Alaska, 2010, in a remote land that serves as the last refuge of wildlife, Sarah Palin,  a politician fast on her way to become the most despised person on the planet, kills a reindeer on camera whilst jiggling and cracking jokes of pioneering women conquering the West. The killing, proudly displayed on the Learning Channel (!!!) outrages millions and prompts a unanimous reaction of condemnation.

At the same time… in the other side of the world, in Istanbul, Turkey, the cradle of civilizations, fastest growing economy in Europe, a mother returns home after spending the entire day trying to find something to eat.

Just a few meters away her 10 puppies yelp. They are too many for the tired dried-up breasts of the mother.
A sudden thunder breaks the silence of the forest, she falls. Adrenaline flows through her body like a burning river.

She stands up, tries to run away only to receive a second impact, this time in the neck.

The hunter walks away home leaving the mother gasping for air in the bushes, still alive. Upon arriving home he kisses his children screams at his wife for not having dinner ready yet and switches on Turkish National Television.

İn the forest, the mother bleeds to death.

It takes longer for the puppies to die, but soon enough the lack of food and liquid kills each and everyone of them.

And so it ends one more day in Istanbul. Turkey, 2010 European Capital of Culture. A city where we shoot dogs in the forest for fun.

Our nation. Our city. Our home.

  1. I am embarrassed that the word “humanity” has nothing to do with the things some humans do. Poor girl, and poor babies. What did they ever do to deserve this?

  2. My heart is bleeding…. for all these innocent animals mankind abuses… but they are so much better than we! They deserve much more than we do!

  3. Arzu Adakan says:

    Crying…
    What happened to the babies?

  4. Helen King says:

    Barstewards. WHY? WHY? WHY?

  5. Thank God Lets Adopt, is taking action, I did not know this was going on there!! God Bless your souls!!

  6. – they died, of cause…..some humans are so heartless……omg……. poor thing….

  7. jackie palfreman says:

may the evil thing that did this be cursed with the most horrible bad luck all there miserable life, im never going to turkey on holiday again, BASTARDS

  8. EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF KULTURE like ISTANBUL cannot permit such CRUELTIES and
    also the great turkish nation.

  9. Jac McNeiley says:

What can be done against the treatment of these innocent animals? It would be more humane to euthanize them after spaying and neutering rather than to send them into the forests to be hunted, straved or hit by vehicles. Those that are not spayed/neutured will continue having pups and the horrendous abuse will never cease. There should be stricter laws to govern aimal welfare policies and the practice of aftercare received from veternarians that provide assistance out there in the wild. Any hunter or ill act inflicted purposely on these animals should be dealt with legally…prison time and high penalty fees. This should not occur and the shunning of dogs out in the forests is as evil as evil does. Unreal..no excuses. Jackie McNeiley

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

One evil doesn’t justify the other …

  10. Vigdis Lethun says:

How come the ‘cradles of civilization’ like Turkey and Greece have ended up SO far from any civility towards our fellow creatures?? I wonder…

  11. just another senceless act of cruelty towards defenceless animals, some people seem to need to torture and kill those who cant defend themselves in order to feel tough or “like a man”…in reality they are just the opposite, it doesnt take any courage to abuse the weakest of us all, those who have no defence against man and certainly against a gun, this is the most cowardly of all acts, but if you believe in karma, and i do, these people will get thier just deserts, what goes around comes around and i truly believe those who do evil will suffer evil…

  12. Raciel Fernandez says:

As painful as that was to read/see we must all bear witness and never, never turn away to the horrors of humankind. Let’s Adopt is a spark of light in the middle of all this terror. As Ghandi said (I’m paraphrasing), we must help the most vulnerable creatures among us in order to save ourselves.

  13. mathy merbis osh says:

heartbreaking, poor mom and poor babies, they didn’t do anything to anybody, Why must people hurt animals, wish I was never born, because I don’t want to live in this world, tears…. RIP sweeties…

  14. lynda chabane says:

I am shocked and confused!!!! WHO gave her the lethal dose?????,… Why is there so much blood on her neck?????….. If this was filmed on camera WHY were the pups not taken away and hand-nursed????
Im so sick of the atrocities to animals in Turkey, why the hell wont the authorities listen to the pleas of thousands of animal supporters worldwide who are fighting against these barbaric murders of innocents in Turkey, will they ever admit defeat and instead start putting things right????
RIP Mama…..no more pain or hardship when you get to the Bridge sweetheart :((((

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      No lethal dose of anything.
It was a hunters gun. Same used to hunt rabbits and others.

  15. I DIDNT READ IT, TELL ME THAT IS NOT TRUE, PLEASE
I WANT TO BE AN ANIMAL, I AM TOO ANNOYED OF BEING HUMAN
SAY ME THAT MONSTER IS ARRESTED, PLEASE!!

  16. Harold Highland says:

This human behavior happens all over the world. It will continue until the human race is extinct.

  17. Susanné Lindström says:

I am ashamed also to be human. An eye for eye, tooth for tooth, that idiot would be killed.
NEVER more I go to Turkey.

