Is this the end of Let’s Adopt Global?
This is the most important blog I have ever written and this time it’s not about one animal. It’s about you, and about me, about our animals, about Luna, about Axel, about Monty, about all of us. This is me, Viktor, talking to you in exactly the same way I would do if you were sitting in front of me. I’m going to describe to you a nightmare turned true, but please read on.
As you may have noticed the Let’s Adopt! Global page on Facebook and its close to 99.000 people does no longer exist. On Friday, after a malicious coordinated action, our page was taken down by Facebook. Here is a screenshot of the disgusting gloating dialogue between the people that seemingly orchestrated this outrage.
You have been with us long enough to know that behind the wall of Let’s Adopt Global there is war going on. A war not only against the ravages man causes on animals, but against the very same things that makes us, as a species, a virus threatening to destroy the world, and ourselves. We wanted Let’s Adopt Global to represent everything that is good in this world. To be a beacon of hope both for animals and humans. To be a force that inspired, that moved, that made people jump to action in defense of those that truly needed it most. And we have done this day after day for years, unabated, undeterred, because we know full well who we are as a community and the principles that cement us. We are human and have flaws, but we are good people doing good work.
But every Yin has its Yang. There can be no Good without Evil, and even if most of the time the world is made up of infinite shades of grey, there are other times when things are Black and White.
This is one of those cases.
The people that have orchestrated this outage are the same ones that will soon be sitting in a bench in front of a Massachusetts judge as defendants in a landmark suit against defamation. Most of them have been served. Others, like the administrator of the Good the Bad and the Ugly of Animal Rescue, are evading process by hiding behind fake names, at times hiding their criminal past and convictions; others, are simply hiding behind shut windows, cowardly evading the court officer while living in fear of their INEVITABLE appointment with justice. In the meantime, those frightened individuals are doing the best they can to hurt us…AND our animals.
Without our Facebook Page those disgusting people have inflicted a mortal wound to our animals. Right now we have about 50 dogs and cats (and a rabbit) in our care around the world. Some are in costly rehabilitation facilities receiving the specialized care so that they can have the highest quality of life possible once they leave us; others are in foster care with all the expenses paid, like ongoing medical care, food, everything; and others are at boarding facilities awaiting transport to their final home. We have quite a few animal in clinics, some currently in Intensive Care, others in recovery with 24 hour supervision; and we have others in addition to the 50, many of them, being rescued by much smaller organizations around the world whose expenses are being covered by us. If you are a member of one of those organizations, you know who you are.
You know some of them – Luna, Bugs Bunny, Judy, Charlie — but you don’t know all… the vast majority of them are animals that are receiving the same world class treatment as everyone else but were not featured in our page. They are all at risk now.
I cannot think of a most asinine and cynical action than cutting the lifeline of our animals by maliciously closing our only source of financing — the donations from our members. But that’s what those people have done. That is what they set out to do. Everything they’ve done had this as the goal. And now this is something else they will be answerable in a court of law.
I give you my word. Those people will pay. Big.
Our funding was designed to be used up as contributions came in with donations immediately spent on medical treatments and rehabilitative care, on transport expenses, on foster support. We do not hoard money, we do not move it to investments like the Humane Society, and this so by design. As of today we only have funds necessary to continue operating for another week.
We have no time to lament though… If you are reading this is because you are, or have been, a donor, or you may be one of our foster, adoptants, a close friend.
Being challenged in life is inevitable. Being defeated is optional. If you don’t believe it, ask Axel…
Today we have a choice. We may kneel, close down and retreat to lick our wounds or we may stand up tall, undefeated and continue moving forward.
I know what I’m doing may feel like placing a big responsibility on your shoulders. And that’s precisely what it is. Today I’m laying at your hands the future of our organization and our animals.
Our rehoming team is working overtime to send home our animals in boarding and foster homes. Our vets continue doing the incredible work for what Let’s Adopt! is world renown. Our animals are busy wagging their tales.
And you … I need to ask for your trust. Your trust in me as the founder of LAG, the organization you love, your trust in our founding principles and our moral compass, and your trust in knowing that LAG will continue doing what is right, against all odds, for many years to come. Because a world without LAG would be a world without Hope.
Here is a video of Judy, fighting to regain her health and mobility… fighting thanks to the support of the Let’s Adopt Global members. This is what those people are trying to destroy. Today Judy represents all of us.
We only have reserve funds to last a week. Today I need you to commit, to donate to keep LAG alive, for us, and for animals you hold in your lap. Today I need you to make an extraordinary effort, DONATE TO SAVE LAG, spread the word by sharing our blog, and above all, even if you can’t contribute today, to keep that warm place in your heart for us, keep the hope alive, because although today we may be struggling, I promise you, we are not going anywhere.
For the animals.
P.S. This used to be our Page. It had 98,630 people. It took us four years to assamble this magnificent and powerful assembly. It’s been destroyed now: Let’s Adopt! Global
