UPDATE JULY 20

The operation was a total success…

The stitches healed very well and without infection. Arnie’s eyelids do not roll inwards any longer. His cornea won’t suffer further damage. His vision has been secured.

Here I am including a few more pictures of the actual procedure as well as of his condition as of today. The pictures are graphic, but the end is worthwhile..

In order to ensure the weight of the skin’s folds wouldn’t aggravate the problem after surgery a large area of skin of the back of the neck had to be taken out.

This is the extra skin that was removed as part of this operation. This removal will ensure Arnie won’t have problems with his eyes any longer.

Stiches removed, no infection, all clear!!!

This is an emergency…

I’m typing from our clinic where I have come to be present during Arnie’s operation.
Arnie was rescued three weeks ago when he was about to be killed by Animal Control. It was literally, rescued in the very last minute.
Arnie is being operated this morning from a condition that, when it affects Sharpeis is specially grave, entropion, the inward rolling of his eyelids (see video)…

Have you ever had an eyelid or sand rubbing inside your eye? Well.. imagine this situation carrying on during most of your life, your eye constantly scratched and itching, with time the cornea becomes hardened and opaque, and it leads to partial or total blindness.
Today we are fixing that.
The operation is complicated by two further factors:
1. Because of the excess of skin the procedure cannot be performed just in the eyes, in a couple of weeks the weight of the skin would make the condition even worst.

2. We are having to proceed to a full craneal lift, cut a massive portion of skin from the back of his head and lift the entire skin of the head. This is the only way Arnie will be able to have a good quality of life…

If we don’t do this NOW, Arnie will be soon blind.

Due to the complication of the operation we can’t do this without your help, it’s an emergency. This is why this Chipin will only run for 48 hours. It just can’t wait. Please, if you can, please Chipin on Arnie’s surgery Chipin. Without us (and that includes you), Arnie will end up totally blind.
