This is an urgent message to our members in Istanbul but it very well applies to our entire international community.
As you may remember, last week 12 cats and kitties were abandoned in our clinic by an “animal lover’.
Over the following days we found foster homes for 5 but we have 7 left.
Two of them are blind, one has three legs.
We have to move them onto foster homes TODAY.
Now… let me be painfully honest here. Many of you consider yourselves “animal lovers”, you proudly identify yourselves as such, you tell your friends you like animals, share puppy and kitty videos on your FB pages, and melt, literally melt with expressions like “offff…. caniiiim and yaaaaa” every time you see a pic of a kitty or a puppy. Some of you go as far as calling yourselves “animal rescuers”.
But… are you?
Facebook has created a new social group, the “imaginary rescuer”, and nowhere is this more evident that amongst our Turkish community.
Every morning, without fail, tens of thousands of people in Turkey visit our Facebook Page and others. They usually browse around the latest post, click on a couple of likes and leave a few “offs.. yaaaas and similar expressions here and there”.. and then, after having charged their “animal rescue energy” they look away and move onto something else, onto another silly game, another video or equally stupid application.
Facebook and social media are an incredible  tool to achieve things beyond the reach of a single person, but, used in the wrong way, it’s also the biggest waste of time, giving people the feeling of “having done something” when in reality nothing has been done.
Animal rescue is not a Facebook Game. This is no PussyVille.
Animal rescue is a sacred mission that requires much more than a few clicks.
Animal rescue requires you to step out of your comfort zone, into the real world, to accept responsibility for a living being that is not yours, in exchange for nothing. Nothing other than the satisfaction of knowing you are contributing to ensure its future.
It’s either that, or do nothing, and continue clicking away your life thinking you are actually achieving anything.
If you are in Istanbul today, we need you to step out of your comfort zone, and to truly become an animal rescuer. Today is your chance to finally earn your wings as a live savior.
We have a number of kittens and cats that need fostering. I need you to contact me, offer to become a foster home, helps us save their lives.