  18. dawn dixon says:

why the hell is this happening, these monsters need bringing to justice, the horror these poor babies have to endure breaks my heart i implore everybody to lobby the turkish government to stop the horrific way these dogs are suffering, HELP THEM PLEASE DO SOMETHING.

  19. Let all beings have happiness and the causes of happiness. Let all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. Let all beings never be separated from that sacred joy which is free from suffering. Let all live in equanimity, free from attachment and hatred.

  20. ghislaine says:

I can’t stand these daily pictures anymore.
Ecrin a Turkish animal lover said a few weeks ago she wanted to put an end to her life because of these atrocities committed against animals. My first thought is always why did human beings want dogs, cats also as pets in the first place if they don’t want to take responsibility for them and prefer let them down, starving, ill, injured……bastards they are….second thought why with our big animal lovers community can’t we put enough pressure on governments to make these atrocities stop? Why can’t the murderers be punished? In civilized countries they get prosecuted, France is by far not perfect but there is a law protecting animals and people harming animals get prosecuted. I could never live in countries where strays are killed everyday under atrocious conditions with the approval of governments. It makes my heart bleed, my eyes tear, I’m so upset. the so-called “human” race should disappear and will be one day with all the bullshit it does, cheating with nature and the animal and vegetal reign will come back in a world when no human asshole will have it s place.

RIP little sweeties but my Friday is ruined since I can’t prevent people from doing that, I’m too aware of the atrocities.

I love my rescued dogs and cats but only people like us are affected!

  21. Aslihan Mertoglu says:

Both cases are crimes against humanity. Wildness exists not in animals, but in human nature. I wish all animals had conditions equal to human being, so they could defend themselves. Words are insufficient to express my feelings. I am so sad

  22. GODNESS!! NO NAME ! I FEEL SICK OF MY STOMACH! POOR! MOM* SO UNJUST! MAKE ME SO ANGER! THIS EVIL BASTARD! TO BE DAMNED! FOR THE ETERNITY! I OH! *GOD* TAKE CARE OF ALL THIS BABIES *ANGELS* MERCY<3*

  23. Lale Erguner says:

I am Turkish. I feel just as heartsick as the rest of you when I see something like this! This is inhuman, sadistic and sick. But if you think such things happen only in Turkey, or Greece, or everywhere else but where you live, think again. Have a good look at Sarah Palin as she shoots that beautiful stag, and listen to her brag. Take a closer look at hunting laws and regulations in ‘civilized’ countries such as the U.S.A. and the U.K. Then, and only then, come out and condemn Turkey, and dump all of us, including thousands who are trying to help, to change things, to save lives, into the same slime pit as the subhuman creatures who can only feel alive when they kill.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Lale,

I gave the example of Sarah Palin to show that stuff like this happens everywhere, still Let’s Adopt Global is based in Istanbul, Turkey and animal lovers here should be grateful we do what we do.
The vast majority of our rescues is saved from the streets and the forests of Istanbul.
Unlike other groups that simply act as posting boards for “so-called animal lovers” desperate to get rid of the animal they have just found we rescue, rehabilitate and rehome hundreds of animals a year.
Because of all of this we, better than anyone else, must be the ones pushing for change in this country and, much in the same way we applauded the thousands that rallied together in memory of a cat, we must be the ones that continue calling a spade a spade.
Two years ago I performed an autopsy on a dog that was shot on a hunting party. Back then it caused an uproar and we were accused of insulting the turkish nation. Sadly, those are facts of life here and this blog only reports on truth and factual events.
Don’t worry… Planning to move to Bora-Bora sometime next year… When this happens the focus of the group will change to the anima atrocities commited in that tropical island.
      Until then…

  24. Nur Aykurt says:

I believe in death penalty for these shallow criminals. we cant cotinue living with them and call it human rights. They should be put down.

  25. sharkey johnson says:

This story is beyond heartbreaking. I am so thankful for everyone who is working to make a difference, and will continiue to do as much as I can to help the many groups who cannot stand by and do nothing. Sadly, the human species is the biggest, AND ONLY, source of so much pain on this planet. We have such a long, long way to go. . Thank you, Viktor, for keeping these messages in the spotlight, so these atrocities cannot be denied or minimized.

  26. Gerard Kellett says:

Turkish bastards. Went there for 1 day while on holidays on the greek islands. Thought that it was the dirtiest most unsafe place that I ever set foot in. They care not for their fellow humans so its not a surprise that this is typical behaviour. I swore on that day that i would never set foot on turkish soil again. Things like this just serve to remind me that i have made the correct decision. Well done Vic in all you do.

    1. Viktor Larkhill says:

      Gerard,
Whilst an angry rejection is understandable you are crossing the line here. My family is turkish and so are over 50% of the readers of this blog.
Let’s Adopt! is pushing towards improving the treatment of animals in this country, and showing examples of what is wrong.
      That’s it.
I have been personally involved in many rescues of irish greyhounds and regardless of how horrific the plea of those animals was I never once considered insulting the nation of Ireland, which is exactly what you did with Turkey.
I hope you understand my point and trust you will never leave a similar comment in this blog.
      Best
