I couldn´t believe that picture… the cat was terrified, his hip was shattered, he was being kept on a wire cage in a garden of the Middle East.

The email was heartbreaking and pleading. Every vet had told the rescuer the cat needed to be euthanized. His eyes told us a different story.

Right there and then I took a decision. Against everyone´s advice I would fly to Jordan and rescue that kitty. There was something very special about him. The fear in his eyes didn´t hide his desperate need to connect… and we had connected.

And so I flew, and rescued him, together, we negotiated walls of bureaucracy and the screaming voices of those telling us that it wasn´t worthy.

Diego was operated upon arrival, his fractures were fixed, pain disappeared but the fear remained. It took me weeks of delicate approaches, measuring our distances and getting to know each other. Learning to trust.

It broke my heart to look at his eyes and still see panic, but deep inside I knew the day would come when Diego would once again be at peace, and look at the world without fear.

And then, an email. A beautiful person had been moved by his plea and was opening her home to him. That offer came from a pure soul, and then I knew: Diego had found his family.

Allow me to show you where Diego is going to live. From the dirty and dusty streets of Amman Diego will live in a beautiful apartment in one of the most advanced countries in the world, Switzerland.  He will also have a lady friend … her name is Pong 🙂

His bed is ready. His family is eagerly waiting for him. For the first time in his life he is going to have a scratching post. Soon the stones and sticks will be nothing but a distant memory. The speeding traffic, the steel that breaks bones. Nothing else… just peace.

This post is both the end and the beginning of a beautiful story… the rescue of Diego, the desert cat that refused to die …

I have followed Diego´s story from day one. I donated to your trip to Jordan, I followed and awaited his updates daily. I am honoured to have been part of this rescue, and now let us give Diego a final push on his journey home. You can count on $25 from me and my daughter.
All the best to little Diego.

I was touched by the picture of the home with all the things a cat needs. Any person who would go to that extent to make a home for a cat so that they will feel safe and loved deserves to now GET Diego and enjoy the rest of his journey with him. Donating and honored to be a part of this story with a happy ending. We need more of them.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

  3. I had wondered how little Diego was getting on and I am so pleased that he has a furever home. Looking forward to more pictures of him with his new lady friend. It looks like he still has some way to go before he puts his hard life behind him and learns to trust. Sent a small donation to help him on his way.
