thank you for trying.

  117. Grace Fisher says:

I feel so sorry for candy because of all the horrible things she has gone through. There is some crazy people who don’t care about anything else but them selves. 🙁 🙁

  118. These animals are nicer than most of the people I know. Candy deserves to be health. She y and playing again in heaven. She had been through enough. For people who abuse animals of any kind Ii am grateful I am not there and see it and happen to have an M-16 rifle with me. I would be afraid of what I might do. I have no doubt that they will receive their just rewards from God. They deserve for the same to be done to them as they did to the animal.
That little cat impacted so many people and thank you to the many people who tried to hard to save her, but she is happier now. Go with God Candy.

  119. Omg-so much pain….I cry about….its so sad….I wished,I could read,she would alive.Im so sorry-Candy.I hope,now you live on without pain.R.I.P.❤
