The man you see here is Ismail Ay, one of the veterinarians at Kadir Topbas, Hasdal shelter.
Ismail is seen here tending the makeshift garden at the back of the shelter immediately before starting a round of neutering operations. No changing to clean clothes, no changing to new surgical gloves…no hygiene of any kind.
The mortality rate is far beyond anything anyone could even imagine. Not even the worst projections are anywhere near to real figures. Those guys were running a death camp in Hasdal.
This morning we will have a meeting with the Municipality to work on new procedures for Neuter and Return in Istanbul.

And it’s obvious that they make money out of farming not veterinary. They don’t do their job, they farm for Topbaş. Hasdal has 50 farmers, few voluntaries (some of them kicked) and dying animals. what a wonderful world…

I sincerely hopes he (like the others who have done the same) loses his job over this. Perhaps a more miserable life will make him understand what he did to other innocent souls. I hope the dogs in the conditions we’ve seen have been taken away from the shelter or , checked, fed and cared for right there. I have never, ever, in my life seen such horrors and I have seen quite a number of horrible things ever since I know myself. I just don’t understand how you can see a living creature and treat it like a rock! It’s sickening!

Wishing you the best of luck for the meeting. In light of all the publicity I feel that the municipality will have no option but to make changes. The best thing you did was to make this so public in a country that makes money from tourism. Hitting people in the pocket works wonders. However this is not a good reason to change the situation at the shelter!!! It should be changed on the grounds of humanity and the shame of the so called surgeons that have performed operations in such filth and squalor. Are these “surgeons” properly qualified? If so where did they get their qualifications? Apart from the local potato farm!

Do all the vets that work at the Hasdal shelter care so little about what they do and i’m not talking about their gardening exploits? Is there not some kind of oath that all vets take and arent they responsible to uphold the oath? Or do the oaths mean so little once the person is qualified? Everything about the way Kadir Topbaş is run just stinks of “toxic work environment”. Clearly these vets have abandoned all pretence at professionalism and forgotten their ethical duty to the animals in their care. Someone at the top of the tree is responsible for setting this kind of cultural climate where abuse, cruelty and neglect thrive. This kind of malignancy in a working environment spreads like a virus. I hope Let’s Adopt can get through to these people and are successful in persuading those in power that the place needs a shake up from top to bottom.

I think this ‘vet’ should stick to gardening instead of operating on animals…….vegetables have a better chance of surviving than the poor dogs he ‘tends’……He obviously lacks the basic skills of hygiene. Why do the become vets if they hate animals so much…these dogs deserve the very best care, bless their little innocent hearts.

Researching your track record on these issues, it seems that I was probably too generous in giving you any benefit, much less that of doubt, as there can be no doubt — your actions are self-serving, and people usually have a tendency to can those who operate in such fashion.
Your time is coming. You can choose to shine or you can choose to entrench yourself in what will prove to be a fight that you really don’t want to be made more public than it already is.
